Not that what I'm trying to do when I get my speed cut off is legal, but hey, it COULD be! Who are they to judge me?! (this isn't really serious enough to snark, but feel free if you must) 5th November 2009
14th October 2009Hello, My name is Eugene. I'm from Russia. I have a dream. My dream is Ipod Nano. And today YOU can make my dreams come true. I take part in a competition for 500 Nano's. And only can help me to win an Ipod. All I ask you to do is to register in russian social network by this link: http://vk.com/reg14549125 It's absolutely free, but you need to verify your registration with your mobile phone. 13th October 2009Anyone ever see an issue where multiple users when utilizing Remote Desktop suddenly start to get graphic errors? For example if they move an Outlook window the graphics duplicate themselves, get choppy, or sometimes form 'grid' like patterns? I'm testing things and so far I can not duplicate it but three users have complained about the exact same symptoms. Their local desktops display fine. Current Mood:
3rd September 2009Okay, let's say you run a small office with a couple servers -- you're the administrator but you're frequently out of the office. Let's say that three times out of the year one of the servers does something wonky and the only way to "fix" it is to let one of your employees reboot the system. How do you deal with this from a security standpoint? Do you give that user the admin credentials and hope for the best? Do you change the system policy to allow shutdown without login from the console? What would you suggest? Current Mood:
19th May 2009I have a client that has about ~400gb of data to backup. I have to quote them the best backup solution possible. Multiple servers; exchange, sql, terminal server, backup, and the PDC. I have a LT04 estimate from dell (you can see it here) but am curious if this is the best solution. What are your opinions on using a couple of external 500gb hard drives and rotating them? Are there advantages/disadvantages to this? (I have my opinions but I'd like yours.) Cost is a factor with this client but I'm hoping they'll do what is best for the business long term versus shying away and doing something cheaper yet ineffective. Current Mood:
25th March 2009Just FYI (Thanks to CNN this morning): Google is currently accepting applications for users to receive invites to their Google Voice service. You can sign up here Current Mood:
11th March 2009Sending from Outlook I get a random error: 550 5.7.1 n2BHjD2u031448 This message does not comply with required standards. Using webmail I can send the same test msg fine. I'm googling and checking with some common net-help sites but figured I'd drop this here as well in case any of you have run across this. The outgoing test msg is a normal e-mail, nothing fancy, and it only comes back with an error from time-to-time. I'm guessing its an issue with the mail host but they seem clueless so unless I can point them in the right direction this won't get resolved. Thanks. Current Mood:
20th November 2008Anyone know where I can host a single 7U IBM BladeServer in or near Somerville? So far I've only seen prices on 1U or a thousand square feet. Current Mood:
22nd October 2008This is what I just walked into at my client... ( Crude diagram under cutCollapse ) Current Mood:
20th October 2008The GF's laptop has all the signs of a bad FL Inverter Board. I'm going to take it apart and see if it's just a loose cable, but assuming it isn't then ... a) Any local stores that might carry things like FL Inverters? b) What's a local shop that I could take it to that will just do the work when I tell them what's needed? Geek Squad should be able to handle it, but I find their costs a little ridiculous, especially since I already know what's wrong and how to fix it ... Thanks ahead of time. 9th October 2008Does anyone have a really good how-to/best practices on how to effectively backup an Exchange server? I've gathered bits of info here and there and I still think I'm using outdated practices from v9x and v10x. Some of the full back ups can run for well over twelve hours. EDIT- Of course I seem to have, just moments after posting this, found a few best-practice guides right on Symantec's forums. You can see them here Current Mood:
21st July 2008Are any of you kind folks using RMAIL with SpamAssassin in Emacs?... 19th June 2008
gojobs @ :
