Hi @Anacrodriguezr (Projeto Mais+): thanks for the request. A few things: first, please take a look at the guidelines, since the request was using a different template format. I already fixed it, but for future requests please use the default template linked from the main request page.

Second, the banners you provided are in Wikitext format, but CentralNotice banners need to be created in html/css. You can either request a standard banner, or provide your own banner code following the guidelines here. Please keep in mind that banners should work properly across different devices and also in both light and dark mode. I’ve already created the campaign, but the banner is still missing for now. Description - This is a call for participation (session proposals and registration) for WikiProject Days 2026, an online community gathering focused on improving WikiProjects on Wikidata. The event is organised by Wikimedia Deutschland. The banner will link to the event talk page on Wikidata where users can submit session ideas and register.

The campaign aims to reach editors who are interested in WikiProjects and data quality. We want to encourage two main actions: (1) submitting a session proposal by May 26, and (2) registering to attend the event (June 19-21).

Metrics - We have no baseline of how many responses to expect from a banner except the usual community advertisement of events such as the Wiki Loves Monuments. We aim for 10 session proposals and 75 registrations directly attributed to the banner.

@Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) I've created campaign [1] and banner [2] (preview [3]). Please check if everything works as expected.

As discussed offwiki I've used the Wikidata logo and a shorter text. I've also set the campaign start date to May 19 instead of May 18 to allow for some extra time to review after the weekend (the campaign also needs approval from a volunteer CN admin and it's not clear how fast that can happen).

Note that I'm not sure if it's useful to run the banner for logged-out users given that the landing page only allows logged-in users to register for the event. Let's discuss this on Monday, but I believe restricting the banner to logged-in users only would be the better decision. --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 18:12, 13 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you @Johannes.
- I've checked and the banner preview is okay.
- Start time May 19 is okay a well.
- I think we should show the banner to non-logged in users too. We will be exposing the event Jitsi link on wiki and also on our socials so even non-logged-in users (if they really don't want to register) can still click it and join. We're only using the event page to track numbers and to send out targeted messages. -Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE) (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Fine with me, I'll ask volunteer CN admins to take a look and enable the campaign if they're fine with it. Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 12:38, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Johannes Richter (WMDE), I just checked and everything is fine, so I'll enable the campaign :) Best, Soylacarli (talk) 14:57, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Johannes Richter (WMDE) & @Mohammed Abdulai (WMDE), FYI, I adjusted the banner to be translatable since you're targeting multiple languages, and the banner text was only in English. The translations are managed through translatewiki (I’ll take care of the Spanish translation). Best, Soylacarli (talk) 17:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot @Soylacarli! I didn't consider this to be strictly necessary given that Wikidata is a multilingual project and the banner doesn't target other projects, but it's certainly an improvement for non-English-speaking Wikidata editors. I've added a "help with translations" note [4] :) Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 18:14, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @DAnane(OFWA), I have a couple of questions:

  • is this campaign targeted at logged in or logged out readers?
  • will this campaign run on English Wikipedia in South Africa?

If it is targeting logged out readers on English Wikipedia in South Africa, it will clash with our fundraising campaign there. This means that your banners will be served to readers after they have seen their max impressions of fundraising banners. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 12:56, 20 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @JBrungs (WMF),
Thanks for your questions.
The campaign may also run on English Wikipedia in South Africa, but it is primarily targeted at logged-in users. We will be mindful of the fundraising campaign and can adjust targeting or timing if needed to avoid conflicts. DAnane(OFWA) (talk) 13:43, 20 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi @DAnane(OFWA):, per the guidelines, banners should run for a maximum of two weeks. If you'd like it to run longer, you'll need community consensus from the projects you're targeting. Let me know how you'd like to proceed. Also, could you please confirm the following details? They don't seem to be showing in the template:

  • target languages
  • whether the banner is for logged-in users, anonymous users, or both
  • target country/region

