I am one third of the way through a one-woman sewing bee, due on Sunday morning. I've finished the shirt, which is a shirt of great beauty and sturdiness, for I know the wearer will be fighting in it, and also of great size. I kept rechecking my measurements, but they're really what I wrote down, and I made the shirt to those dimensions. I'll find out tomorrow whether I recorded them inaccurately, or whether he really is an over-sized freak.
:-D
Next up is underoos. Should be simpler. I'm reconstructing a pattern from Knight Hospitaller (1) 1100-1306 from Osprey Publishing, because my client is building himself Hospitaller rig from the skin up (bless him), and Osprey seem to do pretty good research. It is, at least, internally consistent. And that's the picture my client pointed at and said "<3!"
Also, I'm wearing a brand new pair of pants that are one year older than I am - some army surplus trousers rescued from the op shop. They're in very good condition, and the craftmanship is stunning. They fit, too. I had to put on some braces (never suspenders in NZ, children) because something about the high, wide waist just made me do it. I'm feeling very studly, but in a girl way. I am, however, reminded of an old friend describing his rig when he first joined the army, clothing designed to button and link together solidly. When he had to go to the toilet, the first thing he did was take off his hat.
And a friend is just about to come round to run the cheerleading section. Damn, I wish I'd slept better last night.
In the end I went with chilli chocolate tart which was fairly complicated for a newbie like me (lots of putting things aside to sit for an hour while Something Mysterious…
This is really vivid. I like the comment about doing mandatatory maneouvres in a generally south easterly direction. (Sorry about the late reply, been busy this evening.)
