I am trying to make saturday a default art day for me. Do art unless something stops me doing art.

Today I have Hana and Tatsuki from Sex Kitten, and another seascape.

*flops, freshly awoken, across his blog*

Oh, I promised an update like almost a week ago? Time really gets away from you, doesn't it?

--- --- ---

We'll start with a recap on the recent art progress:
Here's the last two posts about SK art, demonstrating my progress designing Faruk, the barista.
Post 1
Post 2

--- --- ---

Now the writing.
The initial draft of SK was completed some time ago. I think I announced that already?
Now I've been working my way through the second draft.

In the first draft, the story got split up into 10 main sections.
In the second draft, I expanded the first section into around 7 scenes, and am now several scenes deep into section 2.
Section 2 looks like it's going to result in more scenes than section 1.

I'm having to add scenes into draft 2 that I hadn't written into the draft 1 summary. It's possible I'll need to do a THIRD draft that's only partial, just expanding on/cleaning up scenes and plot that gets added in this draft.
What's that, don't mix drafting phases and editing phases? Babe I'm not sure I'm capable of turning off Editing Brain.

But things are progressing... actually remarkably fast.
It's so strange to me looking back and realizing how fresh this idea is, and it's coming together so fully and in extensive planned detail.

In addition to getting into section 2 in the summary, I've started thumbnailing and scripting for section 1.
I officially have One Scene's worth of script, of two characters talking, and I have some starting plans for the composition for the first page of the comic.

If I stagger the work like this, starting the drawing for section 1 as I force my way through expanding section 2...
I can possibly get started on actually drawing the first comic within a couple months.
My hope with the pages are trying to get 1+ pages completed a week, and once I get a comfortable buffer, posting 1 page a week.
If I succeed in drawing more than one page a week and the buffer starts getting expansive (a hope, but I make no promises), than I may sometimes post double updates. That is, more than one page in a single update.

Judging from the size I'm already working with, this comic is a multi-year project. It's going to take years to complete all the pages.
I always get too damn ambitious for my own good with art projects. :p

--- --- ---

So there's the state of things for now.

My next plans:

Obviously, more writing.

I'm planning to start doing some kind of visual art at least twice a week, on a schedule, instead of just whenever I feel like it.
With the help of my adhd meds I'm really hoping I can get a bit more structure into my workweek and smooth out my progress some.
Ideally the visual art days will always include at least some designwork for SK, but sometimes I just might not be able to focus and just do some doodling or sign painting.

I was planning to try to cut down my Minecraft hours a little to squeeze in more work time. I think with my meds I don't need to mainline dopamine quite as hard to keep my brain at baseline operating function.
Buuuuut...
One of my friends is inviting me to a third server and, given the context (not shared here), I'll be accepting.
So my less MC time on my first servers is just going straight into MC time on server #3. :p

Friend D is suffering from summertime heat problems and will have less energy for our Friday games though, so I expect to make up a little time there.
I currently have up to 4 days a week scheduled for social time. And it's broken up in a pattern which means dropping any one of the days does mean missing out on specific sorts of gaming or people.
Friend K, D, and L on Tuesdays for board games, Path of Exile, or Subnautica 2.
Friend K and D on Saturdays for Minecraft, Stardew Valley, or other things.
Friend D on Fridays for Minecraft, Vintage Story, art hangouts, or whatever.
There's things I do with D that K isn't interested in, so I miss out dropping Friday. I would miss out on Stardew dropping Saturday. I would miss out on L dropping Tuesday...
And on Wednesday it's Family Minecraft Time so that's an entirely different group, so whuf.
So fucking busy.

But yeah, with the heat brutalizing friend D, and their poor laptop, Friday hangouts will become sparser for a few months, so I'll use the gaps to try to get more done and/or relax and recover from the work and socializing.

In the meeeeeeantime, I have another project waiting in the wings!
This one isn't one I have to push aside like the others to keep SK in the forefront.
This is an idea for something more OGLAF style (in structure). That is, lots of smaller stories bundled together under one title. This gives me a place to throw together misc short stories that fit certain criteria. It avoids getting in the way of SK by virtue of being little miniprojects I can do when I need a short break from working on SK, but don't want to get distracted with something big. Make a little 1-4 page story or so, post it, get back to my "proper" work.
And what sort of criteria would this title ask for? Well, the working name right now is "Edgetastica", and I first thought of it while rereading THIS comic (1):
Nana's Everyday Life
I remembered how much I can LOVE edgy humor when it isn't being racist, queerphobic, or otherwise bigoted. Just the pained laughter of something horrible presented comedically.
So that's what this comic will be. Call it jokes that would get you canceled on Tumblr.
I already have 5 "storylines" for the comic. That is, repeating gags involving the same themes or characters. Again, OGLAF style.
I'll work on that on no particular schedule, just whenever I feel like it in between grinding away at SK writing.

(1) Warnings for:
Violence, death, sexual jokes involving a minor, and more!

