Glorious Maple

A break from the books and reviews to appreciate our Japanese Maple, planted two years ago. It’s an acer japonicum O. Isami. We asked for one that had especially good Fall color, and last year it was disappointing, barely any color at all. This year, however, it’s glorious, as you can see in these pictures. It’s the only real color we have in the back part of the property. This tree has been slowly turning from green to yellow and suddenly in the last few days it just lit itself up. Wow. Enjoy. Don’t see a lot of great colors where we are for fall. I miss it

We have a couple of other Maple trees, but they don’t get this kind of color. This one is our star. There is some nice color around town, but the wind of the last week or so has stripped most of the leaves away.

  3. We have a Japanese Maple in our front yard that has scarlet leaves just like yours. Plenty of people admire it. Five years ago, when we had a freak October snowstorm and lost power for three days, Diane rushed out and brushed the snow off the leaves of the Japanese Maple which saved it. The heavy wet snow was bending the limbs to their breaking points.

The color on that is just stunning! Wow!

This is not O Isami, is aconitifolium or “Maiku Jaku” probably. Very good plant in any case

pvaldes, I’m just going with the tag that was on the tree when the landscaper brought it for us. Honestly, except for a few like Coral bark, it’s hard for me to tell most Japanese Maples apart.
