The Mass Effect Kink Meme is Moving to AO3
Jul. 8th, 2026 06:33 pm
The Mass Effect Kink Meme a prompt meme for the Mass Effect games, is being imported to the Archive of Our Own (AO3).
In this post:
- A bit of background explanation
- What this means for creators who have works on The Mass Effect Kink Meme
- And what to do if you still have questions
Background explanation
The archive is being imported to AO3 to preserve the works and make them available to a wider audience.
The purpose of the Open Doors Committee’s Online Archive Rescue Project is to assist moderators of archives to incorporate the fanworks from those archives into the Archive of Our Own. Open Doors works with moderators to import their archives when the moderators lack the funds, time, or other resources to continue to maintain their archives independently. It is extremely important to Open Doors that we work in collaboration with moderators who want to import their archives and that we fully credit creators, giving them as much control as possible over their fanworks. Open Doors will be working with Liara!Mod to import The Mass Effect Kink Meme into a separate, searchable collection on the Archive of Our Own.
We will begin importing works from The Mass Effect Kink Meme to AO3 no sooner than August 2026. However, the import may not take place for several months or even years, depending on the size and complexity of the archive. Creators are always welcome to import their own works and add them to the collection in the meantime.
What does this mean for creators who have work on The Mass Effect Kink Meme?
Most fanwork fills on The Mass Effect Kink Meme were posted anonymously. All the anonymous fills will be imported to AO3 using the collection's archivist account. If the creator of a fill chose not to post anonymously, however, and if they have an email address listed on their Dreamwidth or LiveJournal profile, we will send an import notification to that email address.
We'll do our best to check for an existing copy of any works before importing. If we find a copy already on AO3, we will invite it to the collection instead of importing it. All fanworks archived on behalf of a self-identified creator will include their name in the byline or the summary of the work.
All imported works will be set to be viewable only by logged-in AO3 users. If you claim your works, you can make them publicly-viewable if you choose. After 30 days, all unclaimed imported works will be made visible to all visitors.
Please contact Open Doors with your LiveJournal or Dreamwidth pseud(s) and email address(es), if:
- You'd like us to import your works, but you need the notification sent to a different email address than you used on the original archive.
- You already have an AO3 account and have imported your works already yourself.
- You’d like to import your works yourself (including if you don’t have an AO3 account yet).
- You would NOT like your works moved to AO3, or would NOT like your works added to the archive collection.
- You are happy for us to preserve your works on AO3, but would like us to remove your name.
- You have any other questions we can help you with.
Please include the name of the archive in the subject heading of your email. If you no longer have access to the email account associated with your LiveJournal or Dreamwidth account, please contact Open Doors and we'll help you out. (If you've posted the works elsewhere, or have an easy way to verify that they're yours, that's great; if not, we will work with the Mass Effect Kink Meme mods to confirm your claims.)
Please see the Open Doors Website for instructions on:
- importing your works to AO3
- adding your works to the new collection The Mass Effect Kink Meme
If you still have questions...
If you have further questions, visit the Open Doors FAQ, or contact the Open Doors committee.
We'd also love it if fans could help us preserve the story of The Mass Effect Kink Meme on Fanlore. If you're new to wiki editing, no worries! Check out the new visitor portal, or ask the Fanlore Gardeners for tips.
We're excited to be able to help preserve The Mass Effect Kink Meme!
- The Open Doors team and Liara!Mod

They also showed me quite a few BTS videos, which I have to admit are fun. Also, I want to do flying yoga now. I can see the appeal of the fandom, too, which sounds wonderfully friendly. However, I think I'm too old to get into boybands, especially when they look *so* young (even though they are apparently mostly in their thirties, it doesn't show!), but also, the learning curve to catch up is one which I don't think I have the dedication for. I mean. They are learning Korean! So never mind.
Fellow fans, even if we don't share a fandom any more, are always welcome! I like showing off Norwich. Also, there is frequently cake.

Length: 31,803 words

Theme: Unreliable narrator
Summary: Izzy has spent years at Edward's side. The occasional petal here and there, the intermittent rasp that makes itself a permanent home in the hollows of his throat, the cough that comes and goes; it's all worth it, to be the person Ed turns to. It's a price he pays willingly.
Now, though. Now, Izzy knows what love looks like on Edward Teach, and it is soft and sweet and open and nothing like what Izzy has ever been able to give. Izzy's place is at Edward's side, and it's killing him.
That's okay. He's always wanted to die for something that matters.
Reccer's Notes: Izzy has hanakaki disease, and I love how the author writes it likes it's an almost chronic illness. Izzy is an unreliable narrator in how he thinks about Ed and Stede and their motivations. We as the reader can tell by their actions that their intentions are not what Izzy probably thinks, but Izzy's thought's are very much coloured by the experience he is going through and he's not seeing things for how they truly are, and of course he refuses to talk to Ed about his feelings and what going on, which only makes everything worse.
One note, this is canon-divergent after season one.

