Deedlebug
|
So. I went to the saltwater fish store today that I really hate. I went because it was down the street from the one I like and Deedlebug is having a friend sleep over and I wanted to keep them entertained, and so we went. Yeah. I fucking hate that store. I fucking hate that they let things die. They don't take any sort of good care of their corals or soft intervertebrates. It makes me angry that they let animals die of neglect. It made Deedlebug angry today too, and she decided to do something about it.
She Used The Cute. Some people use the Force. She uses The Cute. And damn, was I ever proud of her. She pointed out a dying fish in a tank and of course since her friend was with her it turned into drama times two. They got very upset that this poor fish was being bothered by the other fish as it lay dying on the bottom of the tank, and they were further upset that no one seemed to care.
Bug tracked down a clerk and he said he'd be over to help her as soon as he was done with client. Well, that wasn't good enough for her. She and her friend camped out by the tank and got VERY loud and were nearly having a death vigil for this poor fish. After a few minutes she complained to me that the guy wasn't arriving fast enough for her and I said that she should go find him again and repeat her request. She planned to ask to get the fish for free and take it home since it was clearly dying, and she'd nurse it back to health (which means I'd do the nursing, she'd do the cheering). So she FORCED herself to tear up and said, "I'm gonna Use The Cute, Mom." And sure enough, she waited in line until she got this big tattooed guy to follow her back to the tank and he said he'd take it and put it in the hospital tank. Bug lit up like a light bulb and thanked him profusely, as did her friend. Of course, by hospital tank I suspect the guy meant toilet, but hey. At least the dying fish would be out of its misery.
So I was very proud, and I told both girls so. I told them that I was very proud that they'd stand up to help a dying animal in pain, and that was very noble and compassionate and the right thing to do.
So yeah. What an awesome kid. |
