The Black Rabbits
The Black Rabbits are an indie rock band from Orlando, Florida. Their "old sound" and meaningful lyrics really set them apart from other bands in the genre. Brothers Jetson (vocals, guitar, and lyrics) and Skyler (drums and other "shakey things") Black, and Reah Smith (basist and backup vocals), really put on a good show. I've often heard their music described as "modern vintage".

They most often play shows in the Central Florida area, and have one coming up in West Melbourne on June 6th.

Young Adult Book Club
Hi!

I thought maybe some of you might be interested.

Me and a friend started a book club for young adults: Y.A.W.E.R.S. Orlando Book Club, Young Adults Who Enjoy Reading Still.

We plan on reading a wide variety of books and occasionally discussing movies. The plan is to meet once a month at a local coffee shop.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, GODSPELL is one of the most successful musicals in history. It present a whimsical view of Jesus, who is dressed like a clown with a red nose, a red heart painted on his forehead, and a Superman shirt. His followers and disciples re-enact parables and scenes from Jesus' life with great energy.

Featuring a sparkling, seminal score, Godspell boasts a string of recognizable songs, led by the international hit, "Day By Day." As the cast of actor/clowns makes it way through "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "Save The People," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "Bless The Lord," "All For The Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side," we, as audience members get to see the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.

Global Peace Film Festival


I wanted to take the time to tell you guys about the Global Peace Film Festival, which will be coming to the Orlando/Winter Park area at the end of the month.

The festival serves to use film as a vessel to achieve peace throughout the world.

The films cover a variety of important topics from the touching to the candid; political and humanitarian; serious to humorous. Topics include a look at what happens when the Dalai Lama invites 40 of the most highly regarded Western thinkers to discuss the world's problems and how to solve it (Dalai Lama Renaissance); a documentary that follows several average people from morning to past midnight on Election Day 2004 (Election Day); The story of people trying to reclaim their homes after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina (New Home Movies from the Lower 9th Ward); A look at the challenges that three immigrant nannies face while taking care of other people's children in New York City ( Other People's Children); and Using art as a form of healing while facing the AIDS/HIV epidemic in Africa (A Ripple in the Water: Healing through Art).

Who knew that watching movies could serve as a humanitarian effort?

so i'm gonna be stuck in orlando from approximately sunday night 'til tuesday night, and i'd really like to do something there other than theme park hopping. i'm an indie kid at heart, so i'm trying to figure out where the hot spots are and where the scene congregates. i'm doing some googling, too, but i thought you guys may know better.

are there any "bohemian" orlando neighborhoods you'd recommend that have lots of stores, record shops, and maybe even a venue or two? where are the some good places to spend a whole day at? thanks in advance!

Subletting - UCF area
Hey everyone...

I'm moving up to UCF in August and want to stay in the Jefferson Village Apartments. I don't want to stay in a dorm because the pickings are slim (and I want a kitchen to cook in!), but I don't plan on staying in Orlando for the summer. 

Is it generally hard or easy to find people to take over your lease in the summer? Especially at a place like Jefferson Village, given that it is brand new housing? 

Maybe I would have luck when that time comes posting things on facebook and craigslist to the incoming freshmen? 

How hard is it to find someone? 

What should I do?

anyone need a place for the summer?

If you or anyone you know wants to live in St. Pete, FL for the summer, PLEASE let me know! I need to sublet my AWESOME (and pretty cheap) apartment for the summer! YAY!

 

It's a really big 2 bedroom, 1 bath, it's about 1 minute from he Skyway. It has a washer/dryer hookup in it, and we could leave our washer and dryer in it because we got new ones. Both bedrooms have ENORMOUS walk-in closets too, and we have a cute little balcony. The apartment complex has 4 big pools, tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, a fitness center, a community center, etc. It's pretty much like living in a resort. The rent is $716 (which is pretty good for the size, the amenities, and the fact that it's only a block from the water). The apartment complex requires that everyone has basic cable too, which is $36 and brings the total to $752. We really really like it here, but we just got a house. We have to move into the house May 20th, and our lease doesn't end until September. So, any or all of the months between the end of May, June, July, and August would be awesome!

2.24.07 UCF Radisson Hotel Charity Car Wash
Help O-ROCK 105.9 and the UCF Radisson Hotel Raise Money For A good cause! SATURDAY FEBRUARY 24TH the UCF Radisson Hotel on the corner of ALAFAYA TRAIL and 50 will be hosting a car wash from 11am to 3pm to raise money for a 16 month old girl in dire need of a heart transplant. She is the daughter of a long time employee of the hotel and her medical bills are mounting rapidly. Any donations to help baby Alyssa's family are greatly appreciated. Not only does Baby Alyssa need a heart transplant, but since she's been in the hospital, she's had other complications, including a stroke. This beautiful baby girl needs your help!