Jul. 5th, 2026 03:15 pmBut yeah, they were great to see, and great to get a Mikey fix :D Also, MCR performed Ambulance for the first time, so it was excellent to hear that live via various videos.
Bodhisitting didn't go as I expected on Friday. Well, it did to an extent in that we were there to nearly 1am which I had expected, but things for Kayleigh and Lucy were a bit of a clusterfuck.
Bodhi was no bother to look after, we took her out to get some stuff for tea, she ate, played, did a magic spell to try and make me move faster and asked why I had dusty toes ie, dry skin on my toes. Then finally fell asleep at 10pm.
At which point Kayleigh had messaged saying they were on their way back as she was in a load of pain and had to leave the concert after two songs. ( cut for medical stuff )
On a nicer note, we went to a cake shed yesterday. There are now four of them in the local area and by chance we passed the closest one to where we lived on Wednesday, but it was closed then. If you haven't heard of them, they're basically small sheds that are made to look pretty and placed outside private home. Then the home owners/bakers, bake cakes and stock them in the sheds for people to browse and buy on an honesty basis, though they do all have CCTV. It's all above board, with hygiene ratings etc and many have fridges inside so things like cheesecakes can be sold.
Anyway, the sheds only open on a weekend so yesterday we went to buy something. I got a white chocolate cookie and James a double choc cheesecake, and they were delicious. But, also a bit expensive so I can see the cake sheds being an occasional treat.
It's England v Mexico tonight and usually I'd be half watching the match, but no way will I be awake at 1am for kick-off. I do wonder how many people will take advantage of the pubs being allowed to stay open until 5am, and hope Corey doesn't have to work until then. What did amuse me this morning was an email and push notification from Greggs saying they're not selling their Mexican chicken range today. It's good publicity for them, but sucks for the people who want a tasty chicken sandwich.

I. OTW CODE OF CONDUCT
On June 7, 2026, Board approved a new OTW Code of Conduct. This policy comes as the result of months of collaboration between Board Assistants Team, Organizational Culture Roadmap, and Volunteers & Recruiting (including their Internal Complaint and Conflict Resolution subcommittee).
This policy update was a goal on the internal culture roadmap created and announced in 2024. As part of the update process, the policy underwent several rounds of review, including one by all OTW volunteers. Thank you to all OTW volunteers who provided feedback!
Volunteers & Recruiting is now at work rolling out the updated policy and getting agreements from all OTW volunteers.
II. ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN
In June, we celebrated AO3 reaching 11 million registered users. \o/
Accessibility, Design & Technology (AD&T) deployed several bug fixes, including quality-of-life and security improvements. They've also continued to make progress on their ongoing work to internationalize AO3.
Open Doors announced that Kraith Collected, a collection of Star Trek zines set in the Kraith universe, will be added to AO3. This month, their import assistants also finished importing all unfilled prompts from the Library of Moria!
In May, Policy & Abuse (PAC) received 4,814 tickets; Support received 4,125 tickets; and User Response Translation completed 77 requests from PAC and Support.
In June, Policy & Abuse worked with AD&T to publish updates to the Terms of Service FAQ, which includes new answers to common questions like how to find out what's allowed on AO3. You can view the differences here! We hope you find it helpful!
Tag Wrangling wrangled over 650,000 tags in May, or approximately 1,400 tags per wrangling volunteer. They also collaborated with Communications to publish a Tumblr post about updates to the Assassin's Creed fandom tree and a news post announcement of "No Fandom" changes, including 23 new canonicals.
III. ELSEWHERE AT THE OTW
Communications also established an OTW RedNote (小红书) account in June. This will be a second platform for us to connect with Chinese-speaking fandom (along with our existing Weibo account). If you use RedNote or know anyone who'd be interested in OTW announcements in Chinese on the platform, pass it along!
At the end of May, Fanlore wrapped up their Public Do-May, a public domain fandoms-themed month. They also ran their annual Bingo Challenge with tasty pastry-themed badges for editors to collect.
On June 15, 2026, TWC released Issue 48, a special issue on "Disability and Fandom" guest edited by Olivia Johnston Riley and Lauren Rouse. The essays in this issue focus on disability both as a marginalized identity and as a critical scholarly approach to fandom and fan studies.
IV. GOVERNANCE
Elections announced candidates for the 2026 OTW Board. This year's election will be uncontested, as there are three candidates running for four open seats. Platforms for each candidate can be viewed on the Elections website. They also provided the public an opportunity to submit questions to the candidates which will be published soon, refer to the Elections Timeline page for specific dates. Translation is working alongside Elections to make election-related content available in as many languages as possible.
Meanwhile, Development & Membership has begun working on premiums for the October Membership Drive.
Board, Board Assistants Team, and Organizational Culture Roadmap also continued to collaborate on developing procedures to handle compromised volunteer accounts and other situations that necessitate urgent access removal.
Board also approved signing-on to a letter opposing the overbroad NO FAKES Act, which could negatively impact fan art and artists.
V. OUR VOLUNTEERS
From May 24 to June 22, Volunteers & Recruiting received 204 new requests and completed 189, leaving them with 87 open requests (including induction and removal tasks listed below). As of June 22, 2026, the OTW has 1,037 volunteers. \o/ Recent personnel movements are listed below.

