Welcome to my talk page I use the name Cullen328 on Wikipedia, but you can call me "Jim" because that's my real first name. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" or "Add topic" at the top of this page. I keep the old comments from July and August of 2009 that follow the "Contents" here, because these friendly words of greeting made me feel welcome when I first started editing Wikipedia.
The importance of a friendly greeting
Hello and welcome to my talk page. If you want to start a new conversation, please click "New section" at the top of this page. I keep the comments that follow from July and August of 2009 readily visible, because these friendly words of greeting made me feel welcome here on Wikipedia when I first started editing. Please offer your thoughts
I would appreciate comments and suggestions on any contributions I make. I am learning.Cullen328 (talk) 03:22, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Nice work on Jules Eichorn. He's been needing an article for a while. Will Beback talk 06:28, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- If I may suggest, now that you've posted the Eichorn article the draft below might be deleted. It's your talk page to do with as you like, but it's a bit hard to edit around.
- As for formatting and pictures, a good way to learn is to look around at other articles to see what you think looks best. It can be helpful to break up long blocks of text into subsections. Perhaps it'd be possible to split the biography into two or three eras. Other than that, the formatting is usually kept fairly plain. As for photos, it's easy to upload them: the trick is in finding photos with appropriate licensing. If you have any personal photos then those'd be fine. There are might be pictures of the peaks he did first ascents on in the Wikicommons. File:Cathedral Peak.png is a so-so pic of Eichorn Pinnacle.
- As before, feel free to ask if you have any questions. There are several editors here who are mountaineers or just admirers of the Sierra, so you're in good company. Will Beback talk 21:13, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- PS: Many editors create "sandbox" pages for drafting articles. For example, User talk:Cullen328/Sandbox. Will Beback talk 00:17, 1 August 2009
Your climber biographies
Hey Jim, just wanted to say welcome and thanks for your contributions to the Sierra Nevada climbing history articles. You're filling a niche that's been missing here, I look forward to working with you. --Justin (talk) 11:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- I'll second that. Nice work on Allen Steck and welcome to Wikipedia. I don't know who you are planning to write up next but if your taking requests I think Peter Croft (climber) could really use a page. If you ever have any questions please ask. Thanks again for your great additions.--OMCV (talk) 02:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Justin and OMCV. I am beginning work on Tom Frost and Glen Dawson. Comments on Norman Clyde would be welcomed. I will defintely read up on Peter Croft, OMCV. I am still "learning the ropes" in Wikipedia, to use a climbing analogy, and have all sorts of things in mind. My biggest challenge right now is getting permission to use images. My next biggest challenge is hiking to the top of Mt. Whitney with my wife in ten days - she's never been above 12,000 feet except for the train ride up Pikes Peak. As she's 56 and developing arthritis in her toes, it will be an accomplishment if she (and I) complete the Class 1 feat. Jim Heaphy (talk) 02:34, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Debra and I made it to the summit of Mt. Whitney at 2:20 PM on Friday, September 11. Jim Heaphy (talk) 00:59, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

sharing with you and your sister -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:40, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, Gerda Arendt. My sister flew to Salem, Oregon to visit my brother who is also in poor health, and I drove there with my wife and son to visit the two of them and other relatives. So, I was with my sister when I got your message. She was touched by your thoughtfulness. We listened to several of Elgar's Enigma Variations together and enjoyed them. It was a special moment. Question from CommaGarden (04:01, 22 June 2026)
[edit]Hi Jim,
I made a copyedit to the Background section of the Cross-device tracking article to address essay-like tone: diff.
I tried to preserve the existing claims and citations while making the prose more encyclopedic and neutral. Does this look like a reasonable scope for a suggested tone cleanup, or should I make smaller edits in the future? Thanks. --CommaGarden (talk) 04:01, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, CommaGarden. I think that your edit was just fine. The choice of whether to make one large edit or several small edits is a bit subjective. In general, if your edits are likely to be controversial, keep them small. And if the changes involve a variety of different things, it is best to keep them separate. On the other hand, some editors object to lots of small edits. If someone objects, do your best to try to work things out with them. Cullen328 (talk) 07:13, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
Hello mentor :) Just starting out after YEARS of reading. Could you take a look at my contributions and tell me what you think? Appreciate it. --Gmattar (talk) 02:08, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Gmattar. Your contributions to date look positive to me. Thanks, and keep up the good work. Cullen328 (talk) 07:41, 25 June 2026 (UTC)

