Character (Native OC)
Name: Sylvarie Aila Jue
Age: 17 going on 18
Gender: Female.
Home: The Royal City of Myste Aura
History:
The Jue family got its start when its founder, Walter Sigmund, was granted knighthood by the king for his good deeds and renown as a Paladin dedicated to the wellbeing of the crown. But rather than try to climb further up the social ladder or gain more power, the family insisted on instilling values of humility, chivalry and loyalty to family and those they served. While the subsequent generations kept to the teachings, one son was not satisfied a life of servitude and absconded. When the current lead of the family, Reginhart Idris, found himself having difficulty conceiving child with his beloved wife Evangelyn, he discovered the descendant of the his renegade cousin. Though the boy was young at six years old, he displayed maturity and desire to atone for his father's foolishness. Thus Reginhart took him in as the next heir and raised him appropriately, until the day five years later when a daughter was born—Sylvarie.

At first the parents were uncertain of how to raise her, given she was the first girl born into the family since its founding. The son also found himself jealous of the possible usurper, up until it was decided that he would remain the heir and the two would be raised as siblings, which he also saw as an opportunity to prove himself as an upcoming paladin by protecting the young lady. Thus Sylvarie was raised appropriately, often shielded from the outside world and escorted by either her mother or brother. Meanwhile Reginhart would often travel to Von Oktavia for the sake of tending to and teaching at the guild there. Things were further resolved when at the age of five, it was realised Sylvarie had a strong affinity for magic and proclaimed a desire to her beloved mother's footsteps in becoming a White Mage. This allowed each parent to focus on each child's path respectively, and the arrangement worked well for all.

However, that wasn't all their life. Evangelyn had been raised in Yun'Ashia, and had a love for the arts she insisted on passing on to the children, beginning with the demand the family live primarily in the Royal City so they could be as exposed to it as possible. The family would travel whenever time and income allowed it, and it was during one such trip to Yun'Ashia when she was six that Sylvarie accidentally snuck up upon a boy named Sakuya, shortly before a show. Drawn by the beauty of his singing, she apologised when she was discovered but made no efforts to hide her appreciation and awe of his abilities. The two spoke for some time and shared stories about one another, of dreams in the making. While Sylvarie did confide wanting to become a fully fledged White Mage, something in Sakuya's voice had triggered in her feelings of longing and nostalgia. Therefore when he declared his wish to be in the theatre she poured her heart into voicing her support, and thus Sylvarie made her first friend—even if they could only communicated through letter and later mognet in the years to follow.

Immediately after her training to become a White Mage began, starting with basic first aid in Nakagawa—which proved to be the better route as her initial idea of applying potions involved practically smashing one over the head of a local boy, which was sadly not healed when she tried to to sing it better. Her training would hardly be limited to there, as she shadowed her mother in Lavode and Mad'ni Shrine, at times even helping members of the Paladin Guild when she visited her father. Wherever Evangelyn was needed, Sylvarie was not far in tow. Despite each parent dedicating themselves to the education of the children in their respective craft, they were fairly close and visited one another whenever they could. Though Sylvarie missed her family when they were separated, she reassured herself that as long as she could fulfil her objective she would be able to someday join and travel with them, able to make her own unique contribution to the family legacy.

Then things changed dramatically on the eve of her eighth birthday. En route to Von Oktavia, the boat Sylvarie and her mother had boarded encountered an Octopus at sea. Fortunately there were various capable fighters on board, and trailing behind on another boat were more including her father and brother. The situation seemingly manageable, what the crew never realised was that a Marine Hamster had made its home aboard. Its slumber disturbed, the people were no match for the combined forced. While some might call it a miracle that a handful of the passengers survived, Sylvarie herself surprisingly unscathed, her perception was anything but when she found herself still shielded by her mother's body.

