I made a poll over on Tumblr for what my prettiest OTP ship tag was (it's still ongoing!) without saying which OTP the tag was for. I tried to fill the options in randomly to avoid even any perceived rank order on my part - I just wanted to know which tag everyone thought is the prettiest! Before filling out the options I was like, do I even have 12 OTP tags? Surprise: Oh no! oh no! Who do I cut?! How do I cut?!

Today, I posted the 'reveals' and had a lot to say about them - shockingly ;) I'm backing the reveals up here because I have a lot of emotions about my ships and also love analyzing them with Stats(TM). I'll come back and update this post once the poll is closed; right now, I have no idea who is in the lead or anything because I haven't voted.

1 - otp: I shall think about you - Jane/Guildford (My Lady Jane, 1.07 'Another Girl, Another Planet')

JANE: All is not yet lost. My trial…
GUILDFORD: Jane, that will be a farce.
JANE: It's a chance. I've been preparing. Even if I don't prove my innocence...you can live, my family can live. That is what I shall think about if...I shall think about you.
GUILDFORD: [attempts to smile but can't keep looking at her at the thought of her execution]

This one breaks my heart and I also mess it up half the time with 'of you' instead before I fix it, but 'about you' is where the power lies. Jane thinks that if she's executed, she'll think about Guildford in that moment, her last moment? I'm verklempt.

2 - otp: welcome home - Jyn/Cassian (Rogue One)

JYN: I'm not used to people sticking around when things go bad.
CASSIAN: [leaning in so close he casts a shadow over her face] Welcome home.

After a convo with

lirazel, I wanted to share a list of characters who I see as ace (or demi) and have headcanons for :)

Eris (Seven Devils Duology): In this sprawling space opera, she never once expresses romantic or sexual interest in another person - even internally - but she does glomp onto her friend-person in a very ace way.

Cassian Andor (Rogue One):"Everything I did, I did for the rebellion." He's an Enjolras type to me; the quintessential rebel whose burning passion is for liberty and the Rebellion. I see him as at least demi veering towards ace but, uh, still romanticif you get my drift.

Chelsea Babbage (Wanted): This is a character who I see as ace because she does performance/comp het relationships but always chooses Lola over any other option (including those involving her freedom or relative security). Very wlw!ace territory.

Emma Woodhouse (Emma): I've written about this extensively before!

Enjolras (Les Miserables): I've always seen him as ace and been strongly attached to him. "He was the marble lover of liberty. His speech was roughly inspired and had the tremor of a hymn. He astonished you by his soaring. Woe to the love affair that should venture to intrude upon him!"

Frodo Baggins (Lord of the Rings): A character I connected with as a teen and whom I've never seen as being involved romantically with anyone. I could also see Bilbo here!

Gabrielle (Xena: Warrior Princess): I have a whole draft on this saved over on Tumblr but I definitely have come to see Gabrielle as at least grey-ace or demi; she describes Xena as her 'way' but isn't particularly interested in sex or romance with anyone else (especially in comparison to Xena, in both flashbacks and the present).

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games): I don't usually think about THG much these days but when I do, I think about ace!Katniss

Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom): Ace disaster whom I love; again, I do think he loves Inej and his identity is certainly mixed up with his childhood trauma and severe haphephobia but the one other instance (pre-story) that he tries to have a relationship with someone is forced and because he thinks he should.

Luke Skywalker (Star Wars): Luke has this tendency to glomp on to people and care about them a lot but in the movies he never is given a romantic partner and I can easily read the stuff with Leia as him mis-reading their strong connection (relateable, inasmuch as that's possible in a world without the Force!). He has a similarly strong connection with Han.

Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter): A character whom I saw a lot of myself in as a tween/teen and who has no definitive romantic relationship i the books (though I will ship Harry/Luna to the end).

Michael Westen (Burn Notice): I noticed this fanon in the Tumblr tag and found myself nodding along with it. Michael has one (1) love interest and he never, for seven seasons, including when he and Fiona are on a break or something, expresses either interest in romance or sex or entertaining the idea from his friends (who eventually seem to realize he's just not interested).

Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter): Actual life role model! An inspiration to us all! Also very ace to my eyes (it's kind of funny how all the professors are presented as single when that wouldn't have to be the case at all).

Scott Hastings (Strictly Ballroom): Scott is one of the only characters in the movie who is specifically shown to not be that interested in a romantic (or sexual) relationship. When his dance partnership with Liz ends, everyone is talking about how bad it is for dance, but there is no mention of a romantic relationship dying. When Liz teams up with Ken, they are shown to be in a romantic/sexual relationship at the same time. When Fran starts crushing on Scott, he reminds her that rumba being the dance of love is pretend, not real. It takes him a long time to get attached to and develop feelings for Fran, but all of that is bound up in his emotions about dance, and the most we ever see from them are two relatively chaste kisses. Ace, or at the very least, very demi!

I generally don't like to include robots or other AI in ace lists because a lot of lists I see have only included robots/AI and it sort of feels dehumanizing to me (could be just a me thing) but I do read Cameron Phillips (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Janet (The Good Place) as ace. Also, Clara Gutierrez (The Cybernetic Tea Shop) is also canonically ace, so she belongs on the post but is not just my own reading of her or a headcanon.
