I finally gave in and bought VtM Bloodlines today. On eBay from a UK seller and he already sent it on its way. Hopefully it'll arrive quickly and undamaged. Installing will be a nightmare -- did I mention this game is literally unplayable without patches? The big ones are the official patch from the developers and two fan-mades that may or may not be compatible (experiences vary). The documentation regarding the patches is crappy. Plus they are a package deal -- it's not like in Morrowind where I could pretty much fine-tune the game with small detail mods, the fanpatch creators had specific ideas about how the game as a whole should play so you're stuck with the changes you like and the changes you can't stand or don't care about.

But anyways, I am excited. EXCITED. I've been obsessing over this game for a whole year (usually quietly and to myself because... there's neither much of a fandom nor many people at all near me who are into VtM AND play that videogame). I'm gonna play it and I'm gonna take notes. And quite probably curse a lot.

The thing is, no matter how many flaws the game has in execution or representation, its player-NPC interaction (i.e. the role-playing aspect) is so amazingly done that you will feel it changes you. The voice-acting is overwhelmingly great, the dialogue is fun, and the NPCs have personality by the bucketload. So much that I am looking forward to "meeting" them, you know what I mean? I'm literally sitting here going "I want to finally meet Isaac" (Romero, Mercurio, Gary, Sebastian, Velvet, Damsel, Nines, I could go on forever ...) and I want to coax every possible reaction and line of dialogue out of them. And because their facial animations are done so well, it feels like an actual conversation: they smirk, furrow their brows, roll their eyes, look smug... it's really easy to think that they have a life, you know?

I have a suspicion that many other RPGs will somehow lose their shine for quite a while after I'm done with Bloodlines.

- Hellraiser II widescreen edition DVD
- black woollen leg warmers
- large frame for my Chameleons tour poster
- FUCK YEAH LEATHER JACKET

That is all.

(Sidenote: you know what makes you feel really fucking GOOD? Inching closer and closer to your personal well-matching, ideal style with your clothing and accessories.)

... I just bought Digital Devil Saga and Devil Summoner*. eBay is good for my soul but bad for my finances.

The sad part? I'm one of those types who rarely finish video games and yet must have them. -_-°

* is it the eyeliner?

Not feeling too well, so I might just check the TV whether there are any Spongebob reruns* and go for a nap. But I just had to share my newest treasure. You know, nowadays I'm all like, "Oh, I'm not a Bowie fan anymore, I'm not even up to date on what he's currently doing!" Then I saw this at a local bookstore and almost drooled:

BERJAYA

Is that beautiful or what?! Huge hardcover, bazillions of photographs, accompanying texts by Bowie himself. Reduced price, from 50 down to 5 (!) Euros. It's the translated version, but at that point I didn't really care. *g* If any Bowie fans among you happen to live around Cologne, I heartily recommend the Mayersche bookstore at Neumarkt, respectively their new store section for publisher Zweitausendeins ("2001") on the first floor.

Of course, I also had to buy a copy of Jack Holland's book on the history of misogyny. And a collection of German essays on Science Fiction (and the German SF scene), where I counted 47 contributions but only one of them (!) by women authors, and that was a shared project with the men involved still outnumbering the two women. WHUT. More than 1300 pages and you tell me you couldn't find more female contributors? O_o

(Sidenote: keeping an eye on the gender disparity i.e. women ratio yields "interesting" results. If the aforementioned SF almanach had had 15 female contributors, I'd have gone "wow, so many!" even though it's still only 37,5 percent. 50 percent might have registered as "oh, overwhelmingly women" to me.)**

* I'm not ashamed.
** I only wanted to write about the Bowie book, not get into gender+feminism stuff. DOES NOT WORK, SELF.

Still tired. Also, bleeding and cramping, so I decided against having my blood sample taken today, and will instead do that on Monday. My mood is... um.* Let's just say I'm feeling exhausted pretty quickly and what I'm currently craving the most = playing Diablo2 some more and having unbeliavably sweet things such as tiramisu or tangerine cream cake. Like, for comfort.

So, this is not comfort food, but a comfort entry.

This got longer than expected. Behind the cut: bread, pictures, thoughts on my goth years [sort of] and my sister's taste in music. )

* No, not just because of menstruation, though there are some rather reliable consequences in my case, because generally speaking one thing it does NOT is make me feel good.
