Can anyone confirm if...
Yesterday while listening to KEXP at work, I think I heard Cheryl Waters, the mid-morning to afternoon DJ, announce that EPID contributed a song to a compilation CD called Sweetheart 2010 on the Hear Music label. After some clicking around, I came up with no confirmation of this. Hear Music is the Starbucks music label and their website didn't list Sweetheart 2010 as for sale. Could be that KEXP got an advanced copy and the CD will go on sale at Starbucks in the near future. Valentines Day? Does anyone know anything about this? | | Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 | 10:09 am [taeaux]

EPID at Bumbershoot 2009 EPID played two sets on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Bumbershoot Festival here in Seattle. The sky threatened to rain all day, but thankfully the bad weather held off until later in the night. I wasn't able to attend the KEXP broadcast, but I hope some of you got to listen online. I arrived at Seattle Center around 6 p.m. and wandered a bit to get a feel for the festival layout. EPID played the Northwest Court Stage (right near the super-secret clean indoor bathroom) which was the folk/jazz oriented stage. It was the only stage with actually chairs for seating. I decided to watch Eleni Mandell at the Northwest Court Stage until Os Mutantes was due to start on the Fisher Green Stage at 7:30. Then I saw Elvis and Nick! I went right over to the white wooden fence and said hello. I chatted with EP for a minute. We watched Eleni Mandell's first song, then he went backstage (a tent) and I left and watched Os Mutantes! They are a legendary Brazilian psychedelic band from the 60s. As I looked back in the crowd, I saw Brigham and Wyndham watching the show. In fact, Brigham asked the audience, "Did anyone watch Os Mutantes? They're awesome." If you watch the very, very end of the WYWS video, Elvis bends down and throws something into the audience. It was the setlist, and it fluttered over to me. Here it is: E (1,2,3 Goodbye) D (I Heard Your Voice in Dresden) C,C,C IBA Hey Gyspy Emiles Stop Drop Mary (Weeping Pilgrim) Hours Zom (Stay Zombie) Poo DD WYWS | | Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 | 7:25 pm [modpixie]

Elvis on Mark Mulcahy Tribute Album
Musical visionary types take care of their own. Mark Mulcahy was the frontman for the 1980s Connecticut-based alt-rock band Miracle Legion, who released a few hard-to-find albums of R.E.M.-esque college rock jangle before breaking up in the mid-90s. He also led Polaris, the band who did the music for the beloved Nickelodeon kids' show "The Adventures of Pete & Pete". Since then, he's released three solo albums. Late last year, Mulcahy's wife Melissa died unexpectedly, leaving him to take care of his three-year-old twin daughters. If Mulcahy is going to keep making music, he'll need help. And fortunately, he's getting it. On September 29, Shout! Factory will release Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, a tribute album to Mulcahy that will also serve as a benefit for him. An amazingly stacked lineup of indie rock greats have contributed their versions of Mulcahy songs. Thom Yorke takes on "All for the Best", Michael Stipe turns in his version of "Everything's Coming Undone", and the National handle "Ashamed of the Story I Told". Dinosaur Jr., Mercury Rev, and Frank Black also contribute songs. Tracklist below. Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy: 01 Thom Yorke: "All for the Best" 02 The National: "Ashamed of the Story I Told" 03 Michael Stipe: "Everything’s Coming Undone" 04 David Berkeley: "Love's the Only Thing That Shuts Me Up" 05 Dinosaur Jr.: "The Backyard" 06 Chris Harford and Mr. Ray Neal: "Micon the Icon" 07 Frank Black: "Bill Jocko" 08 Vic Chesnutt: "Little Man" 09 Unbelievable Truth: "Ciao My Shining Star" 10 Butterflies of Love: "I Have Patience" 11 Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne: "Cookie Jar" 12 Frank Turner: "The Quiet One" 13 Rocket From the Tombs: "In Pursuit of Your Happiness" 14 Ben Kweller: "Wake Up Whispering" 15 Josh Rouse: "I Woke Up in the Mayflower" 16 Autumn Defense: "Paradise" 17 Hayden: "Happy Birthday Yesterday" 18 Juliana Hatfield: "We're Not in Charleston Anymore" 19 Mercury Rev: "Sailors and Animals" 20 Elvis Perkins: "She Watches Over Me" 21 Sean Watkins: "A World Away From This One" ( My story about MMCollapse ) Current Mood: thoughtful | | Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | 10:33 am [taeaux]

Songs of Praise and Sorrow: Elvis Perkins. "I experience music to be a magic liquid, or magic substance, with mostly healing properties. And it might be misused or mixed badly, but all things can be. Or in the hands of the wrong doctor, it can make somebody sick. But I believe in the sanctity and the power and the magic of the stuff. And the mystery." Under the Radar (New Zealand). "He's going to just be happy and sad and goddamn it, he's going to be done with it - unabashed in the mixture of his emotions." Express Night Out. "It was pretty grueling. We pretty much said yes to everything and did everything. I wasn't then and I'm not sure I am even now fully used to the touring lifestyle, and I don't think it's especially conducive to the creative process." | 8:48 am [modpixie]

Singer Elvis Perkins is a Man of Mysteries. On the In Dearland sleeve art: “Well, we’re back at the mysteries, aren’t we? I think it’s good that you can’t figure it out and I wouldn’t want to figure it out for you. It strikes me sometimes as a square bell or an exploding horn. Maybe a singing frog. Perhaps something to do with vampires.” Elvis Perkins Shakes Things Up with Dearland. "Early on, I knew I had no choice. I knew I was going to do something creative. I inherited those genes -- I never had the mind-set to be a banker or a lawyer. I grew up in an artistic environment, so I followed suit." | | Thursday, May 7th, 2009 | 7:33 am [modpixie]
