Fantastic game, ahead of it’s time. Rockstars 7th gen run is unbeatable. The facial capture technology used was and still extremely impressive. The fictional recreation of Los Angeles is authentic. The story is compelling if slightly undeveloped in some ways. Some cases are better than others, and the overarching narrative only really picks up in the last 1/4, but LA Noire is still exceptionally well written by video game standards. The detective gameplay is often great, with subtle audiovisual cues to let you feel like you’re solving the cases yourself even though the game is really walking you through it. I wish there were more fail states possible, but I understand they could only do so much as narratively the game has to progress. The game is very cutscene heavy even by Rockstar standards, but it doesn’t “play itself” like many artsy fartsy walking simulators. LA Noire is still very much a video game

Seriously, give me this over any PlayStation AAA single-player blockbuster from the past 8 years. Ghost of Tsushima & Stellar Blade put me to sleep, while I couldn’t put down this 15 year old game. This isn’t nostalgia talking either, I played for the first time in 2026.