I work for GoJobs.com, you may have seen our website. We are in the process of a major redesign, aimed at making the site more usable on a local basis for job seekers. So, serendipitously, we could use your feedback, and you can use our resources! We are seeking feedback from IT and webdesign people, hence the reason for posting in this community), rather than just general job seekers. Here is what we are seeking advice about: General webdesign? Useability? Content? Anything and everything… I need as much feed back as possible to take to my boss. Please, at your leisure, check out the following page: http://gojobs.com/boston-ma-jobs.html and leave some feedback for us. We welcome any and all constructive criticism, and I think you will find that we have some really good job listings, too. Thanks in advance for your help. 9th November 2007We have a custom alias set up in Exchange that is supposed to forward mail to another one of our internal systems, which for sake of argument, we'll call "SPARKY". Currently, any mail that is sent out from Exchange passes through another relay server which validates authenticity/credentials. (Honestly, I don't know what the hell it does, but that's not really the issue.) We'll call this system "KEY". Recent network changes have caused KEY to no longer be able to see SPARKY, and the mail we expect to have show up at SPARKY is simply being dropped in the bit-bin. What I want to know is if there is an easy way to set up some temporary custom routing within exchange that would cause any mail going to SPARKY to avoid being sent to KEY and instead be sent directly to SPARKY. Any ideas? Thanks! -Spud 25th October 2007Okay check this. I got a client. They have a t1 line. From an Adtran t1 router it goes to a 5 port switch. From that switch it goes to a linksys router and a single PC. From the same switch it also goes to a server that has two nics (one WAN one LAN) The server is running ISA. Here's the deal that has me banging my head into a wall. They access a secure site (https) for most of their work. From the single pc that is outside the network it works fine. From the server or insane the LAN it does not. I can access a ton of other secure sites fine from the server. It takes FOREVER for the site to time out - it just seems to keep trying to connect. I've disabled ISA, I've verified there is no firewall on the adtran, I've verified the url can be pinged, I've done trace routes, etc. No f'n clue why this single site from inside the network won't load. Anyone magically got a solve for this? 31st May 2007Any of my geekier mates on here want first crack at a Netscreen 5-GT-001 (juniper networks firewall) before I toss it up on craigslist? $350 brand new with box, unopened manuals, cables, etc. It's pretty damned sweet check out the data sheet. 30th April 2007( more behind the cutCollapse ) Comment if interested, or e-mail me, cybertrash at gmail. 23rd April 2007Anyone good with unix? I've got a client that has an old unix box that keeps randomly freezing up. They got this message before and seem to think it's a bad drive in their array. HTFS: inode 60935 on HTFS dev HD (1/42) has bad type 0000000000000 Think this is something I can check out with a few simple commands (..such as?) and swap+clone the bad drive? Current Mood: working
11th April 2007If you were building up a fresh system with an Athlon 64 x2 processor would you go with Windows XP 64-bit or Vista Pro? Is there much an advantage to utilizing the x64 capabilities of XP? As a gamer should I be concerned about games simply not working under Vista? Just trying to get some insight before I reload my system this evening. Current Mood: awake
19th March 2007I got a bit of a mystery and I think I've been staring at the screen for so long that I can't see straight. Maybe one of you out there are a GPO expert and can see what I'm doing wrong here. I have a terminal server setup that I want users to log into and have a very restricted desktop experience. As such I've done the following. in AD I've created a OU called Terminal Server and moved the server into that OU. I then created a GPO called Terminal Server Policy, enabled loopback processing, configured all the stuff I want the policy to do, and then linked it to the Terminal Server OU. I then added the Remote Operators group to security filtering. In theory this should allow the admin to work the console and login witout policy affecting him yet when a user logs in remotely the policy would lock down the machine for them. But when I do gpresult I'm not seeing the policy being processed. The strange part is that I swear I had it working perfectly on Friday and yet now it's broken. =/ Can you see what I'm overlooking? 5th March 2007Just curious if anyone on here has had any experience putting 64-bit versions of Server 2003 into their network. I'm going to be putting two new 2003 x64 PowerEdge systems into an existing 2003 x32 environment. One of the machines will be the primary server and the other is going to host data and Exchange 2007. I'm mostly curious if anyone has encountered any major issues while transitioning to 64-bit. I'm also curious if anyone has used NTBACKUP to simply move folders (with permissions intact) between x32 and x64. Current Mood: working
25th October 2006Got mad tech skillz? My company is looking to put on another full time tech. Decent salary, company car with gas paid for, full health bennies. We're down in Stoughton which is right off of exit 24 (near the Ikea) and it's a great position. If you're interested let me know - I get a slight bonus if I recommend you and you make it past the 90-day probation period. Current Mood: working
