Sims 3 has been taking up a lot of my free time, mostly due to the excellent free custom content offered by generous members of the Sims community. Here's a list of custom content links that get the most visits from me:

Mod The Sims
Garden of Shadows
My Sim 3 Blog
The Sims 3 Daily Download
Back Alley Sims (Adult Content)
The Sims Cave
More Awesome Than You

Mods I couldn't play the game without:
Crazy Town
Awesomemod

A very helpful website for house creation inspiration:
ePlans

One custom content site that will never get a single click from me is The Sims Resource (TSR), due to what in my opinion are shady business practices. Check out the following link for details:
The True Face of TSR

Thanks to a comment on [staff profile] denise's journal by [personal profile] elfy, I have found a wonderful website. In particular, the posts tagged modern mythologies are what have my interest. Although I do love traditional myths, the idea of modernizing the stories/locations/creatures/players has great appeal.

Divinities

About this entry: Acropolis Machina is a series of stories, places, and entities that have regularly popped up in my dreams since I was a kid. I've always wondered if it could all be tied together into one somewhat cohesive fictional universe, so entries tagged 'acropolis machina' will be my attempt to do that.

Apcropolis Machina has a long history of individuals who choose the route of becoming a Divinity. Divinities are those who collect followers, center some form of faith around themselves, and build some manner of shrine(s) to honor themselves. A Divinity's lifespan and power is determined by the quantity and quality of their followers.

When a Divinity loses all of their followers they may choose to either pass into the afterlife, or remain in Apcropolis Machina- existing only in the realm of dreams. If they can inspire someone through dream manipulation to become a follower, they may eventually become a tangible Divinity once again.

If a Divinity chooses to pass into the afterlife, they leave behind an artifact. This artifact is very powerful- and the use of it can change someone into a Divinity, as story of its holder (and their exploits) spread.

Weir's Gate is a landmark of Apcropolis Machina. It is a massive gyroscope, standing thirteen stories tall. When active, the gyroscope spins faster and faster, until the inside of its' frame is filled with an energy that has the appearance of a fusion between water and electricity.

When active, Weir's Gate creates a interdimensional gateway, allowing passage from other universes. However, there is a catch. Much like the location mentioned in Hotel California, the gateway works only as a passageway to Acropolis Machina, never as a exit from. The commonly used term for beings who have come to Acropolis Machina via Weir's gate is Navigates. The slang for such individuals (usually meant as an insult) is Gatejacks.

Melodies can manipulate sound and emotion. They are unnaturally gifted in performance arts. An unawakened Melody can only be awakened by hearing the song of an awakened Melody (the song must be sung in person, not recorded). Unawakened Melodies have an aura that looks like a tightly coiled metallic spiral to awakened Melodies. When awakening, the Melody will sing a song that stirs overwhelming emotion.

There is a prophecy among Melodies that states one will be born who can create guardian beings of pure sound and emotion. This chosen one is said to be important in deciding the outcome of an end of the world prophecy referred to only as Winter's Eclipse. Many Melodies have dedicated their lives to seeking out the one who would fulfill this prophecy.

A group of beings know as Gunters, each with a specialized soul-forged weapon. Becoming a Gunter allows one instant access to Acropolis Machina. The only way to awaken a Gunter is to strike them with a soul-forged weapon. Unawakened Gunters display a fragmented metallic aura that only awakened Gunters can see.

When awakening, the awakening Gunter's weapon is inspired by their environment- usually something they have on their person.

There is a prophecy among Gunters that states twins will be born who would awaken with two weapons instead of just one. The first half of this Gunter pair would have a revblade and a lucent shield. The other half of the pair would have a cipherblade and a lucent shield. These two are said to be important in deciding the outcome of an end of the world prophecy referred to only as Winter's Eclipse. Many Gunters have dedicated their lives to seeking out the twins who would fulfill this prophecy.

The Royal Family:
The royal family were not born into their position; the castle manipulates events to bring them into the family. Once there, a member of the royal family is struck incapable of ever conceiving children, but given a greatly lengthened lifespan. They are the governing body of Acropolis Machina- and all family members must be in agreement in order to alter, remove, or create the laws that govern AM.

Current Royal Family:
Sovereign Basilah- Sovereign Basilah stands at 6'1" tall. Her skin is quite dark and her build waif thin. Long limbs and unusually long fingers add to the slightly skeletal appearance. She has large eyes, a generous nose, and a wide-set mouth. Her hair is jet black and worn very closely cropped.

Lady Coleta - Lady Coleta stands at 5"6" tall. She has a round, cherubic face with full lips and bright hazel eyes. Her build is plump, and her shoulders broad. Her skin has a rich coffee-colored tone. Her hair is chestnut brown and set into long, thick ringlets.

Dandy Jin - Dandy Jin stands at 5"9" tall. His cheekbones are high, his smile broad, and his green eyes almond-shaped. He has an athletic build and broad shoulders. His skin is pale with a slight golden tone.

Aleck - Aleck stands at 4"1". Although once rather wiry, his stay at the castle has made him a bit chubby. Despite this, he is still unusually graceful and quite quick. His hair is bright red, and worn in dreadlocks. He has a very ruddy freckled complexion, with a permanent swath of blushing red across the cheeks and nose. He is an orphaned street urchin.

Castle Acropolis:

Opening Tale:
Aleck crept into the royal castle and stole a coin said to hold great magical power. While attempting to leave, Aleck ran into Jin (literally). Wishing not to be caught, Aleck caused the coin to transform Jin into an irreversible ghostly state.

Sovereign Basilah came upon the scene shortly after, and upon seeing the coin realized what had happened. Not wanting to fall victim to the coin's powers as well, Sovereign Basilah quickly made a deal with Aleck. She would adopt him into the royal family and in exchange Aleck would never use the coin against the royal family again.

Lady Coleta and Jin were not happy with the arrangement, but chose to honor it for lack of a better alternative. Both secretly conspire to find a way to convince Aleck to willingly give them the coin.

Moving In

Thanks to the migration of Scans Daily, I finally broke down and got an online journal. I'm not sure yet what will be done with this journal (outside of Scans Daily, of course). Having a place to jot down random thoughts, events, and anecdotes seems interesting enough, so I'll probably just stick with that for a bit.
