Dragons

Dragons are the most powerful creatures in Ruin World with the exception of gods and even a god’s avatar is hard pressed on the prime material plane against an elder wyrm.

Dragons are not to be confused with wyverns, a smaller and inferior breed of beast that with their wings and breath weapon possess a passing resemblance to dragons. Dragons tend to despise wyverns. Unlike wyverns, dragons tend to be possessing of a variety of impressive powers. Even the green dragons, the lowliest of the wyrms possess the ability to cast potent magics and speak; skills beyond any wyvern.

Dragons can be divided roughly into two categories: the chromatics (Green, White, Black, Blue, and Red) who were made by the elder powers from the raw energy of the cosmos and magic of the world and are thus more powerful, and the metallics (Brass, Bronze, Iron, Silver, Gold) who were made from the materials of the earth and the will of the gods and are typically weaker than their chromatic brethren but are also more stable.

Most dragons tend to be careful, methodical creatures. They have a lifespan that even dwarfs the near immortality of the elves and can afford to be both patient and crafty in their ways. Different dragons crave different things: some crave knowledge, others power, still others crave dominion over all life while some only wish to be left in peace.  The chromatic dragons tend to be intensely passionate creatures, whether that passion be greed or hatred or ambition or in some rare cases, love and loyalty. They were created in a time before the gods and were imbued with the magic that made the world itself.    The metallic dragons; crafted not by the supreme powers but instead by their servants, the gods and using only the bones of the world as the substance of their shaping are considered a lesser breed by their chromatic cousins. However since the metallic dragons were made of the world, they find that they have an easier time of being a part of the world rather than holding themselves above it. It is worth noting that these are only broad generalizations and a variety of exceptions exist for both races.

In addition to the variety of weapons already at their disposal, dragons possess a final gift that makes them truly formidable: dracacwide, dragon magic. Dragons need neither a spellbook, nor a god to cast their magic. Furthermore they are capable of crafting magics that shape the world around them to their own pleasing, even sometimes unconsciously. The creation of many magical creatures: chimera, owlbears and other such beasts may be traced back to mages who had knowledge or access to these wyrm-rites.

Sages or conquerors, heroes or tyrants: dragons make invaluable allies and implacable foes. They touch the lives of all those around them for good or for ill and they are anything but ignored. With rending claws, wings that can summon a windstorm, devastating breath weapons, terrible magic, and all this directed by a mind honed keen by millennia and gathered in a gargantuan body, the dragon remains lord of all he surveys. The mortal that slays a true dragon earns whatever accolades are heaped upon him as it is a feat bordering on the impossible.

The Aftermath

This is the conclusion of the major story arc that my DnD game was centered on.  I will be presenting it to my players this Thursday, after they actually complete it.  I was motivated to write this after watching a YouTube video called "The Faces of World War 1: The ones who've seen horror"  It is a short comilation of pictures and clips of "The Men with the Broken Faces" and men with "Shell-Shock".  I was totally moved, and as a tribute to them, I give this little jotting of information.

Chapter I Epilogue

Sorry, it has been a long time since I have had the time to write anything at all.  I have been so busy with school, work, and DnD that I haven't really had time for living to be honest.  My players just finished a major plot point, and concluded the first chapter of my game.  I wrote this epilogue to be a part of their role-playing experience, and to give them a heads up of what else is going on in my world at the moment.  Here goes.

Demons

Hey all,
Sorry for the lapse in writing.  Taking everything I could about demons in Ruin World and boiling it down to a page and change took a little work.
Still hope this is good and creepy: enjoy!

Not bad old friend, I like the sense of history and racial pride you've help give the orcs. The nod to D&D with the one eyed god was a nice touch and the surprise at the end with the…

I love it. I haven't even looked at demons and devils in depths for my own world. I have just been working around with the races primarily.

I really liked this one. This is something that seems like it could be a good overview to an entire story!

The descriptions were very vivid, especially: , Cropping of wood and leaf burst from his…

Hey, D. The cut isn't working for some reason. The text and link of the cut is there, but only one sentence of the story is in it, the rest is outside.
