A sibling community to dw_cosplay, this is a space for cosplaying and costume-fun from the classic era of Doctor Who - the first eight Doctors, the associated companions and supporting characters and all the "funky" stuff that goes along with it. Television, the New Adventures & Missing Adventures novels, the Big Finish audio stories, the comics and even the "non-canonical" movies of the 1960s are all welcome here, as long as it's relevant to the first through eighth Doctors. Take a look at our "interests" list to get the idea.
Cross-posting to dw_cosplay is encouraged, but this space is NOT for new-series content.
Feel free to discuss costume ideas, brag up costumes you've made, look for help with current projects, share nifty sources for replica celery, etc. All the maintainers ask is that you read the rules before joining or reading or posting to or replying to the community.
Please bookmark the URL doctorwhoclassiccosplay.com - this is our "lifeboat" URL which means that, while it's a bit of a handful to type, it'll always point to whereever this community is on the web, even if LJ eats itself, which the mods are constantly worried that it might. Right now, it points to this community, obviously. ;)
The Rules
1. This is a community for discussing Doctor Who cosplay from the classic era, and lso that era that, for want of a better name, we call "funky" - the New Adventures, the Big Finish stories, the comics, and even the "non-canonical" movies of the 1960s.
2. When posting, please be polite and play nice with each other. The community maintainers decide what constitutes as nice. Spirited discussion is okay - name-calling and sh*t-stirring is not.
2.5 Making a post in which you declare you have a super-special seeeeecret source for something (be it fabric, clothing or whatever) and you're not going to share it with anyone, for whatever reason, has been declared a violation of the spirit of this community and the "Play Nice" rule. If you want to keep a secret, don't brag up that you have a secret in the first place.
3. Please use tags with your posts. You can find a list of all of the community tags and the entries using them in our tag archive.
3.5 If your first post to this community is something along the lines of "I'm looking for..." or "Can someone identify..." please check the tag archive, first - that link will lead you to a list of all of our tags and the entries using them. (NB: tags are still under construction)
4. If posting pictures, please put all pix after the first behind a cut tag. If you don't know how to create a cut-tag, read this.
4.5 For that first picture before the cut-tag, please don't post anything wider than 400 pixels. Anything wider than that could screw up a user's friends' page and that's always aggravating for them. Many of the members read the comm via their flist, so this is important!
5. This is not a how-to-sew community for beginning sewers. If you have never sewn anything before and you're looking for tips on how to get started, we suggest you visit costuming and sewing. Questions on intermediate and advanced techniques and tailoring will be accepted, as long as they're clearly relevant to this community and are tagged appropriately ("technique").
6. No sales posts of any kind are permitted. If you have a Doctor Who costuming item you would like to sell, go to dwcosplay_sales.
7. All posts and replies must be in English. (Russian spambots have been a problem)
8. You must be a member of the community to post or reply.
9. The Maintainers will not accept "But I didn't know!" as an excuse for breaking the community's rules. If you consistently break the rules, you will be booted and banned.
10. The community mods are not the copyright police. Cosplay can be an intellectual-copyright grey area and we have no desire to go wading in that quagmire.
11. Any and all fund-raising posts must be approved by the maintainers before the post is made on the community. Posts made without pre-approval will be deleted.
honorarydoctor and wulfae have put together some excellent reference posts for specific Doctor costumes. They are part of the dw_cosplay archives but are listed here, for your convenience.