Me-and-media update
Jul. 5th, 2026 01:14 pmI've been relatively slack about masking lately (supermarket always; other public situations, it depends on how busy it is, how well-ventilated, and what quality of interaction I want to have). So far I've escaped unscathed. *knocks on wood* *tries not to pathologise my low-level tiredness*
Previous poll review
In the Reading speed poll, 55.8% of respondents estimate their reading speed as faster than average, which ha, is probably about right, or maybe on the low side given Dreamwidth's self-selection. One fifth of respondents went for "average", and 23.1% said "it would be faster if my so-called attention span didn't keep dropping out."
In ticky-boxes, raindrops (48.1%) came second to hugs (65.4%), followed by stripes waiting for a cat (44.2%). Thank you for your votes! ♥
Reading
Slowly listening to Borders of Infinity by Bujold, read by Grover Gardner with Andrew, mostly while doing the dishes.
The only thing I've read in text is a beginner story in Chinese about a stray cat who's found a home. It's sliiiightly above the "see Spot run" level, but not much.
Kdramas/Cdramas
We're watching the last two episodes of Miraculous Brothers tonight, and I'm really hoping it'll stick the landing. If it does, I might do a write-up. It's a good show, and I can see it appealing to people who aren't regular Kdrama-watchers too.
Still rewatching Love Scout with Pru. We're nearing the end.
And on my own, I'm watching The First Frost (Cdrama), which is pathologically repressed m/f roommates-to-lovers. Both of them are skittish for reasons, and I'm enjoying every tiny crumb of progress. I'm about halfway through. (Note: the leads are super pretty. There's probably AI-enhancement going on, blah, but I'm (thankfully) mostly oblivious to that and trying not to think about it.)
Other TV
Wow, it's been a month!! Not that we've been watching a huge amount, but still.
We finished Blocco 181 season 1 (gangs, drugs, interracial tension, m/m/f threesome), watched all of The Other Bennett Sister (really excellent! A+!) and The Tourist season 2 (Irish-Australian black comedy about a hitman with amnesia; season 1 is set in small-town Australia, and season 2 is set in Ireland), and have just started season 2 of Blocco 181 (so far plenty of gangs, drugs and interracial tension).
Sitcoms: Dinosaur (Glaswegian woman with autism and her sister), Fisk (socially awkward Australian and her law office), and People of Earth (support group for "alien experiencers," with Wyatt Cenac).
My sister and I are watching White Collar season 1, awwww.
Once we've finished Miraculous Brothers with our friend, I think we're going to try Legends (hapless customs agents vs drug traffickers in 1980s Britain).
Online life
I have five bursting-at-the-seams browser windows open, which is three too many. I'm going to give myself an amnesty and cull them. | Saw on Instagram a reference to Deepstash (socmed with factual content from books instead of AI slop). I think it was in an ad, though, so who knows? Anyone? It's paid, so I couldn't just give it a try. Not that I have time for another platform anyway. I'm already not quite keeping up with Dreamwidth (but almost). *waves to you all*
Writing/making things
I finished a flashfic (of the niche interest variety), and in the week since posting it have written approximately a dozen words of fiction, total. Like, I poked briefly at the "flashfic" I was writing before that, but mostly it's been rewatch comments and political submissions. Basically, writing and I are on a break. (But it's not long till
Life/health/mental state things
I got three political submissions in last week. The last one was just four paragraphs of yelling/scolding, but still.
I'm spending infinitely more time on my phone than I did pre-Chinese, and thanking the stars for my stylus. (Against the odds, I haven't lost it, but I did buy a back-up shaped like a pencil and another backup shaped like a ballpoint pen and incorporating a real ballpoint, a flashlight, and an alleged phone stand that doesn't work (but not a digital clock, because this isn't the 1980s) for $3.50 each, just in case.)
House/car
( State of car, storage/organising, and the oven saga continued. )
Language Learning
( Cut for length. )
Goals
One more political submission to go (graaaaar).
Get the oven in this year, and maybe re-carpet the living room(???).
Get my Chinese reading level up to Elementary by my birthday.

