This post is about Lego blocks and Legoland. Lego blocks in their current interlocking form were invented in Billund, Denmark, in 1949. However, the history of Lego blocks started already in 1932 (in Denmark). You can read more about it here.
When I was a kid, growing up in northern Sweden, I loved building with Lego blocks, or if you call them Lego bricks (either way is fine). I’ve always wanted to visit Lego land in Denmark, but I never got the opportunity to do so. However, about 20 years ago me and my daughter (she was a young child at the time) visited Legoland in Carlsbad, California, a 128 acre theme park. Do you know how many Lego blocks there are in Legoland California? There are 60 million Lego blocks. Below are some photos from that trip. I should add that since this was 20 years ago, a lot has been added to Legoland.

That is truly impressive, Thomas! 🤩 The buildings all look perfect, down to the most intricate detail. I bet the Legoland in Denmark is even more awesome. Lovely daughter! 🙂

Thank you so much Debbie. I can add that Legoland in Denmark is a bit smaller area wise but they have more Lego blocks, 80 million.

Yes. My son, when he was little, was a lego master. It is a wonderful lego world.

I really enjoyed this post, Thomas. It reminded me of my visit to Legoland in the UK. Happy memories, but different builds. These you have shared are amazing.

Thank you so much Esther. I’ve only been to Legoland in California but I’ve realized that there are many others Denmark, UK, Germany, and France. There are 13 Legolands and another 11 discovery centers.

Impressive and stunning photos, Thomas. I can not imagine the great skill it would take to create just one of these structures in Lego! Fantastic!

I agree, that must be quite challenging. I’ve read that Lego master builder is a profession. It does not pay like an engineer, but the pay is not bad. They spend all there working time building with legos, like the buildings and other things at Legoland.

Oh wow, what a skill to have. And a fun job, I would imagine. Thanks Thomas.

Yes it would probably be a fun job to have. However, putting circuits together as an electronics engineer is equally fun and better paid (I did that when I was younger).

The F1 now has all their cars made out of Legos. Not sure what that’s about!

Well, that is cool. Lego master builder is a real profession and they need work. Formula 1 building Lego models of their cars is interesting.
