That was Canada Day

We have been experiencing quite a heat wave, so we had no intention of partaking in any of the Canada Day events. I did wear my maple leaf shirt around the house, even when watching Wimbledon.

Eventually, some people did see the shirt although they made no comment. Jonathan and friends had gone out for a walk and ended up here to hydrate and cool off. And eat chips and skittles.

After some games, the four of them put their heads together to finish our jigsaw puzzle.

It's really Sue's jigsaw, and not ours, but I do occasionally try to help a bit. I was glad for the kids to fit the final pieces.

Back to Canada Day: the town's outdoor festivities would not have gone all that well. In addition to the heat of 33C/91F, there were several downpours (see photo). How disappointing for the town and for those who made an effort to attend, especially the kids!

They did go ahead with the fireworks after the rain stopped, and I did try shooting with the phone, but it did not do well in that kind of situation. These ↓ are some of the better shots, if you please. I was dubious about getting anything, so I am not really disappointed. I don't mind posting them here, but I am not sure if I would post any of them to Flickr although the third one isn't too terrible.

What a fulll day, with young snickers solving puzzles, then a great shot of your shirt and rain, only to cap it all off with fireworks. And the tree silhouettes looks great with fireworks!

It's such a shame for the organisers when the weather spoils a long-planned event.

We've been having oodles of rain too -- I'm glad the fireworks finally occurred. Love the games and that looks like a good puzzle. I wore my maple leaf shirt and saluted you and my other Canadian pals!

Between the heat and the storms, it was probably best. Looks like you enjoyed the day anyway! Good job with the fireworks. I heard them last night here between storms.

I think your fireworks pics turned out quite well. I’m usually impressed by what a cell phone camera will do!

    I like the fireworks pictures.
We haven't had any rain in a while but monsoon season starts soon so maybe we will next month.

I think the fireworks photos are great! I can't take a decent one to save my life. The weather sounds miserable. :(

Our Fourth of July looks like it will play out much like your Canada Day: heavy thunderstorms and rain for most of the day.

Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate in this heat

It's super that kids can come to your house and spend some good time.

Nice to see the young people! Ours are so busy!
Your shirt is fabulous. Joe wore his around the house, too. We are trying to cool off.

We had a heatwave here too. 33C is too hot.
    And cool shirt. :)

I understand quite a few 250th 4th of July celebrations had to be cancelled or stopped for a while because of the heat. We're staying indoors in Hawaii although it's not as hot as the mainland.
