Dear Internet,
I'm doing my final English project on canon compliant fanfiction in the Harry Potter Universe.
Of course, I will be citing actual fanfiction in this paper, all from fanfiction.net (tis a scary place, but I can navigate it pretty well).
For those of you who write fanfiction, no matter the genre (and for those who don't feel free to weigh in as well), if someone were to write about and cite your unpublished work in an academic paper, would you want me to get your permission first? I'm just unsure of the etiquette in this situation. Especially since our professor may want to try and publish our papers in a book of essays.

I heard on PotterCast that Jo said that Harry really isn't a horcrux even though Dumbledore said he is. Apparently she only said that he's a horcrux because it was easier to write it that way. Anyone care to clear this up for me?

Okay, I'm not sure what to do with this thought, so I'm curious what everyone thinks.
Dumbledore was a champion for the inescapable importance of love. For 7 books, love conquers all, love is the answer, all you need is love, insert Elephant Love Medley here. Love between family members, between friends, romantic love - all of it. And the only thing we know about Dumbledore's love life is that he was in love with Gellert Grindelwald, who was basically Hitler, and that this love caused Dumbledore to glaze over the major faults of the object of his affection, like a desire to create and army of Iferi and attack Muggles, and this love even persuaded to have some dangerous goals, like Muggle domination?
So I guess what I'm asking, is how do you wrestle with that? The champion of love being... sucked into some dangerous ground because of love? The man who has been promoting the idea that love makes you human, hit the lowest point in his life (that we know about anyway) because he was in love?
(if anyone is wondering what the hell I'm talking about google any combination of the words "Dumbledore" "Ontario" "JK Rowling" and/or "Gay")
(also, here's my little disclaimer because tone is hard to read in type- my issue isn't that he's gay, I mean- whatever, who cares about a proffesor's sexual orientation right? I'm just really curious about the situation that arises out of that information)

Attention all LJ Harry Potter fans!
The Harry Potter series has had a significant impact on our lives, providing us with a lot of pleasure and intellectual stimulation, and we are eagerly awaiting the final installment of the series. We have had discussions on how the book release is going to affect us (e.g., excitement, a sense of loss, etc.) and thought we should look at this on a larger scale. We decided to conduct a research study examining the impact of the release of “Deathly Hallows” on fans. We are interested in your feelings and thoughts both leading up to the book release as well as after you have read the book. As such, we have created a four part survey (e.g., Part 1 = 2-4 weeks before release, Part 2 = 1-2 weeks before release, Part 3 = after book completion, Part 4 = at least a week after completion). Part 1 of the study, which is the longest part (it should take approximately 10-15 minutes of your time), is now accessible at the following link.

*ahem* okay...i have an announcement for you all. i have broken my record of 567 bases in one post. i did more than break it...i DOUBLED it!!!! yes im completely psycho for doing it. took me three days but im very pleased with the end result. as usual its an overload of harry/hermione but of course everyone else is included. lots of the weasely twins, cedric/cho, and so on... the bases are not in order with the movie timeline, sorry! and towards the end its sort of a miscellaneous thing of posters, movie stills, and the like. if someone does not make unbelievable, kick ass, fantabulous harry/hermione icons out of these bases - im gonna come to your house and fish slap you! (yes that means i will slap you with a fish).
