This is a place for people approaching forty or in their forties to hang out with their peers.

... these are all issues that can and should be discussed here, however this is a shared place that doesn't belong to any one person, therefore, we hope that common sense will prevail and that all members will treat each other and this space in a respectful manner.
To that end:

ALL Posters/members of fortysomething are strongly encouraged to place entries that are lengthy (30 to 35 lines long) behind an LJ-CUT.

ALL Posters/members of fortysomething are strongly encouraged to place large images or images containing nudity or items that might be deemed "not safe for work" behind an LJ-CUT.

ALL Posters/members of fortysomething are strongly encouraged to use common sense when posting items in the community. Items of an offensive, degrading or immoral nature are not welcome here and will be removed as soon as a maintainer can do so.

ALL Posters/members of fortysomething are strongly encouraged to not screen comments as this could be viewed as negative and drama inducing.

Posters/members who make the kind of entries as described above without using the LJ-CUT feature may be subject to receiving negative replies to their posts asking them to "Use an LJ-CUT!" .. realize that failure to use the LJ-CUT feature can lead to you being considered someone who is unnecessarily cluttering this shared space, and you may very well be called on it. The best way to avoid such "drama" and having your feelings hurt is to always err on the side of consideration and use the LJ-CUT.

Finally, please do NOT post JOKES, e-mailed "memes", internet-generated quiz results or "memes" in the community ... those are best left for your own personal LJ’s. There is however ONE exception to the no "meme" rule and that is the Fortysomething Friday Four™.

fortysomething is a "closed community" for a variety of reasons. In order to join the community you must submit a request HERE. Preference is given to users who are paid members, who have their entire birthdays (including BIRTH YEAR) in their profiles and who have been LJ users for more than 24 hours.. a few months is acceptable. Having a few friends and more than 1 public entry helps as well. If you haven't posted an entry in more than a month you probably won't be approved. Once your request HAS been approved then please feel free to jump into the conversation and feel free to make an entry introducing yourself. Contrary to popular belief us old folks don't bite ... much. If you need to contact a maintainer to discuss why you were not approved then please use the LJ messaging service.
