So, Raphi, I just want you to know, I blame you for this.

Right, so in the 1800s the Belmonts disappear (they come back) and a bunch of other people/organisations/related families have to get to vampire hunting because apparently the Belmonts were like, the only really good vampire hunters from 1094-1800s. Sure they had some help (the Belnades and Kisches for example), but mostly it was Belmonts. Then, suddenly, poof, they disappear and a bunch of other people have to take up the slack.

That is where Sephiran and Zelgius come in.

Zelgius was a pretty basic knight. He did knightly things, like fighting dragons and rescuing kidnapped damsels (it is Castlevania after all). Then one day he gets sent to a kind of nest of evil that is full of baby vampires, and by baby I mean hungry and stupid not actual babies. They get all FRESH MEAT and set to trying to eat Zelgius. Luckily, Zelgius is super awesome with his sword and manages to fend them off, time and again, although it takes ages and he loses most of his armour in the process. Finally, he thinks it's over. But there's on vampire left and it leaps at him and clings onto his back. Before Zelgius can kill it, it bites him just below his left shoulder blade (not the best place for a bite, but the only place it could reach). Zelgius kills it and that would be end of it. Except nothing is ever easy and he ends up almost dying because of the evil curse left in the room; away from places of evil, it would simply kill him. In evil places, he'd go through a very painful transformation, into a vampire.

Sephiran started life as a frail boy called Lehran. When he was still young (late teens, early twenties) he fell in love with a girl called Altina and they got married. Shortly after that, she was kidnapped by vampires. She'd deliberately let herself be taken instead of the other girls she was with. The vampires assumed she was still a virgin and were going to use her in one of their sacrifices. Unfortunately for them, Lehran chased after her because he might have been the frail waif boy to her action girl, but goddamn he was not going to let her be killed by vampires. It's while he's chasing after her that he discovers that he's got latent holy magic, so he spends most of the rescue attempt purifying monsters into oblivion. Unfortunately, he gets there too late (like, a second earlier and he'd have been able to save her too late) and the vampires have discovered her trickery and killed her. Seeing her dead sends Lehran more than slightly loopy and when he comes to, every vampire for like, two miles from him has been obliterated. A mysterious shadow appears and brags a bit, so Lehran obliterates it too. WEIRDNESS HAPPENS and the next thing Lehran knows, he can use dark magic stuff as well. This throws him for a bit, but he figures that he can fight the forces of evil even better now.

STUFF HAPPENS and Lehran becomes the Holy Man Sephiran who happens across a dying knight and happens to kiss him better. And thus begins the story of Sephiran and Zelgius.

This post isn't really meta, is it? OH WELL.

So in general, dark magic =/= evil, although it is usually used my evil beings. Light magic =/= good, but again, usually used by good people. Now, holy magic is like light magic's older, stronger, angrier brother and if an evil being tried to use it they'd pretty much be toast. Evil magic is like that for dark magic, but is far less common. It's part of Zelgius' curse; vampire's bites can sometimes leave a bit of evil magic in there and this can kill/turn a person depending on how evil they are, how evil the place around them is and how strong they are. A strong, good person will live (in pain) for a while, as long as they aren't in an evil place, while a weak good person will die quite quickly. If you're strong and evil then bam, you become a vampire no matter where you are. If you're weak, you only become a vampire in a place of extreme evil because otherwise you're too weak to make the change.

Sephiran kind of puts off holy magic like lightbulbs give off heat; you can't see it, but it's always there. When he touches Zelgius, he's passing on a more concentrated dose; when he kisses Zelgius, he's concentrating it even further and putting it inside Zelgius where it can work faster (like most medicines need to be inside to work properly). The more intimate the touch, or the more frequent the kisses or whatever, the more holy magic Sephiran transfers to Zelgius and the more the evil of the curse recedes. The only way to be completely rid of the curse would be to pour a huge amount of holy magic into the wound, but that much magic that near to Zelgius' heart would probably kill him. There isn't really much they can do apart from what they are doing.

My wrist hurts now, so I'll just leave this for now and come back to it later.