Video clip from The Sheep Detectives on the nature of God (Tumblr, via a friend) | I'm sure there were other things I was going to put here, but I really want to get this posted.
Good things
Reading in a new-to-me language (magic!). Biking weather. The gradual imposition of order on my house. Andrew, Halle, my sister, my friends. Hope for the upcoming NZ election (it could go either way, so there is room for hope). TV-watching dates. A wealth of Asian media.

Jul. 3rd, 2026 04:44 pmPairings/Characters: Jason Todd/Bruce Wayne
Rating: Mature
Length: 11,401 words

Theme: unreliable narrator
Summary: Jason always knew everyone would flip out when they found out about him and Bruce.
He just always assumed it would be more along the lines of Jason, you dirty whore you. Not whatever the hell this was.
Reccer's Notes: The best example of the "unreliable narrator" tag I've ever seen. Bruce's actions are unequivocally terrible, but because the fic is told from Jason's perspective and Jason genuinely doesn't believe there's anything wrong with their relationship you start questioning your own judgment too. Chilling. Absolutely amazing, but chilling.
Content Notes: discussion of past underage sex (adult with a child), rape/non-con, sexual abuse, incest

Releases 0.9.469 - 0.9.473: Change Log
Jul. 3rd, 2026 12:09 pmIn April, we deployed improvements to tag search and several security fixes. We also made some progress on making more parts of AO3 translatable. And of course, AO3 officially exited open beta in April as well!
In addition to the milestones above, we also had several new contributors to the AO3 codebase this month. Thanks and welcome to Aya Sayadi, bre-nana, Jesse Malark, kinnerapriyap, Kylie, and Ling-Yi!

