Notes: This is a teeny tiny snippet of a much larger idea involving casino robberies and Interpol and tranatlantic romance and all sorts of silliness. For the moment though, this is sort of what prompted the whole thing, aside from two very attractive law enforcement officers portrayed by two very attractive actors with proven on-screen chemistry both with a propensity for wearing blue.

Who finished marking 72 midterms in 50 hours total (including sleep and hockey game and errands)?!

THIS GUY.

I am so proud of me, you guys. I buckled down and did it and now I have way more time than anticipated to... write my own papers. This term kinda sucks. BUT, I am way proud of me. So proud that I now will proceed to knock out a four page paper this evening, watch the Ducks/Sharks game (we're totally gonna win this one. I have faith in my TEAM), and possibly even get some playtime in. Oh yes. I am on a roll.

Tomorrow, I will write at least one 4 page paper (maybe two) and hopefully also take out the trash and watch this week's Hellcats and Katee Sackhoff on CSI from Thursday and Tricia Helfer on Lie to Me from Monday.

I am gonna kick this term's ass. I am absolutely convinced of it.

(P.S. My students are WAY better this term. There were some pratfalls and idiotic statements, but 45.5% of them got some variety of A. A further 33.5% got Bs of some sort. 13.5% got Cs. 1% got Ds. And only 5.5% failed. SO MUCH BETTER.)

Today's announcements:

1. My body is trying to kill me. Cramps and marking 62 freshman midterms should never ever occur in the same week. *fears tomorrow*

2. New plan: Re-make The Great Race, originally starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Natalie Wood, with Jamie Bamber as the Great Leslie (the Tony Curtis part) and Adam Savage of Mythbusters and W00tstock as Professor Fate (the Jack Lemmon part). (I, being me, am also in favour of Katee Sackhoff as Maggie DuBois, the Natalie Wood role, a scrappy sultry sneaky suffragette (ah, how I adore alliteration) who can fence, play the guitar and sing, and look fabulous at all times). It would be AWESOME. And steampunky. And shirtless fencing. And a giant pie fight. And shooting people out of cannons. And icebergs. And rockets. And musical numbers. And other ridiculousness. It would be the best thing ever.

3. I think I finally have a topic for my Commercial Theatre (which basically means Broadway) final paper. I shall write about women in drag in Broadway musicals, comparing Victoria Grant in Victor/Victoria with Alice Nutting (aka Drood) in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. It will be awesome and allow me to watch V/V multiple times and listen to two of my favourite Broadway shows over and over. Prof. Vickery's classes typically give me awesome ways to do things I want to do in service of his final papers. Last term, it was read and watch The Scarlet Pimpernel over and over.

Day 05 - A show you hate
This one was actually really hard for me, because it seems unfair to pick something I've never seen (Bill O'Reilly, The Bachelor/ette, Jon and Kate Plus 8) but... I really don't watch things I hate, that's why I have a remote and DVDs. On reflection, I have decided to go with 24, specifically this past season which made no sense and in which the actors were not told what their character arcs were, which explains why so often it seemed like characters turned on a dime with no motivation. But I didn't really hate it, I just stopped watching it.

Katee Sackhoff on KGW Portland's Live @ 7 tonight was BRILLIANT. Her attempt at doing weather, I predict, will be a classic. Also, she says Lost & Found will be funny and smart. There are no words for how excited I am about the idea of a smart FUNNY Katee show. AND it's written by a woman. Coming Fall 2009 if it gets picked up. If it doesn't get picked up, I will not be a happy camper. Anyway, yes, Katee = adorable love. I should make a color bar.

Ow, Bionic Woman. Just...ow. Give me Sarah Corvus, kill off Jaime, and we'll all be fine.

STOP BREAKING FEMINISM. SHE'S A FREAKING BIONIC WOMAN! HOW IS THIS SUCH AN ARCHAICALLY PATRIARCHAL SHOW?!

Better give me some Katee Sackhoff pretty damn soon, David Eick. I expect better of you.

Today was, for the most part, a good day. I got up, I drove out to see Sydney White, I drove home (I killed no one with my car), my copy of Empire of Ivory arrived, and I spent the afternoon reading BW reviews.

The verdict?
The show is dark, maybe too dark. Almost no one like Michelle Ryan, they find her bland and sorta sullenly whiny. (Me too) Almost everyone LOVES KATEE. (Which is totally reasonable, says I) And when I say love, we run the gantlet from most watchable part of the show and only bright spot, to OMG give Sarah Corvus a spinoff and screw this show and basically the entire Slate.com review. HOORAY, MY KATEE IS LOVED!!!! *sniff* All growed up and getting headlines in the Chicago Tribune...'Bionic Woman' needs less superficial angst, more Katee Sackhoff FTW. I think about 4 of the 15-18 reviews I read didn't mention her and at least 75% adored her as she ought to be adored. *snuggles contentedly*

On the subject of Katee, or rather her other show, best line in Sydney White was definitely when Sydney is telling the seven dorks that they're gonna run for student government and one of them says "Next, you'll be telling us Admiral Adama is a cylon..." Serious awesomeness. They won for great very authentic nerd commentary. And it's always fun to see Danny Strong playing a GINORMOUS dork.

Tonight brings the promise of cramps and community theatre rehearsal, to be followed by ice cream and giant doses of Katee. Yay.

Thoughts, ramblings, and other things:

Have been plagued of late by the ethical implications of watching and by extension supporting Bionic Woman. If you're interested in my concerns and I haven't already waffled all over you, drop a comment and I'll explain further. It has to do with homophobia and actors I like.

Dreams last night were of truly spectacular scariness. End of the world, twice, my brother and two of his friends leaving our house to look after a sick dog and ending up murdered in the back of an SUV, Kara Thrace committing suicide and having her body mailed to Lee Adama. Woke up, it should not be surprising, in a cold sweat. Seriously, will someone calm my subconscious the hell down?

I will be in Seal Beach Friday night to Sunday morning making a pittance to co-kidsit a trio of children during my local Quaker church's retreat. Anyone with suggestion for things that might appeal to a) a baby, b) a very bright kindergarden age girl, c) a seven year old autistic boy, or d) any combination of the above, let me know.

I still fail at life.

ABBA Fantasista is still bouncing around in my head, I'm working on things and hope to start really writing in the next few weeks.

I'm driving again for the first time in three+ years. I think I'm more comfortable this time around, though I desperately wish I was driving my father's car (2002ish Prius) and not mine (1989ish Camry).

Slowly, my room is starting to be a living space again, which is good, I suppose.

I almost wish I played video games like Halo, the Halo 3 voice cast is so awesome. Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, and Katee the Magnificent? Way too cool.

I picked up the season premiere of Bones. They're dealing with the Illuminati. I may watch for awhile...

My grandma is 85. She wants me to house/catsit in a few week so she can go traveling again. How cool is that?

Oh, frak me. Why NBC? Why have you cast Isaiah Washington, he of the icky anti-gay, in Bionic Woman?
Thing the first: I want to like BW because it co-stars my beloved Katee. I watched Last Sentinel and How I Married My High School Crush for her. But one of the reasons I gave up Grey's Anatomy was him. *CONFLICT*
Thing the second: The sci-fi community, as a whole, has seemed to be a fairly gay friendly sort of place. Why would you cast an actor known for his anti-gay slurs on a sci-fi show? Is that dumb? I think so.
