I have holiday cards! And I want to send them to people!
Therefore, if you would like a card from me, please either PM me or leave your address below, along with whether you would like a card for a specific holiday, or a non-holiday card. If you would like to send me a card in return, let me know, and I will give you send you my information. A return card is in no way required. Also, if you have a friend you think would like a card, I'm happy to send one to them, as well. Just let me know.
Soooo! I finally have that news! Which happened at the end of September, but then I was busy. With my NEWS! Which is...I have a house! And I love it. :D
And my kitties love it. So yes! That is my super exciting news! And I have a picture of my door, but not really much more. I'll get on that, I guess.
But as exciting as that is, (and it is very exciting) that's not actually what I'm writing about. Because I got a box of awesome from alex51324, and I wanted to share the awesomeness that it is.
I may (hope to) have some news soon, but I don't want to write anything about it just yet, in the hopes of staving off some disappointment should things not work out. So think good, non-specific thoughts for me, if you would, please.
In other news, I have decided working nights is absolutely not for me. I'm just tired all the time, which seems to have taken a lot of my drive (see: all) to be creative and/or productive. Will be working more days, soon, so hopefully I will see my creative spirit come back. (I've been doing this shift for over nine months now, so I can unequivocally say it's not just that I need to adjust to the new schedule.)
In other, other news, I went to a get-together with some semi-new friends last night, and was surprised by birthday wishes and presents. I had only offhandedly mentioned my birthday, a couple weeks ago, and didn't think they'd even remember. But they did! And got me wonderfully geeky presents that I adore. Like a Buffy lunchbox. It just made my day. And I had been feeling a little stressed out due to potential news above I'm not talking about yet, so it was really the sweetest, most wonderful surprise.
Also, in four days, I'll be on my way to San Diego Comic Con. I'm super excited, but also pretty nervous, as it will be my first time at the SDCC, and I'm not going with anyone, so I can't really cling to a friend, as I am generally wont to do at things that are new and therefore uncomfortable for me. If anyone I know on here is going, I'd love to meet up and be completely nerdy together.
A couple days ago, I caught a mouse in my house. With a shoebox. I feel pretty proud about it. (And don't worry, I let him loose outside.)
I have also decided to get a post-bac in computer science, and have signed up for a few online classes. I figure I'll get my lower-division classes done at the community college, and then consider whether to quit work to go back full-time at the uni, or just work the whole way through. I just think I really need to do something different. I graduated college just to find a job doing exactly what I was doing before. And I know a lot of people are out of work completely, and I am grateful to have any work, but it's still somewhat discouraging.
On Sunday, a few friends from my old college town are coming down, and they're taking me out for a birthday dinner, so I'm really looking forward to that. I haven't seen most of them for over six months, so it will be really nice to see them again.
Oh! And I don't think I ever posted this, but I have two (not actually new anymore, as I got them...almost a year ago, but anyway) new-ish cats! They are named Shy and Li, and are fantastically wonderful. (Also, they're totally stand-offish, except when they want attention. So, you know, very cat-like.) I love them like pancakes. They're 9 year-old sisters, and they're just perfect because they're old enough to not be crazy-energetic, which is important, as I live in a studio apartment.
Man, I did not mean to write that much. Anyway, think good thoughts for me if you have some to spare, and hopefully I'll have some good news to write about soon.
Also, is the preview button working in rather odd ways for anyone else, or is it just me?
ETA - Okay, does this really keep my formatting when you click the cut-tag, rather than just give you the basic white-screen thing? And how do I get it to stop that?
Sooooo...things have been moving apace, I feel. I've found an apartment, and it is awesome! Though it is technically a studio apartment (because there is no door between the living room and bedroom, just a doorway), it's *huge*! It's definitely bigger than the apartment I have now. The bedroom is 9 by *16 1/2* feet! Huge! I'm so excited!
Also, I have a job interview tomorrow. Wish me luck! had a job interview today, because I forgot to post this last night. Oops.
Also, I'll be living less than 20 minutes from my best friend! We haven't lived this close since...somewhere around six years ago. So that's exciting.
Less good is the fact I'm moving Monday, and therefore have a *lot* of packing to do in the next five days.
So yea, that happened. I also spent the last week visiting my parents, which was nice.
Soooo...I have been Ms. Absent lately, but I have a good reason! I am graduating in 3 weeks! So, yea. That's my news. I'm getting a degree in English and a Minor in Queer Studies.
So, expect me to be just as absent for the next month, or so, but then, hopefully I'll be back!
I have a question for those on my flist with tattoos. Does anyone know of a good tattoo concealer? Googling has led me to many, but I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience with any that they can recommend. Probably the thing I'm most worried about is that it won't rub off on my clothes. (I have a *beautiful* new dress, and certainly don't want to get makeup on it if I cover up a tattoo.)
Anyway, thanks for any help or advice you might have. :D
In related news, Sunday I'm starting on my back tattoo. It will be wonderful.