With that information, I can go ahead and set up the campaign. Best, --Soylacarli (talk) 21:36, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Soylacarli, thank you for the guidance.
Noted on the two-week banner limit . We’re happy to proceed within that timeframe for now.
Please find the campaign details below:
  • Target languages: English • French • Arabic • Swahili • Hausa • Yoruba • Igbo • Twi (Akan) • Dagbani • Amharic • Kinyarwanda
  • Audience: Both logged-in and anonymous users
  • Target region: Sub-Saharan Africa (all available countries)
This campaign is for the Africa Wiki Challenge, so we are aiming for broad visibility across the region.
Thank you DAnane(OFWA) (talk) 13:01, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Soylacarli,
In the two weeks run of the banner which period within the month of campaign will the banner made available? DAnane(OFWA) (talk) 12:20, 4 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please enlist the “Sub-Saharan Africa”. We cannot select any larger group than countries (no continents, no sub-continents). We could look it up in a list, but we might miss something you wanted to target. :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:03, 4 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
hi@DerHexer,
Target region: Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Madagascar, Burundi, Morocco, Egypt. DAnane(OFWA) (talk) 08:53, 5 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DAnane(OFWA):
  • Re: "In the two weeks run of the banner which period within the month of campaign will the banner made available?" You can decide for your two preferred weeks within the campaign time frame.
  • I have checked the language, country and user settings and they seem doable for me. I have copied them to the request template at the top of the page.
  • Re: "but it is primarily targeted at logged-in users" What do you mean by that? Right now, you are requesting a CN campaign that equally targets anonymous and logged-in users. CN admins can set up two different campaigns with different number of impressions or even percentages for general display.
  • Lastly, but definitely the most challenging part: Per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines, we cannot process banners provided as images like File:AWC 2026 Central-Notice-Banner.gif. We need your own creation of a HTML/CSS/JavaScript version or can adapt the standard banner slightly, but not with many images like these (please notice that it is not recommended to use images of real people because of personality rights; logos are highly recommended) nor various text fields, background changes, etc. If you need more information on that, take a look at these slides or the training video. How do you want to proceed with that? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:37, 7 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @DerHexer - Thank you very much for the clarification and guidance.
- The first two weeks are preferred from the start date: 28th May 2026 - 10th June 2026
- Slightly prioritizes logged-in users while still allowing reasonable reach for anonymous users.
- Our own creation of a HTML/CSS/JavaScript version has been created with guidance with regulations given - link DAnane(OFWA) (talk) 15:24, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DAnane(OFWA): Thanks for the preparations (especially the banner code)! We have now reached a point where we can approve the request, but a few remarks remain. Nevertheless, I have created the campaign and banner (preview). Please check everything, approve our implementations and ping me so that I can enable the campaign. The remarks:
  • The banner is not dark-mode ready, but it looks okayish to me. If you can provide an update for that, we can implement it at any time. The banner works well on mobile.
  • Please help with translating the four lines in the banner into the target languages. You can see the progress here. Please ping me when a bunch of translations was added by your community members, because it requires a CentralNotice translation admin to publish the translations.
  • As of now, the landing page Event:Africa Wiki Challenge 2026 is English only. Banner text translations are more important, but the landing page should also be tagged for translation and translated into the main target languages. Here you can find the guidelines for adding the tags correctly. As soon as this is completed, a MetaWiki translation admin can mark it for translation, and you can ask your communities to add the translations (they need to be published by a MetaWiki translation admin). Fortunately, I am also a MetaWiki translation admin and can help with that if needed (but there are more experienced admins for that available). We would enable the campaign even if this is not completed, the banner text translations should be prioritized (that's much shorter texts anyway ;) ).

  • @Civvì: I have created the campaign and adapted the banner from last year:
    • I could reuse the "Read more on voter information and eligibility details." from the last year(s), but the other line was different so that it needs to be translated; ideally before the campaign starts. You can see the progress here. Please point translaters to that page. Occasionally, CN translation admins like me must approve them. Please keep such sentences as reusable as possible; we now have two versions ("The voting period for the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) charter is now open." and "The voting period for the proposed changes to the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines and Coordinating Committee (U4C) Charter is now open."). For future campaigns, choose one of these versions because then we can reuse their translations.
  • Please check everything, approve it and ping me so that I can enable the campaign. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:57, 7 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Tadeáš Bednarz (WMCZ): Could you clarify how the banners are meant to be used? Are they for different dates, or are they intended for logged-in vs. logged-out users? Just want to make sure everything is set up correctly before creating the campaign :). Best,--Soylacarli (talk) 18:29, 20 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