Details
0.9.469
On April 2, we removed the "beta" note from our site header! End of an era.
0.9.470
On April 3, we deployed a quick security fix.
- [AO3-7372] - We made sure that when removing images from comments we didn't leave potentially dangerous HTML in their placeholders.
0.9.471
We deployed a couple more fixes related to image embeds on April 4.
- [AO3-7373], [AO3-7374] - We made sure that when we disable embedded images in comments, the restrictions can't be bypassed with creative HTML.
0.9.472
Our April 13 deploy included an improvement to our tag search and a bunch of other miscellaneous fixes.
- [AO3-7244] - We prepared the help pop-ups about our rich text editor and HTML mode for translation.
- [AO3-7283] - We added a configuration option for the number of shards that Elasticsearch data for pseuds and tags is stored in.
- [AO3-7293] - We added two more options to the Wrangling Status section of our Tag Search.
- [AO3-7326], [AO3-7327] - Your statistics page and your preferences page now have your username in the browser's page title!
- [AO3-7339] - The way we'd structured the translatable portions of our password reset emails wasn't compatible with future translation work, so we made sure the wording will work in different languages.
- [AO3-7348] - We removed the word "Archive" from the success message "You are now using the default Archive skin again!"
- [AO3-7355] - To build the dropdown menu for each user, we now only query the database once if the user has special permissions that require another menu item, and then save that information. Much nicer to the database servers!
- [AO3-7359] - When a site admin is viewing their two-step verification backup codes, there is now a button at the bottom of the page to copy the codes to the clipboard.
- [AO3-7360] - Updated a link on our Privacy Policy page.
- [AO3-7368], [AO3-7369] - The browser page title now reflects whether you're on the page listing our public site skins or public work skins.
- [AO3-7370], [AO3-7371] - Gem updates.
0.9.473
Another grab bag of fixes and improvements went out on April 24.
- [AO3-6229] - We now make sure the 404 Page Not Found error always looks like it's part of AO3, and not just a blank white page.
- [AO3-6281] - On pages listing gifts for recipients without an AO3 account, apostrophes in a recipient's name wouldn't be properly displayed. Now it all looks tidy.
- [AO3-6531] - On some works, if there were replies to a now-deleted comment, the whole comment section wouldn't load. We fixed the way we handle deleted comments in a thread, so everything should display as expected.
- [AO3-6604] - Admins can create banners (the informative blue, red, or yellow text boxes at the top of all pages) and save them for later, or delete outdated ones. It's now impossible to accidentally delete the banner currently in use.
- [AO3-7080] - If an account was suspended, we now make sure the email address associated with that account can't be used to leave guest comments.
- [AO3-7140] - When creating a draft work to eventually fulfill an assignment, the page listing your assignments would display some contradictory information about the status of your work. (Is it a draft? Was it accidentally posted?) The work title now contains the word "(Draft)" and we display the date it was created.
- [AO3-7165] - We now make sure you can pick a different site skin from the list of options in the footer even if you have disabled JavaScript.
- [AO3-7295] - We cleaned up some old code that would be unsafe to rerun now.
- [AO3-7322] - When a tag wrangler visits the tag wrangling assignment page, the filter selection now defaults to their name.
- [AO3-7333] - The page listing your challenge claims now has your username in the browser's page title!
- [AO3-7351] - If a character or relationship tag belonged to several fandoms (such as the book and the movie version of a franchise), and you entered all the applicable fandoms when posting your work, the character or relationship would show up several times in the autocomplete suggestions. The autocomplete has now calmed down a bit and won't show you duplicates of the same tag anymore.
- [AO3-7377], [AO3-7381] - Gem updates.
Round 188: Unreliable Narrator
Jul. 1st, 2026 09:17 am
Our theme for July is unreliable narrator!
An unreliable narrator is one you just can't trust—or shouldn't—whether you know it or not. They may be lying (to the text or to themselves), purposely withholding information, or just not in a position to fully appreciate the situation they're in because of a limited perspective, such as with child, animal, or object narrators.
The tag for this round is: theme: unreliable narrator
If you're just joining us, be sure to check out our policy on content notes. Content notes aren't required, but they're nice to include in your recs, especially if a fanwork has untagged content that readers may wish to know about in advance. For this particular theme, consider including notes for things like gaslighting or unreality (like Tumblr's fake Martin Scorsese movie, Goncharov).

these are my salad days
Jul. 1st, 2026 02:59 pmWell, I have found something miraculous, and I must share:it is truly the most comfortable bra I have ever owned. Happily I purchased three. They come from Conturve, which keeps popping up on my Instagram—I have a regrettable habit of clicking on Instagram ads, though I mostly refrain from actual purchasing. Anyway. I am a 40C or 38D or 42B, and the bra I got using the size charts fits beautifully, is very shapely, and I really don't notice it once it is on. Designed in England, made in China. So. Information for those in need.

Weather is much pleasanter this week, the kind of temperatures that can be dealt with by a summer dress or T-shirt and shorts, and by judicious use of curtains and window-opening. It appears there is more ridiculously hot weather ahead, but I shall count my blessings while I have them. I have harvested the first few delicious little courgettes, sweetcorns are burgeoning on their stalks, we have eaten a dozen or so mange tout pods, and there will be raspberries in tonight's fruit salad. Oh, and there are some tomatoes as well, including I think one I grew from the seeds of a fancy tomato I got at the local market. Though the beans are doing very little—only two appear to have germinated. Is it too late to sow more?

Air conditioning at the gym appears to be about par for Bannatynes, ie crap. I could hardly breathe in yesterday's Killer Yoga class, but happily, this morning's Tough Yoga was much more doable, and I could not actually wring out my headscarf afterwards.

It makes me happy when I see members of the Firefly cast working together. We are currently watching Resident Alien (Alan Tudyk is *so* good), in which Nathan Fillion plays #42.

