Hello, everyone!  My name is Sarah, and I'm planning on going to the Gatecon in July 2010 in Canada.  I've only been to one convention in my life-DragonCon, so I'm wondering what the general atmosphere is like at the Canadian Gatecon.  What do fans do there?  Are there guest panels?  Do the actors/actresses have an area where they sign autographs?  Any response would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!  :)

We all know by now the devastation that Hurricane Katrina has reeked on the Golf coast. They need our help. So instead of buying a LJ paid account or some silly t-shirt from some online store, why not take that money and donate it? It doesn’t need to be a large amount of money. Ten dollars, fifteen dollars. It adds up if we all do it.

For information on how to donate or help in some way you can head over to THIS PAGE. It will give you numerous links; ways to donate and where to donate. There is also the Red Cross hotline set up specifically for this crisis: 1-800-help-now (1-800-4357-669)

Below the cut is the same list you will find at the above link. I've taken the time to list them and link directly to their official website (if official site exists, in some cases it is linked to a place to donate). The link above will have you donate through their site. This might be a good idea however, as I've had trouble visiting the Red Cross and Salvation Army websites; most likely due to a high traffic of people also trying to help.
(Please note many of these charities may have a $10 minimum for donating)

We have to be careful however; be sure you are giving to a credited charity. As crude as it may sound there will be people taking this opportunity to scam you out of money. You should also be sure to designate your donation, tell them you want it to go to the Hurricane relief. Love, support and prayers go out to all those effected by this terrible tragedy.

Edit: Just wanted to say I'm not trying to guilt people into donating. If you don't have the money, then you just don't have it. There are other ways to help. Go to your local Salvation Army for more information on how. You could donate clothing and basic health/hygene items for instance. You can go to your local Red Cross and donate blood for the injured even. I'm just saying; thousands of people have lost nearly everything they own, anything is better then nothing.

He-ey all!

Just a friendly email from the SGPA Board of Directors with a few questions for y'all.

After the changes in style & venue for Gatecon, we have decided to take a multi-fandom approach to the SGPA as well. We will definitely be represented [if not present] at Gatecon UK, as the C3 have been more than generous in supporting our little charity. If we have the time and finances [and I can't promise anything], we may also attend the as-yet-named con that Bill Wanstrom is putting on.

Updates to the website will be coming soon, as we work on getting everything updated and changed over to the new platform/layout.

But the main reason for this post is this....

Because we've chosen to go multi-fandom, we need your assistance. The past 5 years, we had squads based on the various characters on Stargate SG-1. Now, we're going to change that to having squads based on various scifi shows. So here's the question. What shows would you like to see represented by squads? Please let me know either in comments or via email. Once we have the basics set up, we will get more information sent out on the new deadlines and such for Gatecon UK.

Also, if you have any suggestions regarding either the SGPA itself or the website, please feel free to let us know that as well.

Is there anyone on this list who would be interested in rooming with me at Gatecon?  I really don't want to fork over 130 Canadian dollars for a single when a double is just as much.

I'm looking for serious interested parties, only.

So here's my SF seeks:

SF, preferably a Danny or a Jack fangirl (or both, mmmm).  You can expect long, rambling talks into the night about fandom vs canon, major fangirling, oogling and fondling of photos and the like.  :)  If you're a S/J shipper, please don't be a 'super shipper' and try to convert me from my D/J ways.

So I decided to answer bethyj's questions as my intro... Any other questions, just ask me....

1)What year was your favourite Gatecon Year and why? Just one? All of them...
2000 :: The very first Gatecon. Meeting Teryl. Meeting many of my friends. Getting the impetus to start up Stuffy Guard.
2001 :: First year volunteering. Who knew it would lead to becoming ChiefCameraChick? The first year for Stuffy Guard. In just 5 1/2 months, we managed to collect nearly 800 stuffies worldwide. And of course, there's also the memory of Peter Williams "interviewing" GeneralGeorge....
2002 :: Doubling the Stuffy Guard totals from 2001. Going NPO.
2003 :: Managing to collect 2003 stuffies in 2003 for Teryl, in response to the then-rumours of Fraiser's demise.
2004 :: 5th anniversary of Gatecon. Having to do the Stuffy Guard presentation to Teryl by myself. How nervewracking!!!
2)Who had been your favourite guest? Just one? Teryl... And JR, Don, Amanda, Corin, Peter Williams, and so, so many others... They all have their high points...
3)What has been the best thing you brought back? The memories and the friendships.
4)Who was the best freind you made there? You mean I have to choose just one? There are far too many, including but not limited to :: Auntie QS, Sekh, Becky, Mumsey, Bx, the entirety of the stage crew [so I don't miss any names accidentally], wiliqueen, stef94, esther75, </a></b></a>shatterpath [tho' I knew her before GC], Ladytree, Wolfpac, Fryn, Richard, Allan, Sue, </a></b></a>neoma1276, </a></b></a>adele_t....and many, many more....
5)What is your most treasured memory from it? Seeing the looks on the faces of the kids when they see the stuffies we've collected for them....

Ah yes memories. This picture was taken around...oh...4 or 4:30am. That's the time you needed to get up and downstairs to get in the front of the line! CRAZY! But it's due to getting up so early that I got such great seats and thus pictures this past year.
