This is my fifth Christmas in Japan. 5 Christmases that I have spent away from home and away from family, friends and FOOD. Sure I've visited home but not during Christmas!!!! Sigh maybe next year. Meanwhile, I'll keep lurking on.

The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."
The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.
No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.
Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

Edited to add my own thoughts (not part of the original reddit call for action): And if you do not feel like taking a total break and perhaps want just a trial separation or couple's counseling, then perhaps consider Black March Lite 2.0 = spend, but spend money on those content creators and independent retailers who came out against SOPA/PIPA. And tell them why you're buying their products in March. There are many of them.
And for those who favor the more targeted boycott, you can find info here. But no matter which, you can participate and you can tailor your level of participation. We have the tools, the will and the strength to take a stand.

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.
Get on the phone and call your representative. Express your disapproval. Tell him or her exactly how you feel, and that you don't support this. Tell your friends to call their representatives, their Congressperson, and complain. Mention that you are a registered voter that takes your civic responsibility seriously and that you will use that vote to express your feelings about this.
“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.” The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.
Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.
I am completely surprised by how much sadness this makes me feel. I feel like a visionary has left us all bereft. I was never a Mac user. I prefer Windows, but when I was given an Ipod Touch my world expanded. The itunes store gave me such media control at my finger tips. The day the Ipad was inveiled my heart skipped a beat since there was the Star Trek Padd come to life and available to the wider world for consumption. I have been melded to my Ipod Touch for 3 years, and I planned to buy myself an Ipad soonish. When the Iphone 5 was revealed and the AI Siri was revealed we joked about Skynet being awakened. It saddens me greatly that Steve Jobs did not live to see this come to fruition.
Its amazing that a person has touched my life by virtue of me owning a piece of technology.

The reality of what has happened is still too hard to comprehend. The partial meltdown at Fukushima Unit 1, the millions of people without food and water, the rising death toll, the scenes of destruction, the acres of wasteland covered by debris and muddy water, its very apocalyptic and depressing. I sit here in my room and I just feel empty.
Well what can I say that hasn't been reported as yet? I live on the island of Shikoku. We are fine, but worried about friends and family who were in the Northern part of Japan. We haven't head from some of our fellow teachers and we are worried for their safety. I wish for everyone to keep the families of the deceased in your hearts and prayers. Japan is looking into the depths of a sure hell at the moment and I am right here with them.

This is a no-brainer question for me. I would watch Sci-Fi movies. I love Science Fiction and you can get a little bit of everything in that genre. YES a RESOUNDING YES!!!!!! I am perfectly happy to be child-free!!! I am uninhibited and free of all ties. Sometimes being single gets a little lonely but then I think about the nightmare of traveling with toddlers and I thank the stars that I have not fallen prey to that curse!!!

Do you tend to forgive and forget or hold grudges? What is the longest you've ever stayed angry with someone? Is there anything the other person could say or do to win back your friendship and trust?
I hold massive grudges! The longest one lasted two and a half years. I made that person invisible, to me she didn't exist and it helped to and extent...I spent those years in various stages of rage. Forgiveness is not my nature. If you wrong me then I will wish for ill on your head. To get back in my good graces, only heartfelt grovelling will work and after such a long time the only reason I was able to let go of the betrayal was because she broke first. I won. It took 2 1/2 years but I won.
Honestly? You want my honest answer? Well to be quite frank, I'd try to blow something up or maybe set something large on fire. A while ago I would have said that firstly I'd try to kill the people who have wronged me but where I am now has mellowed me out considerably......still, I'd try to blow some shit up.
I'm worried about failing at my new job. I have to impress my new employers and so that has me a bit stressed out. I want this position for the next 5 years after all.