From that day forward the family began to fall apart. In the immediate aftermath Reginhart and his son got into a dangerous argument, with the latter accusing the former of incompetence out of anger for failing to protect his family. The end result was that Sylvarie's brother—forsaking his title as the family heir and duties—declared that there was nothing of value left to learn from Reginhart and that he would go to Sen Devadatta to gain the strength to remold the family. Before anyone could go after and persuade him back, the empire closed its borders. Thus Reginhart was left with sole responsibility of raising the temporarily mute Sylvarie. But with his wife gone and the subsequent fallout, gone was the warm and open father Sylvarie had known, replaced by a cold and distant person who seldom connected with his remaining family, preferring to place his efforts into paladin duties.

Shortly before the fateful trip, Sylvarie's parents had been looking to hire a moogle nanny for their daughter. Thus Reginhart sent for one by the name of Primrose Kupotoff to look after her in his stead when she was in the Royal City with no other instruction than to ensure she "grew to become a proper lady." It was also the start of being sent away for the sake of education, her dedicated mentor gone, and half-hearted attempts to continue her training as a White Mage. Sylvarie was unable to voice her opinion in the matters, and her visits with her father became fewer. Though she had the comfort of Sakuya's messages (a friendship Primrose didn't approve of, as she thought he was below her station), they were few when compared to the loneliness and sometimes subsequent bullying she endured at whatever abbey her father happened to have her in at the time. There were often special instructions about her treatment, that she not be allowed to mingle with other children, which made their perception of her worse. Sometimes she rebelled against her instructors, because she wanted to be with her father, but often this would lead to scoldings and letters from him asking her to not cause more trouble than necessary.

Therefore Sylvarie slowly began to learn to take care of herself as much as she was allowed and able to, distancing herself from any potential friends and focusing wholeheartedly on her studies with the belief she could maybe still join her father someday. It was during these times that she recalled Sakuya's singing, and slowly came to sing what felt oddly like half-forgotten tunes to herself in private to the night sky, for which she would sometimes be scolded too if she was overheard. Because she made such efforts in being as out of the way as possible for her caretakers and staff of whatever locale she happened to be staying within at the time, sometimes she would hear others gossip about her—or rather, her family. The talk about her she endured in silence, often taking their criticisms and complaints to heart, there were more worrying things she heard. While it seemed her father continued to be the quality of paladin expected of the Jue, his indifference was clear to anyone who encountered him, some going as far as accusing him of recklessness.

This news frightened Sylvarie—after all, her father was the only family she had left despite the physical and emotional distance growing between them over the years. Now older and recognising she would have to do more to establish herself as her own individual, she made another vow—to become a paladin that would make her father proud, and perhaps reinvigorate the person he once was. The wish was not necessarily born out of a desire to save the family name and reputation—she'd seen for herself the devastation those expectations could cause through her brother—but to prove to her father, and to herself, that the teachings passed down their family hadn't been in vain. She could still become a daughter to be proud of.

Except the idea wasn't met with enthusiasm. When Primrose caught Sylvarie practicing the sword, she predictably informed Reginhart of his daughter's newest act of rebellion. The man went to the extent of visiting Sylvarie at the family home in the Royal City for the first time in the seven years of Evangelyn's death. Though overjoyed to see her father home, Sylvarie stood her ground when he attempted to persuade her away from the path of a paladin. She explained how her desire wasn't to restore the family name and honour, it was to have the opportunity to become the woman her parents had raised and taught her to to be. Though they couldn't come to an agreement, at the very least Reginhart hadn't outright forbidden her from learning. For Sylvarie, this was victory enough.

