Shadowbound
Hi everyone! I have just published my first novel on amazon so am shamelessly trying to raise some awareness! The prologue is free on my LJ page. If anyone was to take a look and feel interested I would be happy to send them a free copy in return for a review on amazon.

Allesha remembered when dying was the worst of her problems. Just six months ago, she had come to terms with the fact that she would be fortunate to reach twenty seven, and the bitterness of it had threatened to consume her. That was before. Now that her eyes were opened those same predictions took on a mocking hue, because the doctors had it wrong; her disease might still advance, creeping through her bones with painful malice but that hardly mattered. It would not be that which killed her. (continued on LJ)

Trapped in the Middle
Genre: Romance, drama, humor, supernatural...

Summary: Depressed and disillusioned with the world, Cloy prefers his solitude. One day on his way home from work he rescues a strange girl who turns out to be a goddess. She rewards him with the gift of healing, but a special ability like that doesn't go unnoticed. It won't take long until a professor bent on proving her paranormal theories and other less benevolent gods get interested in the new favorite. It seems that they all have an agenda of their own... and what's that about the Titans?

Hey all!
This is my first crack at writing a really long original story instead of just some scribbles. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Title: Trapped in the Middle
Chapters: None yet, this is a teaser.
Genre: Romance, drama, humor, supernatural...
Warnings: None really. Might be later on.
Summary: One day on his way home from work Cloy rescues a strange girl, who turns out to be a god of light, an angel. She wants to reward his kindness with the gift of healing but warns him that no one should ever learn about his new ability. It won't take long until other, less benevolent gods learn about this new favorite in the human realm. Also a professor bent on proving the existence of divine beings starts to get interested in him after a small incident in a café.

It was terrifying. I saw it all happen.Collapse )

If you liked this little teaser please friend my writing journal BERJAYAcrystales_dm and you'll see the chapters as they come out!

A young man's journey to his life which he can't
Hello people. I just started  this to know if I'm making sense. I'm kind of unusual and I don't really know why. I want to know what you think about anything I'm telling you cause I'm such a confused being.

Please read my post, and help me change my life.
This is it.

Just a little holiday reminder
I try to make this reminder around the holidays. Most of the writers on here are either published or hope to be published. What better way to boost the economy, help your own writing, and make life easier for your friends and family than by asking for a magazine subscription or two?

Small presses can really use your support. As some of you know, Realms of Fantasy closed down not too long ago because it could not afford to stay open. Damnation books has bought the magazine but I fear its fate will be the same if it does not get more subscribers. I'm sure there are plenty more magazines out there suffering the same fate (paper and online).

So, whether you write genre fiction or literary fiction or mainstream fiction, ask for a subscription. If a magazine is free online, it probably could use financial support and memberships usually have perks. Remember, without markets, where will we sell our work?

Also, if you know someone who likes to read short fiction, consider gifting a subscription. Now that is a gift that gives all year round!

Five Short Stories on Japan's Robot Future
Hey guys!

I've written a suite of five science fiction stories for my creative honours  at the University of Technology Sydney
-- its the first online creative honours project to be submitted at UTS, and I'd love to invite you to be a part of it.

The stories explore the experiences of five different kinds of robots in aged care, childcare, information service, the sex industry and traditional robots. All the five stories are blogs (five or six short posts each), accessible from the main page here:

http://cargocollective.com/humanrobotrelations

To get to the stories from the main page, click one of the five robots, then follow the link on the blurb page (Click "See My Story" at the bottom of each blurb).

I only have another two weeks before I submit, so it would be great if you guys could read these and leave some comments in the blogs!
The idea was that the readers would be able to interact directly with the characters.

Thanks guys! Hope to see your comments and contributions!

Writers Group, Eugene Oregon?
I'm hoping to start/join a fantasy and science fiction writers critique group in Eugene, Oregon for meetups every two or three weeks. I have one lead so far, but nothing has panned out. I usually find a group of three of four regulars is perfect. I'm aware of the Wordos but would like to be in a group that lacks their strong emphasis on traditional publishing.

If you're potentially interested in such a group or have a friend who might be, or if you're in such a group and could use a new member, please let me know! Thanks!

