Was away and missed our Authors birthday - but, better late than never. Many, many more years (and books for us fans) to you Steven Brust. Here's to the next VLAD release.

Just finished this book, and can't quite make up my mind. Did I like it or not? This story seems to take place just a few weeks after his split with Cawti. Don't think it really advanced Vlad's history very much and this is the 11th story. One for each house, leaves the series with only 7 more, as TALTOS is not a Dragaeran House.
Has anyone else read this book yet? What did you think?
Guess I was hoping for a storyline about Lady Teldra (his new sword) ""waking up". After all, he is a "short lived" individual, and "tempus fugit". At least, at the end of DZUR, he gets to meet his son.

i'm not a reader of penny arcade, but i recently introduced someone to the Brust series and they said, "thanks! now i understand this."
not sure if anyone ever saw it when it was actually posted in 2006, but it's the first time *i've* seen it, so there.

10:35 am - Dzur...
|

The third book I've read recently is Dzur, the eleventh Vlad Taltos book by Steven Brust. Like the rest, I loved this book. It was hilarious, intriguing, action packed, and left questions to be answered in later books. But then again, all his books can be described that way.

After the great events of the last book, Vlad returns to the city to get a bight to eat. He's approached by a figure we've heard of but never met, in these books, anyway, about a problem involving his wife. He heads into the Easterners quarter to find out what's going on and to work to fix it. Then things get difficult.
This book contains wonderful descriptions of food, and gives us a more detailed look at the Left Hand of Jhereg, and well as the House Dzur. It is a fun, quick read, that doesn't lack in quality or substance. Steven Brust once more pulls off an excellent book.

6:21 pm - Some questions
|

phule77
|
1. Does Klava really exist? Did it exist, by some other Eastern European name, before Brust began using it in the draegran novels? Following the basic recipe in Issola, has anybody actually successfully recreated it?
2. Every time i read these books, I get really hungry. When is the cookbook coming out, pray tell?

5:36 pm - I don't know if this has ever been brought up before, but...

I'm getting toward the end of 500 years later (second time through) and even though the Phoenix Emperor has just taken office, technically if Adron kills him successfully, the cycle has automatically changed.
So the question is...has Brust ever stated a period, historically, where some major portion of a cycle went by quickly due to various houses kiling each other? Or rather, what is the most reigns that have ever been gone through in a burst at a rather high rate of speed, relatively?
From some of the discussions about uprisings that Sethra has either engaged in or put down, it sounds like they're relatively frequent...
