I have so many thoughts right now now that I really feel like I do need a Pensieve, because I can't sort through them myself, but I need to get them out of my head.

I got the new Brandon Sanderson book, "The Alloy of Law," and I definitely have to recommend it to all of you. It's in the same world as his Mistborn trilogy, but you don't have to read those first to enjoy this one. Obviously, he hints at things that happened in those books, but this book is set 300 years in the future from then, and the world has changed and evolved. It's very much a western/steampunk fantasy novel. The characters are fun and it is really cool to see Allomancy with revolvers and trains. It's a quick read--short for a Sanderson novel at about 350 pages. (I'm glad--now I have something I can recommend to people that won't intimidate them!)

All right, if I'm not going to get a Pottermore email, then I guess I'll just watch Wizard People, Dear Reader. That's properly HP enough, right?

So I just finished watching the first season of Hellcats and boo on CW for canceling it. That is a really fun show, much better than it should have been and so much better than it looked, wow. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Any of you watch?

I hate Monopoly.

I know it's not technically spring yet, but it's close enough that I wanted to change the LJ from winter to spring. Bye, penguins. I'm not sure how I feel about the butterflies, but it's springish. We'll see how long they last.

ETA: I keep forgetting I changed it and keep being startled when I click on my flist.

I find myself surprised by all the people who are sad about their teams after the games yesterday. I am always out of sync with everyone, what with me being a Bills fan. (I have no Bills icons because I like hockey more than football.) My hopes are always crushed at the beginning of the season and all this elimination--I forget, there are teams out there who don't have 4-12 records, who had a shot.

I just wandered over to Wikipedia. Last time we made the playoffs was 1999.

But, you know, next year. Go Bills.

I pretty much adore English50cent on Twitter. It's "a translation service for English-speaking 50cent fans" and it's hysterical.

So 50 Cent tweets things like thats the last time im ever getting on a bike im ridding a mother f**king dog came running after me and i hope this mother f**ker aint broke.it feel like i got a head ache in my leg

And then English50cent translates. Man's superiority over animals is perilous. Sometimes the tables can turn, and you fall off your bike. (Both metaphorically and actually.) and I fear for the structural integrity of my leg. Pain is pain, wherever the location. Getting these tweets always brightens my day.

Now he did a translation of In Da Club. I can't stop laughing. It's brilliant.

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" What isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do working.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! Anon commenting is (always) on, if you feel shy. Or ask your flist to ask you questions.

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? And so on.

OMG. This episode of Fringe was everything I never knew I always wanted in a television. Olivia Dunham is my absolute role model--I could not love her more. Oh, Fringe. How so awesome?

Supernatural and I are on a break.

I actually haven't watched anything since 6x02. I have 6x03 and 6x04 on my computer, but I just can't do it. I've been reading spoilers and reaction posts and for me, I can't take another "If Dean's not around, Sam can't help but be evil and trust the wrong people" storyline. I just can't. I appreciate that I'm trying to make the show into what I want it to be instead of what it is, but...yep.

Today's news post says, "Cross-posting update: We've eliminated the ability to cross-post screened comments and comments on protected entries to Facebook and Twitter for all users (i.e., both Cyrillic and non-Cyrillic). As a result of this change, only public content can be cross-posted through this feature."

wendymr posted a fix for seeing the Facebook/Twitter boxes when you post a new entry. It doesn't address the security and privacy thing, but it gets rid of them so you don't have to look at them, and I love it.

Adorable. If you use the Greasemonkey script to keep from seeing those Facebook/Twitter boxes, you can't choose to post anonymously on communities like fandomsecrets.

Lots of people are at Dragon*Con.

There's a little line of code you can use to make it so that no one, no matter what browser they're using, can repost comments.

1. Go to Custom CSS in Customize Journal Style. (I think if you click this it should take you there.)

2. Copy and paste .b-repost-item {display:none} into the Custom stylesheet box and save changes.

It apparently has been working for some people, so sharing the info.

So people who know more than I have been looking at it (in the comments) and it appears this is actually not that helpful; it just gets rid of the boxes, like the Greasemonkey script, but doesn't prevent the crosspost.

But it can make it more difficult for people to get to the crosspost boxes, so there's that.

Wow, this finale left me so much happier than last season's. :)

Just saw Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie LIVE and in person. So much fun, such a blast. We weren't close enough that we got pulled on stage to do anything (thank goodness, I have to say), but Brad came out to the audience during the sound effect game and said he was passing a microphone down a row and each person would make one sound effect and it wound up being our row! Making one sound effect was exactly enough pressure for me to handle. ;)

Just a brilliant time. If they're heading to your area, I highly recommend seeing them.

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: I guess Bobby? I mean, from his first appearance, I wouldn't have guessed that I would just adore him.
The character everyone else loves that I don't: Castiel. Okay, not everyone loves him, but the vast majority do, and I am just so "eh" about him.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Ruby! Again, not everyone loves her, but at winchestmidwest, I think there were only two of us who would admit to being fans. ;)
The character I used to love but don't any longer: I used to like John more than I do now, but I never loved him.
The character I would shag anytime: Sam and Dean (but not at the same time)
The character I'd want to be like: I guess Sarah Blake. She's a "normal civilian," but when she finds out what's going on, she helps and takes care of business. Same thing with Madison. But Sarah's still alive, so, you know, I like that better.

So I just got a Review Alert on one of the first stories I ever uploaded on fanfiction.net, and when I went to go reply, I saw the last review was from September 25, 2002. The story was originally uploaded May 27, 2000.

And someone still leaves a review now, nine and a half years after I wrote it.

The mind, it boggles.