A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan
Title: A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan
Author: BERJAYAsennalily // (AFTG) to-jovan.net
Length: ongoing serial
Rating: PG
Genre: Fantasy, adventure, political drama
Summary:

The story of two royal brothers. Valentin is 34, a politician and diplomat with a fondness for fortified wine and a dark secret which led the brothers to be exiled to opposite corners of the empire for seventeen years. Cassius is 31, and a sometime commander of the Imperial Army: far too willing to follow Valentin's lead, and with a decided preference for the company of men. When their elder brother the Emperor dies suddenly, his daughter, the young Empress, recalls her uncles to the capital, but discovers that they are more useful (and less trouble) at large, where they face traitors, tyrants, bandits, femmes fatale and perhaps gain absolution for the crime that they committed seventeen years ago.

Website Updated Again
I (finally!) updated my website. Sorry I was lax on this, no excuse. Mea culpa.

But I've got lots of new stuff on there, new links for writers, some new editorials, and a brand new sample story "Sailing Through Changpi" which was first published by Continuum SF in 2004. Hope you like it!  :)

Genre: Romance/Supernatural/Fantasy

I would really appreciate it if someone would give me some constructive criticism. I am not very sure what's wrong exactly... But I spent a lot of time on it and I would like to hear some opinions. Thank you! :)

Writing snippet - concrit please?
I'm intending this to be part of my main characters' religion. What do people think?

..................................................

And apart from all others is sly, cunning Rienne.

Shifter. Changer. Many-formed.

Light and darkness. God and demon. Destroyer and creator. Man and woman.

We do not worship her, she who was our mother and our father. We do not curse her, she who shattered the sky and filled the world with monsters. We do not forget her: sly, cunning Rienne, the Breaker and the Builder, the Seducer, the Mother of Myriads, the Shining Liar, brilliant lord of all the stars.

An Idea I have been working on. Any thoughts?

Some houses are like great gothic novels, complex and confusing, a refuge to hidden emotions. Their presence seems to weigh heavily upon all who enter. Conversation is always in a whisper. Old houses, after all have ways of hearing. Candlewycke was just such a house. It sat quietly, with a physical air of solitude on a small hill overlooking a meandering river at the other end of the bridge. The river had a name and like all rivers belonged to many areas. It had a history of its own but none of that is important. The river, as far as the house was concerned was simply a barrier separating the town from the woods. It may has well have been a medieval mote. The bridge however had no name, at least none anyone could remember. It was simply the bridge and it crossed the river at a narrow point following a line that ran from the heart of town to Candlewycke. Few people bothered to cross that bridge. The only thing on the other side of the river was the old house and the woods. Over the years photographers came from the city to take pictures of the fall foliage and the quaint buildings that made up the little town and of course photographs of the bridge. It could have been a historical treasure. Few covered bridges have survived the passing of time and none were as singularly impressive as this one. Oddly enough, the photographers never seemed to get around to taking any pictures at the bridge and when asked later, could only respond with a curious shrug of the shoulders. They simply didn’t know why.

Libromancy
Greetings, all! This is my first time writing something that's not fanfiction, so be gentle. This story has been bubbling around in my head for over ten years now, and I am only just getting around to writing it down. This is just the current draft of the first chapter, and I am eager for feedback. Constructive criticism is welcome. I want it to be as perfect as I can make it before I start thinking about publishing.

Libromancy is the story of Cassie Clarke, a seventeen-year-old girl who loves nothing better than a good book, and wants nothing more out of life than to write. When she is selected to attend a progressive school for girls who want to become writers, under Headmistress Mrs. Pershing, who is herself a well-known author, Cassie is ecstatic. But her feelings quickly change when strange things start happening. Girls vanish, flowers bloom in winter, the moon rises full three times in one month and not at all the next, and Cassie is no longer receiving letters from home. And then there's the question of who or what lives in the cellar under the school.

Thees and Thous
Hello! I'm Anita, and, uh, I'm new (is it just me, or are introductions always awkward?). I have a couple of questions for the community, and I'd like your perspectives as both readers and writers of fantasy.

In English, only the formal forms of the second person pronouns are in common usage, "you," "you," and "your." We don't often encounter the familiar/informal forms "thee," "thou," and "thy/thine," except in older works and sometimes religious texts.

My questions are these:

As readers, do you like to see the familiar second person pronouns, the thees and thous, in fantasy stories? Do you find those forms distracting, or do they add to the depth of meaning you get when you read? Does it depend on how the writer uses them?

As writers, do you ever use the familiar pronouns? If you do, when and why do you use them? If you don't, why not?
