User:Rehman
Hello and welcome to my userpage!
Hi, I’m Rehman. I was born in Manama, Bahrain, and now live in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I have been an active contributor to Wikimedia projects since 2008, with a focus on renewable energy, infrastructure, and Sri Lankan geography—reflecting my interests in solar and wind power, dams, rivers, and environmental documentation. Much of my work on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons centres around these topics. Beyond editing articles, I am deeply involved in technical and community work. I develop and maintain Wikidata-driven infoboxes, navigation templates, and other tools, including being the main contributor to the Infobox Power Station. I am an administrator on both the English Wikipedia (since 2016) and Wikimedia Commons (since 2011), where I support content moderation, policy enforcement, and community workflows. I also created Commons’ Criteria for Speedy Deletion (CSD) to improve administrative efficiency. I founded and lead the Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka (UG-LK), working across Sri Lanka’s three main language groups to support outreach, organise photowalks, run Wiki Loves Earth contests, and promote Wikimedia participation nationwide. Our projects, including long-term environmental photography initiatives, contribute millions of page views each year across 140+ wikis. Outside Wikimedia, my professional background includes stock market, banking, renewable energy, cybersecurity, and knowledge management. My personal interests include cycling, hiking, travelling, photography, stargazing, community outreach, and building computers. If you are passionate about topics related to Sri Lanka, or would like to contribute more actively, consider joining UG-LK or our mailing list, Wikimedia-LK. We welcome editors of all backgrounds and skill levels. If you ever need confidential assistance, including help dealing with harassment or cyberbullying, feel free to contact me privately—I'm always happy to help where I can.

Today's motto... → If you don't turn them over to the MPs this minute, I - I'm going to resign my commission! Today's Featured ArticleThe Diaspora Revolt (115–117 CE) was a series of uprisings by Jewish diaspora communities across the eastern Roman Empire during the reign of Emperor Trajan. The uprisings erupted nearly simultaneously in Egypt, Cyrenaica and Cyprus, amid tensions following the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, the imposition of the Fiscus Judaicus tax, messianic expectations, hopes for a return to Judaea, and Trajan's engagement with the Parthian campaign in Mesopotamia. Roman forces under generals Marcius Turbo and Lusius Quietus suppressed the revolts. The conflict resulted in the destruction of Jewish communities in multiple regions. Damage to temples, structures and roads is well attested in Cyrene and its surroundings. A festival celebrating victory was still observed eighty years later in Oxyrhynchus. Jewish communities re-established themselves in the affected provinces in late antiquity, but never regained their former prominence. (Full article...)

Picture of the DayThe West Indian whistling duck (Dendrocygna arborea) is a species of bird in the family Anatidae. The largest and darkest of the whistling ducks, it is roughly the size of a mallard, growing to 48 to 58 centimetres (19 to 23 inches) in length. Widely scattered across the West Indies, the species was first formally described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758 as Anas arborea, based on earlier accounts. The species is now placed in the genus Dendrocygna, introduced by William Swainson in 1837, and has no recognised subspecies. This photograph shows the head of a West Indian whistling duck in George Town, on the island of Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.