But there were other plans in store for her. Now in her midteens, her tutors and Primrose became more insistent that Sylvarie learn the ways of society—if there was no restoring her family through, then she could at the very least contribute into another by marrying into one. Much to her dismay, this idea was supported by Reginhart, and it became harder to focus on either of her paths when everyone was insistent adapt. It was all the more worse when the messages from possible suitors began. Becoming more and more frustrated, she eventually wrote to her father that she could no longer endure representing the family home if this was what her life would become, further driven by the approach of the tenth anniversary of her mother's death. Surely her mother wouldn't have wanted all her training and dedication to go to waste by becoming someone's wife to sit at home, and she still held on to the strong desire to help others to avoid unnecessary suffering. Without waiting for a response or instructions from Reginhart, she made the decision to move out on her own. Though she didn't have any money yet that wasn't her father's, Sylvarie had established enough skill as in first aid to be able to gather some income to travel to Lavode and finally unlock the chance to become a White Mage. While there she heard of the Curti Center seeking employment. Jumping on the opportunity, she travelled to the place she had always been inexplicably drawn to but never had the chance to visit.

Recognising that this may be a means to help others as she wanted to, Sylvarie sought a position there. Unfortunately, she was still underage and at the mercy of her father—who predictably didn't approve. Threatening to run away again, Reginhart eventually gave in, but with one peculiar condition that was non-negotiable. Rather than have a random moogle assigned to her, Primrose insisted she accompany Sylvarie as she was the "only one capable to looking after Lady Jue, kupo!" Though not pleased, Sylvarie knew it was the closest she would have to some freedom. Now, she could only hope that the opportunities to help others come to fruition...

Personality:
The circumstances and upbringing between Tear and Sylvarie can be said to differ greatly, but in truth there are vast similarities to them. Having been raised in a family that instilled such humble values, Sylvarie's desire to be of help and eagerness to learn meant she took to them quickly, much in the way Tear had wanted to dedicate herself to being by her brother's side and aiding him as best she could. A great difference, however, lies in the fact that Sylvarie had a family in her formative years, therefore her entire life wasn't about loss even if she would soon enough experience it. Though her brother's protective nature meant that she could be shy and sheltered, Sylvarie had at the very least inherited a natural sense of honesty to her, which allowed her to vocalise appreciation for a person's talents and efforts even if somewhat hesitantly at first. Surprisingly, or perhaps not so, it also meant she could be blunt if circumstances and familiarity allowed.

Another consequence of this upbringing was that Sylvarie could have moments of innocence and being gullible. Though she had received good education, ensuring she was at the very least book smart, that didn't necessarily translate to being street smart despite living in a variety of locales across Myste Aura the past several years. True, she would learn of the local customs and geography by proxy, but without being allowed to explore the world on her own there was only so much she could know. Thanks to her natural eagerness however, this meant she was at least quick to learn and being exposed to different peoples also granted her with the knowledge of how to navigate social situations—but little beyond that. Being aware of social etiquette did not necessarily translate into knowing how to handle more casual interactions, and thanks to her sheltered upbringing she can sometimes crumble into shy embarrassment should a conversation be turned toward her personal wants or needs.

After all, she had been raised to place others first and fell into that pattern naturally, and being so focused on trying to reach through to her father over the past several years meant that Sylvarie had been unable to properly focus on any other wants she may have been harbouring without her knowledge. In a sense, she is already failing in 'becoming her own person' as she had told her father she would become. This often leads to Sylvarie having moments of self-doubt regarding her own incompetence and chastising herself, not unlike her former incarnation. She had been trained and raised better, and she did still have a sense of pride as a member of the Jue household despite her claims that her recent excursion into becoming a Paladin had nothing to do with a desire to restore her family's honour. Sylvarie has a strange sense of wanting to be independent and capable of taking care of herself born from the death of her mother, for she quickly realised that she would have to because there was no one to do it for her. Her family gone, the staff coming and going, and tutors always changing, Sylvarie had to learn to make it on her own in a sense, and adjust to loneliness.