Apparently our neighbour has just bought an electric car, and is coming round to have a look at our charger. Splendid. They are becoming increasingly common among chorus members, too.
Heated Rivalry: The same number of stars everywhere by Glittercity

Rating: Gen
Length: 2917
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: glittercity on AO3
Themes: Just like canon, LGBTQ+ canon characters, Hurt/comfort, Humor, In vino veritas
Summary: “Ilya?” Shane said in that same dreamy, loopy voice as that morning. Ilya exhaled in a rush.
“Shane,” he said, and wanted to sag against the glass with relief. “What happened? Is something wrong?”
“Not! Any moooooooore.”
Ilya swallowed. Shane hadn’t gotten any quieter in the past seven hours.
“Why are you calling me? You need to be resting,” he said, and it sounded softer than he’d meant it to.
“I forgot to tell you something. Important.”
“You should not be telling me anything, you should be—”
“My cottage has really good water pressure,” Shane announced.
Ilya stared out the window while a small plane taxied past.
“What?”
——————
Shane's cottage has a lot of amenities, and he needs to tell Ilya about all of them.
Reccer's Notes: This is a lovely, funny fic giving us more of "loopy on the good drugs" Shane from canon, after he takes the hit on the ice and is briefly in the hospital. Shane high on pain meds is adorable and Glittercity gives us more, as Shane tries to impress on Ilya how wonderful his cottage is, in the hope of persuading him to visit. Short, sweet and a favourite.

Updates to "No Fandom" Additional Tags, June 2026
Jun. 30th, 2026 10:34 pm
AO3 Tag Wranglers continue to test processes for wrangling canonical additional tags (tags that appear in the auto-complete) which don't belong to any particular fandom (also known as "No Fandom" tags). This post overviews some of these upcoming changes.
In this round of updates, we continued to adjust existing canonical "No Fandom" tags to add or remove new subtag and metatag relationships. We also continued to streamline creating new canonical tags, prioritizing more straightforward updates which would have less discussion compared to renaming current canonical tags or creating new canonical tags which touch on more complex topics. This method also reviews new tags on a regular basis, so check back on AO3 News for periodic "No Fandom" tag announcements.
None of these updates change the tags users have added to works. If a user-created tag is considered to have the same meaning as a new canonical, it will be made a synonym of one of these newly created canonical tags, and works with that user-created tag will appear when the canonical tag is selected.
In short, these changes only affect which tags appear in AO3's auto-complete and filters. You can and should continue to tag your works however you prefer.
New Canonicals
The following concepts have been made new canonical tags:
- Academic Rivalry
- AO3 Skins
- AO3 Site Skins
- AO3 Work Skins
- Birth Control Tampering
- Brat Taming
- Burping Kink
- Off-Screen Character Death
- Graphic Depictions of Childbirth
- Non-Graphic Depictions of Childbirth
- Implied/Referenced Childbirth
- Cover Art Welcome
- Fanart Welcome
- Podfic Cover Art Welcome
- Translations Welcome
- Dark Fluff
- Past Dubious Consent
- Implied/Referenced Eating Disorders
- Groveling
- Hypnosis Kink
- Graphic Depiction of Injuries
- Non-Graphic Depiction of Injuries
- Guided Masturbation | Masturbation Instructions
- Male Characters Masturbating
- Female Characters Receiving Oral Sex
- Male Characters Receiving Oral Sex
- Pregnancy Reveal
- Polycules
- Porn With Some Plot
- Canon-Typical Racism
- Reproductive Coercion
- Locker Room Sex
- Masked Sex
- Stealthing | Non-Consensual Condom Removal
- Stressed Characters
- Malesub | Male Submissive Characters
- Submissive Top Characters
- Title from a Song
Subtag/Metatag Revisions
Additionally, we continued to adjust existing canonical tags to add or remove new subtag and metatag relationships, which help users find related content and filter in/out content as they browse works on AO3.
- Angst and Drama is now a subtag of both Angst and Drama
- Family Drama is now a subtag of Drama
- Not Wearing Underwear has been removed as a subtag from Underwear
- Painful Sex is now a subtag of Pain
In Conclusion
While some of these tags may be tags and concepts you're intimately familiar with, others may be concepts you've never heard of before. Fortunately, our fellow OTW volunteers at Fanlore may be able to help! As you may have seen in the comments sections of previous posts, Fanlore is a fantastic resource for learning more about these common fandom concepts, and about the history and lore of fandom in general. For the curious, here's a quick look at a few articles about concepts related to this month's new canonical tags:
While we won't be announcing every change we make to No Fandom canonical tags, you can expect similar updates in the future about tags we believe will most affect users. If you're interested in the changes we'll be making, you can continue to check AO3 News or follow us on Bluesky @wranglers.archiveofourown.org or Tumblr @ao3org for future announcements.
You can also read previous updates on "No Fandom" tags as well as other wrangling updates, linked below:

