Don't live there. I know that it is easier to live on base, especially in MD and DC, but the hassle of leaving made me want to tear out my hair and kick someone. I was given the list of all the things that I had to do before I moved out. No problem, we patched all of the holes from the pictures, did a good job cleaning (I cleaned Mil housing for a while so I know what they want and what they make the families do to move out) and made sure the lawn was fresh cut and raked. Well, this was the worst move out EVER!!! I had to pay for a special carpet cleaning, before they would do the out processing, due to the fact I have a pet. So $200 for that. No problem, I expected the rest of the month's rent back, so what it $200 for the $1,000 I should get back. nope. They decided that they would change their contractors so everyone that used their old list had to pay them to clean the carpets (this is the 4th contractor list that I know of since November). And my cleaning wasn't right cause I have a kid, so they charged me $325 for a 'child clean up fee'. And $350 for the carpets (because the carpet life is 10 years and they have 7.5 years left and there were marks that neither of the carpet cleaners could get up). Then they went on and on about how I was a horrible house cleaner and since I didn't change the light bulb at the top of the landing that would be $7... for a light bulb that is 10 feet high. Ok... Then the lady went on and on about how wonderful their company is and they are just great and almost nobody has to pay to move out... that is because everyone that I know that has moved out of housing has lost their entire rest of the months $$$. I know 9 people to move out and all got less than $100 back... One guy I know had to pay almost $2,000 because they decided that he needed to replace all of his carpet and he left on the 2nd, so they got loads out of him. (I am getting a whopping $4.35 after they tacked on all of the cleaning and maint fees) The housing people (never known for their niceness at any base I have ever been to) are mean, nasty and just plain RUDE. I understand that they would rather deal with the military member, but as we all know, PCS-ing means that the whole family needs to chip in and do what we can to make it as easy as possible. But these guys were rude and unhelpful EVERYTIME I had a problem or needed something done. A nice example- I had a pipe burst. The maint guy spent 30 minutes telling me how it was all my fault that the pipe burst and I did it on purpose and I would have to pay for it. HUH??? I didn't even know there was a pipe there until water started to rush through the wall. So instead of turning off the water, he spent his time telling me how I was 'abusing' the 'kindness' of the maint people and making them fix my mistakes. OOOOKKKK... there are so many more examples that I have. I made a complaint but I wanted to pass it on. Stay out of Andrews family housing unless you can't get anything else. Live on Fort Meade or drive from Anne Arundal county. |