For both logged-in and logged-out users. The dates are the same with the two banners to be shown equally during the while campaign. Tadeáš Bednarz (WMCZ) (talk) 18:50, 20 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Tadeáš Bednarz (WMCZ) I've set up the campaign with both banners running at equal weight (and sorry for not catching that the first time!). Everything should now be configured correctly. Here's the preview for banner 1. And here for banner 2. One thing to keep in mind is that neither banner works in dark mode, you can check this in the preview by switching the appearance in the panel on the right. I’d recommend adjusting that before enabling the campaign. Best, Soylacarli (talk) 22:42, 24 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Soylacarli: Thanks for the review. I have updated the dark mode in the original banner pages, would you kindly review and update them? Thanks! Tadeáš Bednarz (WMCZ) (talk) 04:40, 25 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! Here's the preview for banner 1 and banner 2, they work well now in dark mode :). Once you give me the ok I can enable the campaign. Best, Soylacarli (talk) 17:42, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Ederporto: here's the campaign and the banner (preview). I also added brasil-pt as language just in case :-). Let me know if we need to change anything. Best, --Soylacarli (talk) 14:16, 1 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, @Soylacarli! I approve the banner. Cheers, Ederporto (talk) 16:28, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Ederporto and Soylacarli: The white background looks very bright in dark mode. Can you provide a dark-mode ready version? Or should we change the background color to something appropriate for both modes? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:44, 12 February 2026 (UTC) PS: As a German my heart always skips a beat when it sees monochromous triangles. — The red one in this direction stands for Wehrmacht deserters in concentration camps.[reply]
Hello, @DerHexer can you point me to how to test with dark mode? I did via Preferences>Gadget>Dark mode, and to me it changes white to black, and the red to a muted red. Maybe I can create a css workaround if that's the case, but I was unable to reproduce the problem.
About the PS, this is the symbol of the flag of Minas Gerais, and I'm quite confident that Brazilians will readily recognize it in that context. It's a well-known historical emblem here --attatched to the 1789 unsuccessful separatist movement called Inconfidência Mineira--, so the association tends to be very clear. I completely understand your point, though — context really does make all the difference! Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 14:14, 13 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Here on the right (maybe you have to uncollapse it at the top) there is a section "Color (beta)" which easily allows you to change between dark and standard mode. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:29, 13 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer, @Soylacarli, I just now updated the banner code to address the dark mode support. Please take a look and see if everything is working accordingly. I wish I could preview a banner in production. Cheers, EPorto (WMB) (talk) 19:42, 5 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@EPorto (WMB): I'm not sure if that has already been addressed. I cloned the banner and created a test version. The preview looks better in dark mode now (the logo is still very bright, but that's likely intended). However, the background is a bit busy and hidden behind the logo; is that also intended? Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:49, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Partially overlapping with CentralNotice/Request/WMDE online newcomer training courses 2026, if neccessary we could remove the federal states targeted by the other campaign. –MrBenjo (talk) 14:12, 25 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I will create the campaign tomorrow. Let's start with all of Germany and consider removing some regions after one week. Johannnes89 (talk) 17:06, 29 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Johannnes89: Giving the other campaign a higher priority might have also worked. Thankfully, this one has been successfully already. ;) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:01, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89, could you please close the campaign today, as we reached the targeted amount of registrations? Thanks, –MrBenjo (talk) 11:01, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I will implement the banner later this week. --Johannnes89 (talk) 15:51, 30 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Campaign [9], banner [10], preview link [11] (should only display a banner while you're in Tübingen and either logged-out or logged-in but less than 50 edits).
@DarkGreenAndSunny there are some issues:
  • The text is way too long (try looking at the banner at a smaller screen...)
    • How about just using the first question?
    • Ideally the second sentence would be shorter as well, e.g. removing "wieder"?
  • While looking at the landing page I noticed that the option to register is only available to logged-in users – as is the second option (Wikimail).
    • How about providing an email address for logged-out users who don't want to register prior to the event?
    • Linking Spezial:E-Mail senden/DarkGreenAndSunny somewhere (currently "per [[Hilfe:Wiki-Mail|Wiki-Mail]] an [[Benutzerin:DarkGreenAndSunny|DarkGreenAndSunny]]") might also be helpful for logged-in users...
Johannnes89 (talk) 11:09, 3 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for implementing our request!
  • We'll shorten the text, you are right, its way too long to work on different screens
(* What do you think of the suggestion
"Wolltest du schon immer wissen, wie die Wikipedia funktioniert?
Für alle Queers und Frauen kommenden Dienstag in Tübingen: Offenes Treffen" @Alpenhexe)
  • We are working on the e-mail address solution, yes! We are currently having the problem that we ourselves are not able to change the necessary settings of our mailing-list for non-subscribers to be able to contact us. But that was the idea and we're on it.
  • Should we not be able to provide the mailinglist solution, I'll think about your last idea, thanks!
DarkGreenAndSunny (talk) 11:03, 6 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Johannnes89, we agreed on the new text "Wolltest du schon immer wissen, wie die Wikipedia funktioniert?
Für alle Queers und Frauen kommenden Dienstag in Tübingen: Offenes Treffen", would you please update the displayed text for us? Thanks! DarkGreenAndSunny (talk) 12:59, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
DarkGreenAndSunny (talk) 18:47, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Angepasst und Banner aktiviert. Johannnes89 (talk) 15:44, 20 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Noting that CNC suggests an overlap with the monthly invites to CentralNotice/Request/Meeting WP:WWO in Stuttgart 2026 but I've been told that they won't run a banner in April – @Leserättin fyi. --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 17:44, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

That's right. We don't want a banner for the WWO-Meeting in April. So there is no conflict. Best wishes, Leserättin (talk) 18:24, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for creating the banner @Martin Rulsch (WMDE), the new geo-location script looks very interesting. The banner does not work in dark mode for me, and I notice there's a lot of text in the notice, and would advise (non-binding) to shorten the invitation to join the event. Ciell (talk) 07:56, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Together, we fixed the darkmode. Ciell has approved and enabled the campaign afterwards. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 13:17, 27 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Because of low registration numbers, we have added two more federal states and extended the duration of the campaign by three days. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 09:20, 5 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

April dates and federal states added, banner text slightly changed and geolocation removed. The rest stays the same. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 11:16, 17 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

First May campaign dates and federal states added, banner text slightly changed and geolocation removed. The rest stays the same. Best, Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 10:15, 14 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