For more information about AO3's tag system, check out our Tags FAQ.
In addition to providing technical help, AO3 Support also handles requests related to how tags are sorted and connected. If you have questions about specific tags, which were first used over a month ago and are unrelated to any of the new canonical tags listed above, please contact Support instead of leaving a comment on this post.
Please keep in mind that discussions about what tags to canonize and what format they should take are ongoing. As a result, not all related concepts will be canonized at the same time. This does not mean that related or similar concepts will not be canonized in the future or that we have chosen to canonize one specific concept in lieu of another, simply that we likely either haven't gotten to that related concept yet or that it needs further discussion and will take a bit longer for us to canonize it as a result. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Lastly, we're still working on implementing changes and connecting relevant user-created tags to these new canonicals, so it'll be some time before these updates are complete. If you have questions about specific tags which should be connected to these new canonicals, please refrain from contacting Support about them until at least three months from now to give us adequate time to do so.

Jun. 29th, 2026 05:05 pmWe didn't end up doing any longer day trips while he was off, because it was just too hot but did still go out every day.
Thursday we drove to Barnard Castle. Plan was to get some eggs from the honesty farm shop, but sadly they still haven't recovered from bird flu, so no eggs. We did get to eat sitting in the sunshine outside the artisan bread shop we like. But, they'd changed it to more of an artisan farm shop, so the range of bread was smaller, so the sour dough I'd intended to buy was already sold out. James also managed to fall over while we were taking a photo on the moors. If you saw the photo I posted on insta, just before that he stepped back into a dip on the ground and fell on his backside. Thankfully, falling behind the car and not to the side where he would have rolled down the hillside. He was fine, though.
On the way back from Barney, I picked up a waste not fruit and veg box from Durham. As always, the contents were great, only one lemon this time! with the only thing that's caused a 'what the hell do I do with this? was the celeriac. So, if anyone has any tried and tested recipes for the stuff, let me know.
I also got a waste not lucky larder box for the first time. They only cost £5 and are well worth it with a selection of cupboard goods and tins. Just, all the stuff in it suited me and not James. For example, spicy sauces, peanut butter and a dark chocolate Easter egg, all stuff he doesn't eat. My wtf reaction in this box was the ketchup and mustard sauce in a tube. Apparently it comes out stripy, but I haven't felt adventurous enough to try.
Friday we went to Metro Centre to watch Disclosure Day, which I quite enjoyed. It was that day we found out that Primark sell a range of adult adaptive clothes which is great.
Saturday we were back at Metro Centre to watch Supergirl, and also check out what was happening at FanFest. They had quite a few characters available for photos and various sets and models, plus, trading stalls, so I enjoyed mooching around those. I was amused when I was in Costa and Ironman wandered in needing a drink. Seeing him standing at the counter ordering a frappe was surreal, but I was even more amused when he couldn't actually hold the frappe due to his costume, and a minion had to hold it for him.
We had quite a few photos taken and if you're interested you can see some of them on insta here.
As for Supergirl I enjoyed it and, ( big spoilers )
Yesterday i was supposed to Bodhisit on the afternoon so had made no plans beyond the usual grocery shopping. But Kayleigh developed a bug that kept her off work, so I wasn't needed in the end.
Today it was class, and Rosie introduced sumo weighted walks D: There were options just to do normal squats but she pointedly said anyone doing this for a long time should give the walks a try, and fine, I can take a hint. I also jumped today doing the chair burpees, admittedly, not far, but my feet left the ground. I'll take that win.
Corey travelled to Liverpool today so he can go to the MCR concert tomorrow. This makes me happy.
I have one day to decide if I want to sign for fandomgiftbasket. I must ponder tonight. I've also caught up on DW, but couldn't go right back so I've missed something you think I should see, link me.
Hi. Have Some Plants!
Jun. 27th, 2026 05:39 pmWhich means I now am fundamentally required to produce plant photos under the cut.
( Not all of them but it should give you and idea of how my house is evolving into part plant )
These pictures are slightly out of date - I've rearranged a few things, started propagating cuttings from a couple of plants not shown, and added a pilea. This is... probably more than half of them. Surely? No, I'll not be checking. Especially since my favorite plant store lured me in with a freebie giveaway and discounts.

