I thought that was safer than the philosophical essay about consciousness and self-awareness I was about to embark on.

I'm white, born Scandinavian, Australian by choice. I'm biologically female but have about as much "gender identification" as "handedness identification" (I'm left-handed) and "toe length identification" (my second toes are significantly longer than my first toes). I am fascinated by gender, because I have to be, partly in self-defence. I also identify as kinesthetic and an atheist.

I'm not currently posting regularly. If you have a relationship with me that means you like roughly-daily pings that I am still alive, you probably know my birth name, under which I have a facebook account where such pings are transmitted. I prefer to keep that name and this one unlinked, thank you.

Soon, I hope to get this journal back to my discussion of evolution, genetics, and scientific ability, in men and women. Because this issue is often discussed by people (generally men) who have more confidence in their knowledge than actual knowledge, I've set all comments by non-friends (LJ) or anonymous (DW) to be screened. That doesn't mean you're not welcome. All remotely sensible comments will be unscreened.

Note that the argument originated on rec.arts.sf.composition (which I refer to as rasfc), but there's a newsgroup policy to move arguments that people get passionate about to rasfm. It's "the other room" at the party.