I guess I'll wrap up this post here.
More updates coming in the future as I work!

Oh right and I'll try to get the official SK information post updated later. Today? I dunno. We'll see what happens.
Anyway, off to breakfast for me.

I've still been making progress on SK.
Every week I get more done.

I'll write an update for that soonish.
But not right now because I'm sleepy and hungry.

Things are getting done!

Guess who's going to try to start scheduling his art better, starting with doing something every Saturday?

And today, I have what might be the final design for Faruk, minor tweaks aside. And in addition, another sketchy seascape.

I updated Krita today to access the new features and play around with it a bit.
Here's some of my favorite pieces that I made today.

My hand is finally recovered enough to draw again!
...as long as I take it easy.
There's been some atrophy, so I need to rebuild the muscles, and I get sore. But that's just a matter of practice, now.

Which finally allowed me to get around to doing a redesign of one of the secondary characters for Sex Kitten.
The Barista, formerly called Sean, went from a white guy to a black guy named Faruk.
His personality, interests, and role in the story are all the same. This is just a cosmetic change.

But, man...
I am so happy with how it's going so far.

Personal:
My hand is super well healed, now.
It's been going so much faster than I expected.
Not fully healed, but there's pretty much no pain now. A light impact or poke on the surgery site would probably still hurt like the dickens, and I don't want to test that, but general movement is fine.
I still can't write by hand or draw yet, and there's plenty of lingering stiffness in the scar that will ease over time. It's pretty easy to tell how it compares to the other thumb that had this same surgery years earlier.

Sex Kitten:
I finished the first draft pass of the plot and am going through another draft now, expanding details, smoothing out character and relationship continuity, adding some missing scenes, and doing some other general cleanup work.
This new draft is still very early, I only have a bit over a page done so far, but I'm excited to be working on it again.

Now I gotta try to get enough sleep if I can, because in about 5 hours the yard workers arrive and some time after that they'll blow their FUCKING leaf blowers even though there's NO DAMN LEAVES at this time of the year.
And I have Minecraft time in the afternoon with family... And then a shower...

I might not get anything done tomorrow, but I am getting back to work now that my hand is feeling a lot better.

Stitches out
Hand is free
Only healing left for me
dreadlordmrson: The Eye of Dread. (Default)
I can play light Minecraft (lots of breaks, no sustained or heavy mouse activity) for hours now.
I can type fairly freely for writing and code.

I tried to do some simple sketches and hand-written notes today to get an idea down for later, and it was painful. Sore and aching in my palm. I needed a lot of breaks to get all the ideas down. I would put myself down as NOT being able to draw yet, at all. The simple sketches were too much.

My stitches and the area around them are sore to the touch, especially on the side with the knots.'
The stitches come out on the 30th, though. I'm looking forward to having them gone, if not the process of removing them.

Once they're gone I'll make more attempts and writing and drawing, and try to get back into being able to work again.
In the meantime, I will try to work on some coding and writing and try not to entirely have all my time eaten by Mincecraft.

For tomorrow though, I have game time with friends and probably won't be getting much done this weekend.
Though, I have had a few more thoughts on SK, so that's still getting (very slow) progress even as I'm still healing.

More updates when I have them.

My hand is out of the wrap and free again!
My thumb still isn't up for a lot of heavy use yet. There's a lot of healing still to do.
But it's feeling so much better already.
My wrist was getting so itchy...

I might start back in on coding work today? Depending how I feel in a couple hours after breakfast and stuff.
Though I'll be going slow, so I can minimize use of my thumb.
I'm not using it to type right now, though really I mostly use my other fingers to type anyway.
dreadlordmrson: The Eye of Dread. (Default)
Bandage comes off tomorrow.
I am so restless.
I want to get back to doing more things again.
Blurgle.

Back from thumb surgery.
Everything went fine.
Don't like typing one handed.
Will return when I can

Ah, things have been a bit busy today, so I'm late, but here's some of those details for my progress that I said I'd share.

8/10 of the summaries are done, and the other two are partially done.
Several scenes that were a lot of [??? thing happens] are more fleshed out now.

I'm both really eager, and dreading moving on to the editing and refinement pass.
This will involve more cleaning up and defining scenes, adding scenes to bridge certain moments that need better lead in. Integrating characters better. Smoothing out jagged pacing to the best of my ability. Naming more characters. Checking what scenes can be combined to have two things happen at once to save myself from some drawing later.
There's a lot to do!

I'll give more detailed updates in the future, but I'm so fricking hungry and tired right now.

Have been making strong progress on SK.
More information tomorrow after I've gotten some sleep.

Ah the fun part of going out: Coming home and trying to pry the One Bad Thing out of anxiety brain's mouth so it stops chewing on it.
Focus on the GOOD parts, damnit.

Horror movie writer: "And here, the monster is a metaphor for the violence of the rapist, and this later gory murder is a metaphor for the horrors of childbirth-"

Me, writing my kink scenes in my head: "Y'all use metaphors for those?"
