Kirk Barrett - "Sarajevo Roses"
It is a short-short, so it is a quick read. I'm sure he would appreciate you going over there. Also, you can find his LJ at
kirkesque and leave him a comment, if you feel so inclined.

Opening up?

There doesn't seem to be much interest for this community from the people it was originally created for-my classmates. I am thinking about opening up the community to other Columbia students, and use this as a platform to share our work. I'll leave this entry open and unprotected so you guys can all comment on it.

Hey there!
Is anybody actually interested in this community? I feel like I'm posting all by myself. You guys just let me know if this is not for you, then I will stop posting stuff that nobody reads.
I also decided, in a crazy twist of tempting fate, to try my hand at NaNoWriMo. Anyone else out there doing it? I'm excited, though I am not entirely sure if I can manage all that time to dedicate to writing when I am already swamped with homework and regular money-making work.

Yesterday, I had a talk with Jessie and Tracey, the organizers of the Creative Body Workshop. They do these every month or so. The goal is to connect to our bodies, and use the inspiration that comes from this connection to write.
I will be leading a workshop on Wednesday December 5th at from 10 to 12am. I will lead you through some ecstatic dancing.
The next creative body workshop will be lead by Michael McColly on Tuesday the 6th of November in 623 S. Wabash room 217 from 12:30 to 2:30pm. He will show yoga techniques.

Pardon my little rant

Recently, I was looking at Boulevard Magazine to submit works to. Supposedly, they publish major authors, and they have some great feedback on their first page. It would make you think they are a serious organization, and that it would be cool to be published in their mag. But then I looked at their sample works (http://www.richardburgin.net/boulevard/samples.html). Apparently, they don't even have a proofreader on staff. The first sentence of the first story doesn't make any sense in English. The rest is just barely intelligible, and not very original at all. Plus, it seems that it's all horror. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but why call yourself a literary journal, when you publish horror pulp?
I guess my point is that you might wanna take a close look at what a magazine typically publishes before you submit. Don't trust the hype, and aim high.
I hope to read some of your works soon!

I'll throw something up here soon, but right now, I'm off to UIC.
I'm so fucking stuck on the folk tale right now. I've got an introduction, which is basically me sitting with two of my friends, getting high, and i give one of them a drink when he starts to cough; we decide he owes me a story. I don't know what to make the story though, I want it to sort of fit my friend (5'6" almost mute when sober vietnamese kid with a rat-tail).
I actually like the intro so much that I want to keep the story in play and have each of the characters tell a folk tale and maybe interject throughout and interrupt one another, however, I need to write a goddamn folktale before I can do any of that. I'm thinking dark woods and tattoos. I've never written about tattoos for some reason.

Two memberships today, Heather and Brandon. Posting my writing is a little bit more involved than these silly updates, but at least I hope they show I care.
I hope some of you will start posting. As long as it doesn't involve delicious boobs! Gee, of all the things I wrote, she had to pick that one?

Just so that there is something here. I will post a story later in the day, I hope. As usual, I am crazy-busy, and I really hope that other people will grab the ball and run with it. Please show us some of your work. It will be fun!