why did you substitute different text for my signature on Teahouse?
[edit]I am puzzled by this edit: . M kuhner (talk) 14:50, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, M kuhner. I apologize for that error. I was trying to copy your username to ping you in my response, and accidentally pasted in a phrase from my clipboard. I was editing on my phone and didn't notice the error. I am very sorry about that. Cullen328 (talk) 16:02, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- No problem! I figured it was something random like that as you're an experienced editor. M kuhner (talk) 16:57, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
Question from NestOfGhost (18:29, 28 June 2026)
[edit]If i made an account without an email then forget the password, is it lost forever? Like is there someone i can contact? (im sorry if this is not the right forum) --NestOfGhost (talk) 18:29, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- Pretty much so. As you wouldn't have provided any way to recover your account, the password would be the only way to get into your account. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 18:34, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- The only other option I can think of where you could reset your password without an email attached to your account is WP:CID. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 18:39, 28 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Prothe1st That would work if I had it set up. thanks anyway :/ NestOfGhost (talk) 00:00, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- NestOfGhost, editors who have lost access to an account sometimes create a new account with a similar user name. Another option is to add a notice to your new userpage stating that you previously edited under that earlier name. Or do both. Cullen328 (talk) 00:05, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- yeah that's what I'm doing rn (my og was NestOfGhosts). I should probably add my old name to my profile. Thanks for the advice :) NestOfGhost (talk) 00:08, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
- Been there, done that! If you look at User:Narky Blert (small box) and User:Narky Blert (alt) (big banner), you can see how I cross-linked them. Narky Blert (talk) 07:18, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

- Nobody owns a Wikipedia page - see WP:OWN. You might also want to read WP:CIVIL and take note not to hurl insults at other editors, or you'll find yourself completely blocked, not just blocked from the article for which you have a clear conflict of interest. 10mmsocket (talk) 01:32, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

You're invited to the Mentorship noticeboard
[edit]Hi, Cullen. You are cordially invited to the brand new Wikipedia:Mentorship noticeboard. I get the impression sometimes that we mentors are each toiling in our own cubbyhole or hamster wheel, quietly answering mentee questions with little to no interaction with other mentors. (At least as Teahouse hosts, we rub shoulders occasionally.) I think mentors have a lot to share and learn from each other, and I know it will make me feel better just having the opportunity to interact with you and other mentors there, and I hope it will for you, too. Look forward to seeing you there! Mathglot (talk) 06:52, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Happy 4th of July, sir!
[edit]

Colman2000 (talk) is wishing you a Happy 4th of July! On this day, we recognize our independence from Great Britain with the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which ultimately paved the way to our freedom. Celebrate this day in many different ways, such as hosting a barbecue, watching baseball games, or even attending a fireworks show! Happy Independence Day, fellow American!

Question from Thecubediamond (19:38, 7 July 2026)
[edit]Hello! how do i add timezones and OK TMO ID to Russian rural locality infobox? --Thecubediamond (talk) 19:38, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Thecubediamond. I have no expertise in working with time zones and do not know what OK TMO ID means. But I have two suggestions. First, read the documentation for the specific infobox template. Secondly, examine the source code for a similar article that does this right, and try the same technique in the articles you are working on. Cullen328 (talk) 20:03, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

If you meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria, someone else will probably create an article about you eventually. Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged: we want biographies here, not autobiographies.
Please read that entire content guideline carefully. Please also read the Notability guideline for authors. Only a small percentage of published authors qualify. Also read Your first article. It is very difficult for a new Wikipedia editor to write an acceptable article, especially when they have the most serious conflict of interest imaginable - writing about yourself. Question from Indagator architecturalis (09:04, 19 July 2026)
[edit]hello Jim,I am new to editting Wiki and should like guidance how to communicate with the original authors of 2 articles (one in English, another in German) about George HE Jeffery, an architect I have been researching. Because of his 2 careers as Architect then Public Conservationist, I wondered whether 2 separate sections of the article about him would be more appropriate. Look forward to hearing from you. --Indagator architecturalis (talk) 09:04, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, Indagator architecturalis. Using the Page information tool, I can see that the original author in 2016 was User:Shirazibustan who contributed about 11% of the content. A Cypriot editor, User:Κυπρομέδουσα, has contributed about 55% of the content, and you are second with about 26%. Both of those editors are still active on Wikipedia so you can discuss your ideas for restructuring the article with them. The three of you are clearly more interested in this article than anyone else. Cullen328 (talk) 09:20, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
hello how to make a new wiki page? --清清斋 (talk) 09:48, 19 July 2026 (UTC)

Please read Your first article and let me know if you have any specific questions. Cullen328 (talk) 17:54, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
