Meta:Requests for adminship

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Shortcut:
WM:RFA
This page hosts requests for administrator access on the Meta-Wiki; for requesting administrator access on any other wiki, please find the appropriate venue on the index of request and proposal pages. Requests for bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight and bot, as well as removal of them (other than inactivity) are also made here. Before making a request here, please see the administrator policy.

Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.

Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.

All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.

See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.

Wikimedia Meta-Wiki

Information

Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.

Regular adminship

  1. Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
  2. Use the box below, insert your username:

  3. Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example {{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the bottom. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request.
  4. Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.

Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, they are less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.

Bureaucratship

Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:

  • Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
  • User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after they nominate themselves here.

If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see the Meta bureaucrat page.

Other access

For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.

  • Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.

  • CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.

  • Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.

For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:

Requests for global renamer permissions are handled at global permission requests to stewards page.

Wikimedia Foundation staff and contractors

If you are a Wikimedia Foundation staff member or contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties, the request process is different. Please review the WMF staff userrights policy on Foundation-wiki and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety by sending an email to ca@wikimedia.org.

Requests for translation adminship

As a coordinator of a language archive contributing to Wikimedia projects, and a maintainer of several OERs and tools, I need to update and mark text for translation. While there are many really nice people who help generously, it will be helpful to mark for translation while updating. I also speak and write multiple languages, so I can translate for myself. Rest assured, I'm aware of the responsibility and accountability that comes with power! --Psubhashish (talk) 05:43, 11 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Comment- I think you are requesting Translation admin rights if so please move this page to Meta:Requests for translation adminship/Psubhashish list it on Meta:Requests for adminship at the top of the appropriate section, and please mark a sample page for translation as per Meta:Internationalization guidelines.--A826 · · © 06:07, 11 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much @SHB2000, I'll prepare this soon. Thanks for flagging, @A826 and @EPIC. I was overloaded with other things and will format a sample page per the guidelines. Will request to assume good faith. Psubhashish (talk) 10:24, 12 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have now moved the request to its correct spot and transcluded it. The fact that this nomination wasn't properly formatted or transcluded generally isn't a good look, as this is the requestor's responsibility to do. But aside from this, as mentioned above, please prepare, or show that you have prepared, a page for translation in accordance with Meta:Internationalization guidelines, so that we know you are familiar with translation markup. • Oppose Oppose per EPIC. I expect someone going for TA to, at the very least, be able to follow instructions. shb (tc) 06:41, 11 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Oppose No, if they can't transclude the request, I have some serious doubts about their abilities to follow instructions for translation administration. EggRoll97 (talk) 18:18, 16 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I've of course contributed in transcluding before such as this but I'm genuinely busy now organising an event that over 40 Indigenous-language trainers and emerging trainers will attend starting coming Monday. You're most welcome to punish me for the delay but I have to ensure participants and trainers receive all the details on time. I also coordinate a larger project and a am contributing to a major curriculum development. It's not humanly possible for me to prove that I can responsibly transclude until all the critical tasks for the upcoming event is complete. You're most welcome to check and verify since these are on-wiki. Every time there is a small change, I need to reach out to an admin to help transclude. That was the reason I requested. I couldn't research enough about the process and I own that mistake. All I request is a few more days or max. a week so that I complete the transclusion task. Psubhashish (talk) 18:35, 16 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I mostly maintain the Lingua Libre, {{lingualibre}}, Microfi & subpages, I'm generally the one implementing advanced new template features. Lacking the TA rights creates unneeded friction and holds me back while testing as my code is not propagated until the a TA approves the new code. I already have this user-right on Commons and about 70,000 edits on Wikimedia projects. It's a « little gain, little risk user-right » but it would help still, so allow me to make this user-right request here today. Yug (talk) 17:57, 26 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Yug Please prepare a page for translation as mentioned at Meta:TA --M/ (talk) 08:18, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello M7, is this demonstration suitable ? I added the French translations. Yug (talk) 21:11, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Yug, I am afraid it is better to prepare a sample page, also demonstrating your understanding of tvars' and MyLanguage link structures, and avoiding manually numbering translation sections. You can refer to Meta:Internationalization_guidelines and to mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration. Thanks. --M/ (talk) 06:12, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello M7, the previously shared link is from Commons where i'm TA, the numbering translation sections was automatic when I marked the page for translation. I can go deeper with a dummy page, tvar and MyLanguage links, understood. Yug (talk) 07:18, 30 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Yug, On the diff you linked, I see three issues.
  • First, you manually added T-markers. You should not, they are automatically added by Translate extension while using “mark the page” feature.
  • Secondly, translate tags should not be added inline in headings, because that breaks anchor generation at translation pages. Simply ensure they are included inside a pair of translate tags and separated from other paragraphs with an empty line just before and just after.
  • Thirdly, please try to wrap all “technical” stuff which must not be translated inside tvars, so the translator work is easier and less prone to mistakes.
Regards, -- Pols12 (talk) 17:31, 8 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
CC to Yug. Codename Noreste (talkcontribs) 20:45, 12 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I don't think I'll use TA rights much for now, other than preparing and marking U4C (and UCoC) pages for translation. However, we are "losing" a committee member who has TA rights, and having someone on the Committee who can prepare and mark pages for translation is useful. Here is the page I have prepared as a test User:Civvì/Sandbox1.

Many thanks in advance for considering this request and for any guidance or corrections you may have. --Civvì (talk) 08:54, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
