Many May Go on about Merton
Many may go about today being the 40th anniversary of Merton's death but far too few will mention that it is also the 67th anniversary of his arrival at Gethsemani. I'm just saying. Peace and prayers | | Thursday, July 24th, 2008 | 1:04 am [contemplatio] |
on so-called late vocations
I didn't have a late vocation. It was an on-time vocation. It just took 45 years. Fr. Garry Cappleman, O.P. Current Mood: reassured | | Friday, March 7th, 2008 | 7:20 pm [tonsison]

Greetings from a seminary first year student!
Hello everyone I am studying at a seminary as well, this is my first year, well, in fact, just my first couple of weeks, and well, so far I am loving it! I am a 28 year old female who left the Roman Catholic Church to pursue my vocation and want to become a pastor in a Lutheran Evangelical church. No offense meant to any RC's here, I still love the RCC very much, I just could not stay if I wanted to go on with my calling, but, I am glad to share with you in this community and wish you all, guys and girls of all the denominations, the very best in your life and in your vocational journeys! Sincerely your friend, GeekGirl4Jesus ps feel free to IM me or whatever, if you want, I welcome everyone to talk to me, I love talking! :-) Current Mood: bouncy | | Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 | 3:21 pm [cowgirlspaces]

Sermon Help
Help! I'm in the process of writing a sermon for my preaching class, and find myself struggling to even get started. I've read my Scripture (Genesis 1:26-27 and 1 Corinthians 12:22-27) and read the resources available from the United Methodist Website, and am still stuck. When I feel the urge to start, I break down crying. My sermon is on Disabilities, particularly for disability awareness Sunday. This topic is so near and dear to my heart, and I've welcomed the challenge of preaching on it, yet still find it hard to begin. Any suggestions? ideas? *Edit* It is going well. Thank you for all your comments. Blessings! | | Thursday, January 11th, 2007 | 1:09 am [ex_dingrod]

"God or the Girl?" and more
howdy, i'm a newby here. i'm a sophomore @ georgetown university in dc, and have been contemplating a consecrated life. i only just converted to Catholicism last year, so it may be a bit premature to really know if it's a call towards that life (specifcally priesthood), residual from that initial conversion, but then again, the question is still here, practically 9 months after i really started to consider it. so, it must be at least a worthwhile question. i've been interested in the Dominicans for a while, but really don't know too much about them or other religious orders (or for that matter, the life of the diocesan priest). a friend once suggested looking into the Fransiscans, too. now w/ all formalities aside, i have some questions that i'd like to ask: does anyone know if there will be reruns of "God or the Girl?"? i missed it... also, if you saw it, what did you think of the series?--did it address pertinent questions and to what extent? did it give an accurate portrayal? do you know of any websites that give a good general description of the charisms and the life of the many different religious orders? what kinds of questions (regarding your vocation, etc) do you deal with on a regular basis as a seminarian? what have you found? and the last question (for now), did any of you enter the seminary without a bachelor's (or the equivalent) in philosophy when it was required to enter into the particular program? how did you accomplish this, and is it possible to obtain such a thing without taking major time out from working? i am sorry for the detailed and many questions, and i hope you do not feel compelled to answer them all! thank you for taking the time, and i look forward to your responses! Today is the institution of the Second Theology guys to the Minor Order (Ministry blah blah blah) of Lector. We anticipate having two princes of the Church attend, Their Eminences The Most Reverend Justin Cardinal Rigali, and Anthony Cardinal Bevelaqua. We also Anticipate having the Ordinarys and Auxiliaries of Twenty Seven Canonical Sees, including the Eastern Provincials of the Order of Franciscans Minor Conventual, The Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (Mercedarians), and the Provincial of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians). The Nuncio has also said he plans to Attend. This is only a minor institution, however, we've got all these big guys here. It's exciting, I'm not going to lie. Not to mention countless priests, and in this Diocese (Philadelphia) every third priest is a monsignor. There is going to be so much red, scarlet and black here today I may not be able to contain myself. I think that we have 10 men who have been called to the Minor Order. Pray for them. Other than that, today is My patronal feast day, St. Charles Borromeo. And it's also the feast day of my school, fancy that! | | Monday, August 22nd, 2005 | 10:54 pm [cowgirlspaces]

christian camping
I'm planning a Christian camp for elementary kids in Northern Michigan and need some help. Anyone have any ideas for a theme? These kids are 3-5 graders primarily and most attend the UMC. I'd really appreciate any thoughts. Thanks! | | Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 | 12:08 pm [randmconstructs]

Greetings one and all,
This community is being established for those who desire to pray for
India, have a heart for India, who are Indian (living anywhere), are
missionaries in India, or just want to check out what God is doing in
that large region.
The purpose of this community will be cultural exchange between regions
of India (anything from Divali to Desi food recipes to
religious/cultural study to Bollywood), understanding, keeping up with
news and needs of India, and correspondences between all affiliated

New
Hi all! My name is Luke I'm 19 and discerning or in process of. I decided I want to become a priest or would like to see if I am being called. I have already met with the vocations directo of St. Elizabeth's in Tucson. Basically, I will be waiting a year. ugh!!!! a year!!! I am ubver impatient and I guess this will help increase patience. But anyway, me and four other guys will meet with him over the course of the year to get to know him better. This way he'll know who will go and who will not. He says I have a possibility of going to Mt. Angel Seminary in Oregon, anyone from there? All I ask is prayers from you. They would help a lot. Currently, I will be the new youth pastor in my youth group which I just started going. Father V. asked me to join and so I have! Please pray for me and I will for you God Bless All!!! | | Sunday, April 17th, 2005 | 4:59 am [contemplatio] |

an offtopic request for help with a class project
As many of your know I am completing a course in Conflict Management at Abilene Christian University this semester. One of the requirements is a research project. I'd like to ask you to complete this poll on Conflict Style: Section One: select a traditional (in-person) conflict to complete the first series of 13 questions (self-selected topic description included) Section Two: select a computer-mediated (on-line) conflict to complete the second series of 13 questions (self-selected topic description included) Your help is GREATLY appreciated! Confidentiality will be maintained for the topic identification/narrative questions (listed as optional), if you choose to answer them. Answering them will help me in examining the scope of the answers that I receive overall. Please make sure to answer all questions otherwise my numbers will get skewed ... and I'll get skewered. Of course, the questions are limited ... please choose the answer the most closely matches your personal "best answer". I'm using a pre-existing scale for this (I'm expanding on existing research). I'm happy to discuss other narratives or other possible answers either via comment/reply or via email to georgeniebling@yahoo.com :-) PLEASE x-post (or use a link) this to communities in which you are a member as a breadth of responses will provide a better sample for my project. In others words .... please ask your LJ friends to complete this poll! http://www.livejournal.com/users/gfn4/17877.html#cutid1 | | Tuesday, March 15th, 2005 | 5:55 pm [aramis307]

Any help on the following question would be great. Opinions are fine. Describe the relationships between Church, society, theology, morality, sin and grace. If you don't know specifics are technical terms, don't worry. Just give me your thoughts, if you have any. And for the record, no, I'm not cheating by soliciting help. |
