So, "the cure" is like my song of the summer at this point.
(everyone: are you okay? me: fine, why do you ask?)
I was tentatively hyped for the whole album. I'm not that familiar with Rodrigo's stuff, being almost twice her age and more into folk than pop, but the two singles seemed promising. I will say the whole album is a lot more like "drop dead" of the two, which I didn't like as much as "the cure." After two listens through, I have a couple songs that I like, but no new ones that I love, and it's all a bit samey? I'll give it another listen, but you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love (great title!) is not blowing me away. Again, it's also not for me, so I hope her fans enjoy it.

Here's a great live version of "the cure," with a string section.

I'm nothing like her, certainly grew up in a completely different place and mythos, to mention nothing of our different ages but...

My inner teenager loves her and can connect to her in a way from that POV I can't to pop stars like Taylor Swift, etc. I also love Billie Eilish but she's a whole different kettle of fish.

Olivia reminds me a WHOLE lot of me in my early twenties that other young women artists just don't. I think it's the secret riot grrrl in her.

The mystery of art.

There are a lot of things where we can easily explain what we love and don't love and then there are the things where our reaction is more visceral... or not.

I'm happy to get into a discussion of works with someone states something like 'this is the best song ever made' but if it's 'the song I love the most' or 'hate the most' that's different.

There are certainly things I love where I can't make an objective argument in their favour at all and wouldn't try.

I love, love love it when strings get incorporated into rock pop, and this one is great.

The whole thing does seem samey. I think I liked more tracks than you -- drop dead, stupid song, begged, the cure, cigarette smoke -- but not the rest. I also really like her live performances more than the very processed studio versions. All in all this didn't change my opinion of her a lot....the song w Robert Smith was pretty disappointing.
