Weekly Award for Bleach fanfiction

This community is for the promotion of the very best of Bleach Fanfiction, whether it be on Live Journal or elsewhere on the Internet.

It is currently in the process of being developed. The mods expect that the comm will go live in December, 2008. Feel free to befriend this comm in anticipation of that time.

Bleach fanfic recommendations are welcome from everyone. We only ask that you do not recommend your own work.

There will be a weekly post asking for recs. You can rec more than one fic in a week - hey, we all have great weeks where we find nothing but gold. This rec list is screened, to avoid shameless fic pimping.

The fics do not have to be new. There are no limits as to rating, or content - if you do actually find a Bleach-Narnia crossover MPREG death!fic that deserves to be recommended, then please do so.

bleach_rec's panel of readers will produce a short list of the best, and from there a vote will be taken as to which fic gets the weekly rec award.

As this is a brand new community, the rules and format are subject to change as the community grows and evolves.


FAQ

1. New Comm, hey? What makes you different?
Lots of LJ Bleach Communities have good fic recommendations on them. But as that’s not their primary purpose, they can be sporadic, and hard to find.

bleach_rec’s whole purpose is collating and evaluating the recommendations of everyone who wishes to make one.

The fics that get revealed in the community’s winner posts represent the best in Bleach fanfic on the net.


2. So, um, how does this work?
There are three stages:
1. There will be a post each week asking for recs.
2. The mods divide the weekly recs amongst the Readers Panel to determine the short list.
3. The Readers Panel votes for the Fic Awards from this short list.


3. So we don’t get to vote on the winner?
To start with, and keep, a strong reputation as a rec site to be trusted, voting is not open – the mods do not want this to turn into a popularity contest. If you wish to have a hand in choosing the weekly winners, then please join our Readers Panel – you’ll be getting access to great fic recommended by other readers, so that in itself is a reason to join the panel.


4. I just read something fab! How do I rec it?
Each week there will be a post especially for recs. The comments are screened to help prevent unwarranted pimpage.

We ask that your rec take the following format:

Author:
Word Count:
Rating:
Pairings:
Spoilers/Warnings:
Rec reason (optional):

The fic does not have to be new. In fact, uncovering old gems is something that bleach_rec expects. We do however expect the pieces to be finished. No WIPs.

So long as the fic is a Bleach fic, there are no limits to what can be recommended. It does not have to be located on LJ. If you think the fic is a great find, then we want to know about it.

Please note that previously recommended fics can be recommended again – however, if the fics have already made bleach_rec’s Award list, they will not be evaluated a second time.


5. So this Readers Panel – tell me more…
Benefits for j00:
1. The fics come to you already recommended – you don’t need to spork your eyes out, or waste time, trying to find something good.
2. The amount of fics you are given to assess for the short list is capped. You will never receive more than 3 fics to evaluate.
3. This is an opportunity to give back to the writers as part of a strong collective – personal recs and comments are love, but bleach_rec is even bigger.

The Reader’s Panel will be made up of a variety of volunteers to ensure fair and equal fic evaluation. It is the mods’ prerogative to remove any Reader if it is demonstrated that their participation does not contribute to the meritorious nature of the fic choices.

6. I want to be on the Readers Panel!
Great! Please let us know here.

A few things:
1. You must be over 18 so you can access and vote on all the fics.
2. We ask that you be open to reading a wide variety of fics. We all have our character preferences, but this community is about writing merit. However, your preferences will be taken into account when assigning recommended fics for consideration.
3. You will be given a maximum of three fics to read in a week for the short list. We need you to be prompt with returning your evaluation, and also prompt with voting. Tardy readers let everyone down and make baby writers cry.


7. So the winners – what do they get?
At the moment they get WAFFs and a shiny banner from one of the talented Bleach artists that are on rotation for creating the banners.

There may be more concrete awards further down the track.

The winners will be contacted by the mods, so they know of their newfound fandom fame.

8. So um, what else can you tell me?
This FAQ is a work in progress – a bit like the community itself. The mods expect that things will be added to this as the community evolves.

Regardless – please consider taking on the role of a Reader, or one of our Banner artists, and definitely consider befriending the community so you can see the awards as they roll out!
