BERJAYAmeiriyici is intended to help individuals expand their Chinese vocabulary. The goal is to post commonly used words and phrases, not obscure ones. The community is not targeted for absolute beginners (i.e. there will be little to no discussion on sentence structure, how to read pinyin, etc), although everyone with an interest in learning Chinese is certainly welcome.

Why one a day? The idea of memorizing words out of a dictionary is good in theory, but difficult in practice. I know; I've tried. The hope is that by concentrating on one word or short phrase a day, vocabulary can be more easily and more permanently committed to memory. In addition, every Sunday, instead of a new phrase, the words for the previous week will be posted for review.

Posting Schedule
  • Monday-Saturday: a new Chinese phrase will be posted. Simplified and traditional characters will be included, as well as the English translation, Hanyu pinyin, and links to sound files for pronunciation. Words for the week will be related to a theme.

  • Sunday: the words for the previous week will be posted, as well as some "fun" Chinese resource, such as a link to translated song lyrics, a drama, a game, etc.

It is very helpful to review the new word/phrase in the morning, and try to recall it throughout the day.

This community is maintained by BERJAYAjpenryn. If you wish to volunteer for a more active role in the community, please contact via email. Responsibilities include finding and posting the daily Chinese phrase, moderating the community, and scouring the web for other Chinese resources.
