WordPress Origin Story

WordPress was (one of multiple open source platforms) recommended to me by a teacher during my tertiary studies in 2013. Unfortunately I did what most people would in this situation and searched “WordPress” in Google. Of course the first result was WordPress dot com, and upon discovering that I couldn’t even write custom CSS without a paid plan, promptly wrote WordPress off as something I would never use. It wouldn’t be until a full year later, after completing my studies and searching for jobs and seeing WordPress reguarly mentioned as a platform employers were looking to hire for that I finally discovered the open source project. Sometimes I can’t help but wonder what opportunities I missed in that year.
