Paulo César Díaz Huincales (Latin American Spanish: [ˈpawlo ˈði.as] born 25 August 1994), known as Paulo Díaz, is a Chilean professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Major League Soccer club Atlanta United and the Chile national team.[3]

Club careeer

Díaz spent seven seasons with Argentine giant River Plate from 2019 to 2026. On 14 July 2026, he signed with Major League Soccer club Atlanta United until June 2028.[4]

International career

He got his first call up to the senior Chile squad for a friendly against the United States in January 2015 and made his international debut in the match.[5]

Personal life

He is the son of former defender Ítalo Díaz,[6] who played for the Chile national team in 2001. His younger brother, Nicolás, is a Chilean international footballer too.[7]

Díaz Huincales is of Mapuche descent.[8]

Díaz naturalized Argentine by residence in 2024.[9]