That isn't to say she's incapable of joy. Thanks to her experiences and what it meant to be a "proper lady" (by Primrose's standards), Sylvarie's emotional expressions were always subdued. Though this had the capability of changing depending on the familiarity of whoever she spoke to, there were simply too few people in this small circle to behave as such around. So she learned to keep her true thoughts to herself, to be a good girl and not cause any trouble, but in those moments she encountered a fluffy chocobo or Primrose allowed her the rare treat of brushing her fur, she has difficulty in containing her expected reserve. Nonetheless, one could call her genuine in her emotions.

Which also means she has every capability of being stubborn. If she is convinced something is right, a person would have to provide hard proof to make her change her mind otherwise, or to deter her from approaching a goal she may have set her mind to. This is where her bluntness could come in, because it was better to be upfront about the situation and truth than to lie to a person, in her mind.

Their Past Self
Name: Mystearica Aura Fende ( Tear Grants )
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Game History: Melodies of Life
Tear was amongst the group who appeared at the Crystal of Wind toward the end of the first year, and was right away met with conflicting feelings—after all, she had been on the cusp of fulfilling what she believed to be her life's mission, and held one of the crucial components in stopping the destruction of the world at her brother's hand. But fortunately for her, there were others from Auldrant already present in Crystallis to make the transition easier, namely Luke fon Fabre and Jade Curtiss. Much of her first weeks were spent catching up with them, particularly with Luke whom she sadly realised was in love with another person. She also had to reconcile the fact that another version of herself had been present in Crystallis before, and she was left to deal with the lasting impressions and relationships left behind by her other self. It was awkward to deal with at best, particularly given it mirrored some of the circumstances surrounding replicas back in Auldrant.

But Tear was never one to remain idle for long, and she helped with the exploration of Stiltzkin's Castle before it was consumed by the Calamity and helped in preparations for the upcoming battle with the Empire. When the attack happened Tear focused efforts on evacuating the people to safety and defense, and therefore did not have the misfortune of feeling personally betrayed by Jessie when the Ultima Weapon was stolen and the heroes were sent back in time. But the events of that summer led her to continue pursuing military employment for the sake of being able to help and protect others. The more she learned about Crystallis, the more she recognised that in order to protect Auldrant she needed to save the world she was within first—as the new year arrived, she vowed to make the most out of her time in Crystallis.

But then came the Sage's vision of a possible future. In it, Tear found herself on the side of those in favour of sacrificing many crystallised Heroes in exchange for buying Crystallis more time. The plan got as far as finding where the Heroes had been hidden away, only to be felled when she protected Jade long enough for him to mutate into a monster. The entire experience left her shaken to say the least, and determined to avert it through any means necessary—even her own life. Shortly after, she found herself recognising she was in love with someone new, and despite all fears she allowed herself to engage in it.

But the Sage's vision wasn't the last of what Crystallis had planned for her. As it turned out, several of her companions (Luke, Guy and Natalia in particular) were amongst a group of Heroes who had spent several months wandering the world and struggling to survive. Though grateful to meet them again, it was short-lived when they crystallised after one week—Luke himself outright died. Quietly lamenting her inability to do anything, matters were made worse when she unwittingly learned Melodies of Death alongside the other Heroes after watching a video left behind by Kalki. Not long after she fell into Crystal Stasis for the first time, lasting roughly a month, then having the experience repeat itself again later in the summer. She was able to wake up for one final encounter with the traitor Palitutu in the Calm Plains, only to be banished into the Interdimensional Rift with the other Heroes.

Strangely, they were given opportunities to visit other worlds and she helped Jade to take advantage of that, going to Auldrant to retrieve information about the Planet Storm even though it meant enduring her poisoned body. But it wasn't all she got out of the experience, as she also got to visit Orience—and it was there she discovered the truth about her partner's world and his fate. Though she felt betrayed to the point she would barely speak to him in the month to follow, Tear still was able to ground herself enough to call forth a vision when the group found themselves arguing over Palitutu's fate. It was perhaps the decision most pivotal of her time spent in Crystallis, because if she was wrong then she would have a hand in dooming the future of the world. But the vision she saw, though confusing without context, seemed promising enough, and she requested Palitutu be spared despite being in favour of her death before. If there was one thing she had learned in Auldrant that kept reaffirming itself in Crystallis, it was that the future wasn't set.

