My condolences to all friends of Nikilicious. I didn't know her personally, but the love she inspired in the fandom may become a tiny beacon for her husband and very young child. She was very much too young to leave us.
At school we had our own sad news today.
It's been known for a while now that one of my former pupils, a boy of 22, had advanced cancer.
He died on Saturday.
Michael was so full of life it is hard to think of him as gone. He did AS Theatre Studies with me and was a "regular" in musicals and plays, so that's how I think of him most. He was Deputy Head Boy, a First team rugby player (captain, I think, one year) and the sort of lad who was popular, reliable, good fun but sensible at need. He was good with younger kids, a sort of jolly uncle figure, almost. He will be much missed, and I ask you to spare a moment in your thoughts for his parents and his sister Aimee.
( A few pictures of him at his vibrant best )
On a completely different note, while looking for these pictures of Mike, I came across this one, of my tutor group on the day they started in the Sixth Form. In the middle is Jennie, power-house of drama, designed by fate to drive mad every teacher of every other subject. Some of you may recognise her, if you ignore the tongue stuck out, as Annie Miller in the BBC's