Alt: A cardboard lid/tray with young plants sitting on a chair. A hanging plant sits on the chair next to it. The plants include a philodendron, a rhipsalis, a peperomia, a dracaena, and an oak leaf cissus. The hanging plant is a lipstick plant that was on clearance and needs a little TLC.
The rhipsalis, cissus, and the freebie that I forget what it is are all destined to be hanging plants, which is what I'm ostensibly in the market for. The dracaena, philodendron, peperomia, and clearance lipstick plant are because I was unsupervised in a plant store.
Life updates?
Jun. 27th, 2026 01:34 pmI kind of miss longer-form writing/musing, and some of my Bluesky friends seem like they're trying to reinvigorate their use of this site, so maybe I'll give it a try too?
For all that haven't known what's up with me in the last... decade?... uh well I still own a great bookstore, I still have 2 awesome kids, and I still have 2 wives but not for much longer. One of my partners and I are breaking up with the other due to Many Reasons which I won't get into here, but it's been a long time coming. So I'll be getting divorced then probably getting married? IDK. It sucks. I don't recommend this process but I think it's what needs to happen.
My kids are 10 and 7 and both are neurodivergent with some pretty big support needs. They're brilliant and funny and wild and they take up soooooooo much time and energy. I love them and wouldn't have my life any other way, except I do feel bad for how many of my friendships I've let slide over the course of parenting and my business taking up all my life and time.
Last year I went and saw MCR in August with 3 of my best friends, and uh. I'm so back in this fandom. It's been a bright light during a hard year. We're seeing them again this August, here's hoping this leg of Gerard Way's Fetish Opera is just as thrilling as the previous two legs have been.
I'm now on tumblr for pretty much exclusively MCR reasons (
Sometimes I read books, too? Not so many lately but I'd like to write about reading more, so maybe this is a good place for that?
Anyhow, hi. How're you all. I miss you <3
too darn hot
Jun. 27th, 2026 02:48 pmSeriously. When I was a child, the weather forecast was "Will it rain today?" and about 50% of the time it was wrong.
Now, I can look at my phone and have an hour-by-hour note of the likely temperature, and whether it's likely to rain during that hour. My phone will tell me that rain will start, or stop, in seven minutes' time and it does!
It has made things a lot more efficient. Not that everything is necessarily running better, but at least we know what to expect. Gritting lorries are out the night before the snow is due—round here, they work really well. (One of the benefits of living on a reasonably busy and useful road is that the road is kept clear.)
Hereabouts, there have been heat warnings. The London ambulance service prepped for an increase in calls because of the heat, cancelling meetings, putting managers onto vehicles and extra staff into the call centres. They were ready for the 50% increase in calls that came. My chorus has cancelled the concert we were due to sing yesterday evening, when it was forecast to be in the 30s (and, indeed, was—in fact it was 27C at 11pm, groan), and will be performing it in September instead.
We got 36 degrees yesterday afternoon. That's almost 97F. This was not pleasant, but we were assured that the hall where we go for our dancing lessons will be cooler, and it was. Not cool, but bearable, so we quickstepped and cha cha cha'd and drank a lot of water. I put a half-full bottle of water into the freezer first thing, and it kept our drink nice and cold.
Travelling to and from the dancing lesson was probably the pleasantest part of the day, being in the car with the air conditioning on. Aah, coolth. The evening and night were unpleasant. No draught to be had. Still, I have survived, to face today, which is expected to hit a maximum of 31C (now). Sigh. It's 28 degrees here in the craft room because the windows face south, except the double doors which are getting it from the west, and the skylight cannot be curtained. But I have painting that needs to be done, so here I am.
And I can plan. Because the weather forecast, these days, is incredibly good.
Heated Rivalry: last one to leave the bleachers every time by anon

Rating: Gen
Length: 4585
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: the anon of "Home Economics" on AO3
Themes: Just like canon, Family, Missing scene, Domestic, Canon LGBTQ+ characters
Summary: They’d considered it—Shane being gay. It’d been an option. But Ilya Rozanov and the way Shane looks at him like he’s the love of his life has blindsided them. Blindsided both of them, and there’s almost nothing Yuna likes less than being blindsided.
She’s not mad, David wants to say. We’re so proud of you. We’re so happy for you. We just didn’t know.
Somehow we missed it, you falling in love.
or, what David Hollander and Ilya Rozanov talk about while Shane and Yuna are outside in episode six.
Reccer's Notes: This is anon's take on what Ilya and David Hollander talked about when Shane was outside with his mother, in episode 6 (The Cottage). There's actually not much dialogue--it's from David's POV and is largely about him coming to terms with the revelations, wondering about Ilya, and musing about Shane across the years. Imagery about hockey--one of the few things David has in common with Ilya--is woven through the story which is a lovely meditation and character study. Very much worth reading.