Hooooooookay! So, I'm trying to decide whether or not to apply to grad school. I ultimately want to work as a copy editor for fiction books, or an editor for comic books. I do not know, however, if grad school will be beneficial toward these goals.
Soooo, people who know stuff about stuff: tell me what to do! Give me advice! (Please!)
In slightly related news, next term I will be taking a class about robots. ROBOTS! I am very excited.
I have also decided to do that name-five-happy-things-from-your-day thing I've seen around LiveJournal, though I won't start that until...possibly tomorrow.
So, I can't promise I'll get holiday cards out this year, but I'm sure going to try. So if you would like a (potential) holiday card, please leave your address. I have screened comments. Also, please let me know if you would like a Christmas card, a non-Christmas Holiday card, or a Winter card.
I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who filled out my folklore survey. I turned my paper in yesterday, and it was AWESOME (if I do say so myself).
I'm writing a paper for my folklore class about BDSM, and the information/misinformation that is shared about BDSM...things like that. Anyway, I would love it if anyone who is interested would fill out a survey for me.
My mom recently gave me a crock pot, which I used for the first time last night to make pot roast.
Holy pacholies, it is delicious! I feel like a wonderful cook now, even though I know all I really did was stick the thing in the crock pot. But mmm-mmm, it is tasty.
Also, I'm finally pretty much over being sick, so that's nice.
And now, the meme which I gakked from pretty much everyone.
The problem with LJ: We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about one another. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Well, itsabigrock and I went to see Christian Kane in concert. (Like a week ago. What? Don't judge me!) It was awesome! Many of her friends were there, who were all awesome as well.
Then, yesterday, I did suspension. That's right. That was awesome too.
I don't really have any good pictures of the suspension, itself, only the before and after, as it was dark, and my camera is sometimes temperamental. (which, wow, I did not know was spelled that way until right this minute.)
Anyway, It was great, and I've been feeling pretty mellow all day today because of it. (Also very sore). May write more about it when I'm feeling just a little less mellow, and am therefore having an easier time forming sentences.
Also looking forward to school starting again, especially because this term will be full of awesome classes, such as "Queer Early Modern Lit." Only two more weeks.
Oh! And I ordered Cassidy Haley's CD from his ebay store, and it arrived...ummm...Tuesday. I am enjoying it. Only 6 tracks, but fun, nonetheless.
So yea, really, really late Writercon post...but eh, that's kinda how I do things. :)
So...had the most amazing time. As soon as it was over, I just wanted it to be Writercon time again. Was very nervous about going, of course, as it was my first time, but everyone was amazingly open and friendly, and just helped make it the best time, ever. Just the feeling of Writercon was super laid back and friendly and wonderful, and I want that feeling in my whole life. I especially enjoyed the cocktail party and my time in the consuite (which was plenteous).
Also, had hummus for the first time, and am now madly in love. Mmmm, hummus.
escritoireazul, and nikitangel: I have a lovely picture of you and itsabigrock, so please let me know if it's okay to post it. (If not, I can email it to you, instead, if you want it).
Met many, many other wonderful people, including, but not limited to: tty63, alixtii, mosca, viciouswishes, bastardsnow, (which it turns out is a name about snow, rather than the immediacy of bastards...go figure) as well as my super amazing roommate, _beetle_. (if I've forgotten someone, I'm really sorry, and just let me know: preferably not by way of cyber poking me in the eye).
Also met the lovely ladycat777, who has been on my flist forever, so that was pretty darn exciting.
I had curry for the first time, which I found delicious, though very spicy.
I went to quite a few panels, most of which I enjoyed immensely. A couple were different than I though they would be, though that was mostly due to my reading the summary of what they would be, and somehow understanding it completely incorrectly. The summaries weren't especially difficult to understand; I just apparently have a talent for misconstruing. I especially enjoyed "How explicit is too explicit" which was fun and hilarious. I also loved the "Science for English Majors" panel which was super informative (as well as fun and hilarious).
I had some talks with a few people about writing (as you do), and am now feeling much better about my own writing, and more motivated to write something, soon.
So, all in all, I had a darn awesome time, met some darn awesome people, and am already very excited about the next Writercon.
Until school is out for the summer. At this point, I'm not quite sure I'll make it.
Also, seriously, Livejournal - 13 Russian bots friending me in one day is a wee bit much, don't you think?
Happier things:
- Going to WriterCon this summer!!! (Also, finally found a roommate for same.)
- Am finally caught up on my friends list.
- Was offered a paid internship working with the main editor on a newsletter at my school. Sadly, I don't think I can make the time commitment, and will have to turn it down. Will probably offer to volunteer some time, though.
- Made some one piece pajamas! (YAY! Supersoftcomfyyum.) Sadly, cannot wear until it isn't so darn hot!
- Reading Pride and Prejudice! I've never read it, and am very excited.
I will never, never get caught up on my flist, I feel. But will I give up and just start afresh? No, I will not. Because I - am very, very stubborn. *sigh*
Really I'm only a week behind, now, so I'll get there someday, but if there's anything super important happening that I'm missing, let me know. :)