Afterward Tear continued to dedicate her efforts to joining various efforts in preserving Crystallis from the Calamity, including an unfortunate expedition to Downapolis where she found herself under the control of another Bard to fight against her companions. Though she had had mixed feelings about the Job since the discovery that Kalki was the one to create it, Tear was still determined to use it for good and to help the efforts of others as best she could. The experience made her even more wary of how she could do more ill than good, thus she was comfortable with continuing the role of support rather than moving to the forefront whenever plans for inevitable battles occurred.

When the time came to battle Chaos she was gravely injured, only to be forced into a sleep by Carbuncle for five years until the time came that they could confront Kalki one final time. Before that could occur Tear lost track of her partner, and though she worried constantly about his whereabouts she continued with her resolve to press forward and not wait any longer. When Kalki was defeated, Shakyamuni asked for one final sacrifice from the Heroes—four lives, in exchange for the rejuvenation of the Crystal and to free the Calamity of its torment. Reflecting on her experiences in Crystallis and out of a desire to set things right, so no one else would need to suffer, Tear offered herself. Though she was afraid and had not yet faced her death compared to the other three, she wouldn't have it any other way as she sang one final prayer for the future before her time came to a stop.

Personality:
Staid, reserved, cold—this is the impression Tear gives off when she first infiltrates Fabre Manor with the intention of killing Van Grants, decorated member of the Oracle Knights. But rather than fulfill her objective, Tear accidentally spirits herself and the Duke’s son, Luke fon Fabre, halfway across the world into enemy territory. When she realizes her error, she takes it upon herself to ensure Luke returns home safely, given it was her blunder that forced him into the unfamiliar situation to begin with.

And this is where we begin to see that she is much more than those three words, than the initial impression of a heartless soldier she gives.

All things considered, Tear is a woman who was forced to grow up quickly. It’s clear from the start that she takes her image and role as a soldier seriously, and truth be told she does it very well. Tear takes her duty and promises seriously, able to kill without hesitation and risking her own safety to protect others. For Tear, open displays of emotion were often considered a weakness, so even when she wants to cry she keeps a stiff upper lip and continues striving forward, no matter how much it costs her. It takes a lot of prodding for her to open up and be honest about her own feelings, because she feels that if she is not able to uphold that reserve then she is not fit to become an ‘ideal soldier’, whom to her was her first instructor Legretta the Quick. This is an ideal she reached for from a young age, when she decided she would take the path to becoming a soldier in order to be by Van’s side. Another consequence of this decision was that she was further ostracized by the people of Yulia City, and the end result is that Tear is very serious and a bit socially awkward. She sometimes takes things a little too literally, and her understanding of humor is a little stunted. Having had to essentially take care of herself, she has high expectations of other people and often becomes frustrated when they are not met, or if a person happens to refuse to take responsibility. This is often when her bluntness and sometimes brutal honesty shines through, because it's better that a person understands the situation no matter how unpleasant it might be, or how much they may not want to hear it.

But because she grew up alone, if someone genuinely needs help she will go out of her way to understand and teach them on their level. Tear understands what it means to be lonely, to be bullied for something that was entirely out of her control. She knows what it's like to have to make it on your own, thus she is able to do it very well and it makes her naturally protective of everyone, even if she isn't particularly fond of a person. But this can almost be a flaw because all too often, she needs help and she outright refuses to accept it because, in her mind, she should be able to handle her problems on her own. That upbringing meant that she is overall a very private and lonely person. This is different from bottling up her emotions, because this is her keeping her problems to herself.

