Spring is coming!

Start the Countdown to Spring with University Pagan Society

UPS, for the first time in several years, will be holding a ritual open
to the general public. The ritual will celebrate Imbolc, also known as Candlemas, a
rite commonly practiced in Wicca as the halfway point to the coming spring.

The ritual will take place indoors on the University of Minnesota
campus, in Folwell room 116. The physical address is 9 Pleasant Street
SE, Minneapolis MN 55455. Parking is available one block away at the
Church Street Ramp, and this is right off the 16 bus line.

I am quite active as a magickal practitioner. Aside from the daily magick, I go to different events and use singing bowls to attune people's energies using a system which incorporates empathy to see what the vibrations are doing, and focus the energies to where they need to be. I also have learned that by listening to the bowls, they can tell me quite a bit about what is happening inside a person. I often work with a Reiki master, combining our talents in a system which is far more effective than either one separate. We have practiced our spiritual healing across the midwest at many events.

I am also active in organizing Pagan festivals. I am currently involved with organizing five different events. My personally favorite one so far is SummerFyre.

SummerFyre is a uniquely magickal midsummer gathering. Ponca State Park has the best energy of any park in the region. Broomsdae (a festival decorating company which I co-own) adds extra magick to any gathering. The SummerFyre staff all do their best to contribute to the invocations of the festival, and to keep everyone in a good vibe. There are workshops and other activities, but the main draw of the festival is its wonderful energy.

The 2006 theme is "Unleashing the Magick" and SummerFyre really does unleash the magick. It's not uncommon for there to be paranormal activity at SummerFyre. there is always something that happens which defies all rational explanation. One year during a powerful bit of paranormal activity, one person's camera got fried. She had a 35 mm camera with lots of electronic doodads. All the pictures from before the incident turned out, but none from after the incident. She took the camera in to be repaired and was told that it couldn't be repaired. The guy asked "were you in a nuclear power plant?" All the innards were fried from excessive electromagnetic exposure. There are many stories of paranormal activity, but that camera is verifiable proof that something actually did happen, and it was powerful.

There is really no limit to the magickal possibilities at SummerFyre. SummerFyre 2006 will be June 23-25, olde Midsummer weekend. Come, camp, and enjoy.

I wanted to ask a quick question...

My finace and I are looking to get our engagement pictures taken outside at a park somehwere in des moines. Problem is, i'm not familiar with the parks in des moines. Can anyone recommend a park that would be pretty to take pictures in. I would prefer someplace in north or west des moines, or at least easily accesible from the interstate(s).
