| My dreads (R.I.P.) |
[28 Jun 2012|05:15pm] |
These are my dreads that I had about 3 months ago. I miss them very much/ I had to get rid of them because it just wasn't the right time in my life to have them. I want them to be made with love and have a good journey to do them with. I am waiting until I get pregnant with my first child to re do them. Gives me a lot of time to grow my hair out for them.

| new and probably 101 questions.... |
[13 Oct 2008|04:34pm] |
'lo..
well after wearing fake synthetic dreads for many years I have decided I am so completely fed up of having to take them out every few months and have normal hair for a few weeks that i have decided to dread my hair. Without them i don't feel like me
My best friend has the most amazing dreads and is a bit of a expert when it comes to maintenance and looking after them, so I have asked oh so nicely if she would consider doing them for me, (she usually does my synthetic dreads and any maintenance on them too) so fingers crossed she says yes :-)
my questions maybe silly and i have searched through memories but i maybe blind ~winks~
1)is there anything i can do in the week or so before dreading to prepare my hair?
2)my hair is around 15" long how long could i expect the dreads to be? how much length could i lose?
3)would it be better to dye my hair before the dreading process or does this lead to fights with blending roots etc etc , should i stay my natural color or cover those roots again?
4)i have a supa dupa dread kit arriving Dreadhead HQ any thoughts on the products you get included? is it worth using or is it better to go au-natural...

Hey I'm lookin for a little advice. knotty boy and dreadheadhq say to use wax to make dreads but I've found a website Superhippie.com that says that wax is bad. I've heard that wax is bad before. Superhippie.com says that knotty boy and dreadheadhq just us wax and wax removers as a way to make money. Is this true? which website should I trust?

Following on the heels of Lishd I would like to call all dreadies to post their favorite dreadstyles. (I checked the memories and there wasn't much up there unless I missed something. Perhaps we can get a collection together to add to the memories! I've got two styles I use on a regular basis:

| Almost Two Years! |
[01 Jul 2008|10:32pm] |
I've had my dreads for about two years now! Woah the time went fast. It took about a year for them really to lock up and start looking like real dreads, then it took another six months for them get longer and look like NICE dreads. But they are here and I love them. Great Shampoo: www.fivestarsoap.com If you have dandruff you might be washing too much, you may not be hydrated enough (drink your water fools!!) as well as maybe not eating enough good oils that help your skin (extra virgin olive oil, raw coconut oil, flax oil, and hemp oils are all real great but the last two are the best). Tea tree oil is a great topical treatment for the scalp, aloe is great for everything. Sometimes it's best just to go natural with them. I didn't do much for mine, I just let them do their own thing, no wax and very few combed in. I'm happy with my results and they'll never be perfect dreads, but that's not what having locks is all about. Let 'em live!!

| Name my dreads for a good cause? |
[13 Feb 2008|03:09pm] |
|
I'm trying to raise some money for a poorly little boy who has osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that started in his leg but has spread to his lung. There's more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteosarcoma for anyone wanting to know more about the disease. He's only 8 (will be 9 on March 3rd which is the same day as my birthday) & is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
I've already asked friends and family who were planning on sending me a birthday card this year to send me a quid instead so that I can donate it towards buying him a portable DVD player & some DVDs or a laptop if enough money can be raised.
If you have any unwanted items I can eBay to raise further funds then please email me at viktoriamalik@yahoo.co.uk
Or, if you have a couple of spare quid you could chuck this way then please leave a comment below letting me know whether you require my home address, paypal details or bank account details to send your donation. (I'll screen the 'comments' for your privacy)
Finally, I'm giving people the opportunity to name my dreads for the bargainous price of £5. For £5 you can name one of my dreads and I'll send you a photo' of it along with it's dimensions. If you can donate more that'd be fantastic, equally if you can't afford a fiver but would still like to name one please just make an offer. It's all for a good cause. :-) I have 32 dreads in total & they're coming up for a year old now. Please note that 5 have already been claimed & named. :-D If you would like to name one please leave a 'comment' below letting me know how you would like to send your donation. (I'll screen the 'comments' for your privacy)
I am also offering people the opportunity to adopt a dread for £10 & there's currently 5 available. For this you will get a photo', dimensions and a list of your dreads hobbies, interests and activities over the next 6 months.
I shall keep you guys updated as to how much has been raised and also what wonderous names have been chosen. Please let me know whether you would like to keep your identity anonymous.
Thanks. x

I've only had my dreads for a few weeks, and I was wondering if there are any dread-friendly dandruff shampoos that'll keep my scalp clean and fresh without moisturizing and ruining my babies. I'm currently using the DreadHead HQ shampoo, and while I like it, I'm finding that it still doesn't wash out as much as I wish it would. Any suggestions? If not...I can live; as I said, I'm only wondering about it...
And, here, ( PicturesCollapse )

I would like to introduce you all to my first real dreadlock.
My baby dreadie is one week old today. I did some teasing with a fine-tooth plastic comb, then used a felting needle. It is wonderfully smooth and tight.
( I like to call it Penelope.Collapse )
I'm not going to dread my whole head at once, just do it randomly when I feel like it. My hair shall be a work in progress. <3
x-posted.

| Vinegar |
[18 Aug 2007|09:54am] |
Hey, I was wondering about the use of vinegar on dreads. I live in an area with a lot of bugs, and the smallest ones are prone to get in my hair, especially when I enter/exit my apartment at night (what with the big light in the breezeway that brings them pretty much right to it).
My understanding is that the vinegar basically smothers anything in there, and dissolves [at the very least, least the adhesive which attaches] the eggs [to your individual strands of hair]. I've done it a couple of times in the last few months, but is there a limit to how often it should be done? I've come to terms with the fact that they're gonna get in there, but I'm trying to make sure that once they're in, I can get them out. On the other hand, I also wanna make sure that I'm not gonna end up killing my hair along with them.

| Rastaaaaaa.... |
[11 Aug 2007|07:04pm] |
Soooo....after a very very very long time, I got my dreads finally done!! Actually I've had them for about 4 months, but I've been abroad so I wasn't able to post. I've been a member for a while and Ms. soulhaus was nice enough (she was getting paid haha) to come to San Fransisco and do them for me about a year ago, but then something happened and I had to cancel. Anyway, I really wanted to get rastot since I hate the fact that it takes me about 45 minutes to brush my hair, and I buy a HUGE bottle of conditoner every 2 weeks. So I figured, hell I'm in India, it's going to suck taking care of them, and I found a guy that EVERYONE talks about, and well 3 days of pain later, I have 69 rastot and a lulu...the yarn thing that I tie them up with!
( Here are <strike>some</strike> A LOT of pictures:Collapse )