Yet she chastises others for doing the same. Tear does have a hypocrisy to her in that, while she's always harking on others for not telling the entire truth or keeping secrets, she does it herself quite often. She asks for other people's trust, yet doesn't give it herself all that easily. This is pointed out to her several times, but even with that she ultimately still keeps quiet when it comes to her own well-being and feelings, much as Luke may be upset with her about it. One of the more prominent examples of this is following the attack on Sheridan, where she seemingly is able to move on from the attack. When she leaves the party's presence, Guy is the first to point out that despite her cold words, there were tears in her eyes. Out of everyone, she is the one most hurt by Van's machinations, by the evil deeds of a brother whom she still deeply loved tying in with how selfless she can be, and her understanding of the greater good. Much like Jade, she knows where the priorities lie and does what she must to reach them, though she does understand the value of human life and isn't pragmatic about it to the degree the Colonel is. If she must kill then so be it, but Tear understands that to kill another is to rob them of their future, thus it's all the more important that her goals be met.

Another of Tear’s flaws is that she is, to some degree, gullible and naïve. The most prominent example of this was her devotion to Grand Maestro Mohs and insistence that he wants to avert war and is not deliberately instigating it. Even as Mohs carries on with those plans, its only when Tear is presented with undeniable proof that she acknowledges it in much the same way she didn't believe Van desired the destruction of Auldrant before she was confronted with that truth. In a sense she wants to believe in the best of people, which is why she was so hurt by Luke's attitude after the destruction of Akzeriuth. Despite her initial impression of him she was willing to give him another chance, and while her first impression of Natalia wasn't the best either, she immediately understood that the princess had a desire to learn and improve so she could better help others and her country. If there's one thing that Tear is good at, it's giving people second chances. Humans make mistakes, and it is important that they learn from their mistakes and strive forward from them. She herself goes by these rules, apologising when she was wrong or misunderstood someone.

This is one of the ways Tear's gentleness comes through. While she may be more on the side of tough love, we see over and over again that she is willing to be patient and explain things to someone if they are having difficulty understanding something. Heck, even as a child her ability to use the Seventh Fonon was discovered because the selenia her brother brought her was wilting, and she wanted with all her heart to make it feel better. While she may be stern about all this, it's because she wants, and knows that a person can be better.

With that in mind, it shouldn't be all that surprising that she acts with a sisterly, and even motherly nature toward others and especially to the party as they grow closer. She lends her listening ear to Natalia several times over the course of the story, and has no problem with helping to cheer her up by taking out to the city with Anise after the true nature of her parentage is revealed. When it comes to Anise, the younger girl nearly reveals her nature as a spy before the events of Mt. Zaleho happened, because Tear would have the patience and understanding to listen and even help her. The party trusts her to look after them, and Susanne Fabre even titles her as "big sister" because of how much she takes care of them.

Thus if it means the wellbeing of another, Tear does whatever it takes. As pointed out before, she puts her desires and feelings second always, and even risks her life to protect other people. As a girl, when she was bullied by Alissa for taking up so much of her mother's time Tear immediately apologises even though she has no fault, willing to have Teodoro ask Jessie to not look after her so much. The first time she places the world above herself is when she decides to take it upon herself to put a stop to Van before he went through with his plans, even though he was her only family and it would likely cost her her own life. Yet the biggest example of this is how she was willing to endure miasma poisoning in order to lower the Outer Lands, understanding that if she didn't then the entirety of Auldrant would perish. Despite the pain it put her through, she was determined to bear the suffering so others would live, to the point that she was willing to die for it, even though she was scared to. When Luke confronted her about it, she seemingly was able to speak calmly and objectively about it until he at last broke down her resolve to keep her feelings in check; despite her best efforts to always appear strong, Tear begins to cry because she is still a human, and is still a teenage girl forced to carry on great responsibilities—she can be overwhelmed much like anyone else can. Tear has slowly come to terms with being able to express her emotions, even if she still has a ways to go. She is still a naturally shy girl after all, for all that the soldier persona says otherwise.

