Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
| Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
|---|---|---|
|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection). After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to remove obvious vandalism.
Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level
Request a specific edit be made to a protected page
Request the non-urgent protection of multiple pages that do not require immediate administrator attention

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – See Wikipedia:Administrator's noticeboard/Incidents#Editors engaged in Proxying and Meatpuppetry to circumvent deleted article. Electricmemory (talk) 17:01, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
- See also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ichafu (headdress) (2nd nomination). Long running issue of foreign-language-speaking socks LLMing either false/madeup dictionary definitions or sometimes whole articles into being. Electricmemory (talk) 21:59, 16 May 2026 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Dr vulpes (Talk) 04:00, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Frequent changes to birthdate information despite tooltip note in Lead, invisible message in editing window saying not to change it, and respective consensus established from extensive discussion on article talk page. Pikkupapupata 💌 🌷 01:48, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Dr vulpes (Talk) 04:01, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Temporary page vandalism surrounding a potential move to managing Chelsea F.C. Club has not yet confirmed this, even though there's reporting on it elsewhere [1]. My understanding is that Wikipedia doesn't update football manager roles until they've taken the helm. Dode222 (talk) 03:13, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – there has been lots of vandalism over the past few weeks by unregistered editors. page has a history of edit warring and vandalism so an indefinite protection may be useful. Milkk7 (talk) 13:06, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

- (Non-administrator comment) Not vandalism. Edit warring. SuperPianoMan9167 (talk) 18:13, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Dr vulpes (Talk) 19:43, 17 May 2026 (UTC)- @Docktuh or @SuperPianoMan9167, if it gets too disruptive please rerequest. You can tag me in the request if you want. This was kind of borderline in my opinion. If another admin disagrees please ignore me and go ahead and protect. Dr vulpes (Talk) 19:44, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Reason: This page has been protected in the past due to high views and high levels of vandalism or bad good faith edits by temp accounts/IP editors. Recently has had a number of such edits that have needed reverting. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 19:21, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Question: @GeogSage, can you point to what edits are disruptive or incorrect? I'm looking at the most recent changes and the edits just look like small updates or changes. Sorry I'm not an expert on this and just need a little more information. Dr vulpes (Talk) 19:25, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- In the past it is mostly related to the first line, which there was some of that. I saw an editor had to revert several edits made in rapid sequence here, and that was immediately followed by several additional edits. These latest changes include removed template for Template:Efn, but scatter changes across several small edits so it is hard to see what is being done. Previous edits needed to be reverted because of broken links. The page averages over a thousand views per day, but historically will spike in popularity, as you can see here. Not sure how to separate vandalism from good faith poorly executed edits, but the page has had issues in the past, and seeing a lot of edits today needing to be reverted by other editors makes me think it is a persistent problem. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 20:19, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Recent edits include the latest temp account editor changing the dialect to British English, violating MOS:RETAIN. Edit summary states, "British English must be used in case of any international viewers." Most sources are in American English on this topic, and that is what the article was already in. A I notified them on their talk page with the appropriate template, tagged the talk page, and asked them to self revert. I believe this is a new editor acting in good faith that is still figuring out the ropes, but again, not first time we've had issues on the page due to high volume and controversial topic, Just the first time we've had this specific problem. GeogSage (⚔Chat?⚔) 01:14, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Dr vulpes (Talk) 04:03, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Reason: This article has been repeatedly vandalised by an IP editor adding potentially libellous and totally unsourced content. I request an indefinite period of page protection to hopefully deter this person from continuing this behaviour. Anxioustoavoid (talk) 22:32, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Temporary accounts are persistently adding content in violation of WP:CRYSTAL, specifically they are stating there is a leadership election this year when I don't think that has been announced. Qwerty123M (talk) 22:37, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: AfD being flooded with single purpose account edits from anon IPs. LibStar (talk) 00:32, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not an administrator but I don't think that page requires protection as the discussion page has not been receiving an overwhelming amount of responses in quick succession, it is true that more responses have been received but that is the point of a deletion discussion, to gauge different opinions on notability regarding articles, the current amount of responses won't make the closer's job more difficult. These editors seem to have a grasp of Wikipedia editorial policies, we should not be in the business of shutting out legitimate opinions. Pages like this for discussion usually have additional guidelines for protection as articles are more vulnerable to vandalism being seen. Qwerty123M (talk) 02:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- @LibStar. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If there's a flood of new accounts or temporary accounts all posting nearly the same thing most admins will just ignore it when they close at AfD. Dr vulpes (Talk) 03:58, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Dr vulpes (Talk) 03:58, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Continued targeted vandalism, it has only been two days since page protection expired and previously inactive accounts have made edits and IPs have targeted this page already. Requested action : Temporary semi-protection.
Reason: Since the pilot came out a few days ago, the page has experienced a persistent level of disruptive editing (e.g., uncited/factually dubious material, vandalism) from TAs. As the pilot already has 8 million views, and with how crazy Glitch fans can be, protection should be longer than the 2-4 days/1 week duration usually given to pages of recently released media. Under the heading "Legal issues", it immediately introduces the killing of Celeste, titled "Discovery and investigation". However, at a glance, it isn't clear what exactly was discovered. Maybe there could be a short introduction telling someone what the following was about? TheVectoriser 19:50, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
Not done - You are not blocked by the semi-protection on Talk:D4vd and should make an edit request there. I would suggest that you be more specific in your request over there if you do, however; this is too vague to act on. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v MUSHROOM 20:47, 17 May 2026 (UTC)

Remove sentence: "Zionists wanted to create a Jewish state in Palestine with as much land, as many Jews, and as few Palestinian Arabs as possible.[4][5][disputed – discuss]". Vague, general, patently untrue. You can change to "Some Zionists" (which is arguably what is supported by references). To use "Zionists" you would have to show that it was an essential feature of ZIonism that you have as few Arabs as possible. This is not supported by the literature.
