Rob Zombie and his guitarist John 5 appeared on That Metal Show recently promoting their new album, VENOMOUS RAT REGENERATION VENDOR, so I purchased it off Amazon. I got the CD, I remain old school in that vein, but taking advantage of their cloud service, I was listening to it just minutes after purchasing it. Every piece of music one buys from them is on their cloud service and ready to be listened to at any time. One can even make up a playlist from all music on the site. I’ve listened to the album twice since the purchase and quite like it. On the reviews on Amazon the five stars far outweigh all the rest, though there are some one stars.
Zombie combines his two loves again: heavy metal and horror movies. He even does a cover on this one. On the interview on That Metal Show, he explained that he’d never been in a cover band. White Zombie was his first band and they did original stuff only. Below are two personal favorites and the cover.

I saw these guys in 1980, probably on this tour. They were co-headlining with The Doobie Brothers. I’d never heard of then at the tine, going to see The Brothers, but they quickly became a favorite. Sadly, at the time, Michael Schenker, another favorite had left the band for other options, returning briefly to The Scorpions, from which he’d left to join UFO. He periodically returns to play with them.

There was a time when this album seemed permanently attached to the turntable. It got played at least once every day. A theme oriented album from SAVATAGE, a progressive metal band formed by brothers Criss and Jon Oliva in 1978. This one was released in 1987 and produced by Paul O’Neill, the first time working with the band.
After awhile, something else shiny and new caught my eye and it got pushed to the side. Not forgotten though.

They talked about these boys on THAT METAL SHOW on VH1-Classic one Saturday night and I had to check them out. Enjoy.

Scott suggested something with a Christmas theme since next month the Holidays will be past. You asked for it, Scott.
I’m not sure how forgotten this CD is as it was released in 2006 and was a hiit at the time. Twisted Sister was big back in the early eighties, a mix of metal, glam rock, and punk. Dee Snider, head Sister, was at the center for hearings about labeling pop music as to content to protect the kids(grown-ups never seem to realize, and forget what it was like when they were children, that if you tell them NOT to do something they will; labeling music was a godsend to the music industry, though they will never admit it, and only made the kids want it even more than they would have if the adults had just stayed out of it).
The band had it’s problems over the years and split, reforming, still occasionally touring, and doing a final Christmas album in their inimitable style.
Everyone have a nice Thanksgiving.