And just how is she still a teenage girl? The most prominent example would be in her love of cute things, which in actuality is quite a broad spectrum. She shares her ancestor's fondness for cheagles, often coming to Mieu's defence when he's being teased by Jade or Luke. If she receives any compliment for her beauty she becomes flustered, or if it extends to her figure then she may become angry, to the point that she once forgets the party are on an infiltration mission and she nearly blows their cover for it. She's not entirely above using dirty tricks to get back at someone either, as she had no trouble hugging Guy's arm when he once makes a comment about her body (fortunately she stops immediately once she learned of his gynophobia). The few times she does display a sense of humour, it's often dry or at the person's expense, though Luke is most often the receiving end of this. And when it comes to her romantic affections? She can be just as easily flustered as any other girl if the target is on mark, or if she happens to notice how attractive someone is such as when she sees Jade without his glasses the first time. Also of note is just how awkward Tear herself can be, socially. If she has to act outside of the role of a serious adult and soldier, she becomes rather shy in the same way she does when she has to ask Peony to hand over a Devil's Arm, and the first personal letter she ever writes sounds more like a military report than something written by a teenager. But that is Tear's nature and upbringing in effect, and if anything she is willing and almost eager to learn.

That is why she is more than those three words and first impression. Beneath the severity of a soldier who understands what must be done and does it, there is a shy, gentle and somewhat insecure girl who secretly revels in cute things yet is almost easily flustered, with a love of the world and its people so great that she would do whatever it takes to protect it.

Melodies of Life
Life in Crystallis had its positive and negative impacts on Tear's development as a person, expanding on some of what she had already learned during her journey in Auldrant with her companions. At the beginning she was still adamant about returning to Auldrant when the opportunity arose, as she wanted to see her mission finished. But as time went on she reluctantly began to consider Crystallis her home, what with how invested she became in its future in her attempts to secure the future of all the affected worlds. To ensure that future happened, the importance of allowing others to help her when she needed it had to be further cemented, often through various battles and expeditions. Normally in the role of support, she had the misfortune of often being the target of various enemies during these fights and had to coordinate with others more than before, as opposed to taking a burden all onto herself as she was so used to even late into her journey in Auldrant.

These happenings also emphasised the importance of better communication (something she still struggled with toward the end). This was, after all, how she found herself with an unfortunate haircut during the Haunted House expedition when she briefly investigated on her own only to be the victim of a Doll, and perhaps she would not have gone down the path she had in an alternate, or at least been more open to options, had she been more upfront about how badly she was affected by the death of the person she loved.

And the event that did affect her the most was The Enemy Within—one could look at her decision to sacrifice the other Heroes as a sign that she had lost her way, but in reality it was desperation and a sense of duty to Crystallis and the worlds connected to it, for if this world died so would the others. Though she was conflicted, knowing morally it was wrong, her pragmatic and realistic mindset knew there was no other option at that point. That wasn't to say she wasn't scared of what she had the potential of becoming, as much of the rest of her decisions regarding her role in operations for the rest of her time was based in part on this possibility. As mentioned before, she became aware of the potential of the Bard job and how much it could be taken advantage of and dangerous. Nevertheless she placed all the more efforts in providing support to those who had fewer doubts in themselves than she.

Another thing the vision and subsequent fallout introduced was more awareness of loss. While it’s true that Tear had been a victim of it constantly even before she was born, she was forced to acknowledge the way it could affect her so negatively when she dealt with it poorly and refused to speak of how she truly felt. It was a further expansion of Luke once begging her to speak of how she really felt—so she began to, though much more reserved.

Which ties in with what was perhaps one of her most important developments, even if it was subtly—she learned to continue forward rather than being stuck in the past and waiting. Though it was difficult to notice at first glance, given the struggles with not having to do everything alone, Tear was slowly taking on more agency for herself rather than because she felt she had to. Much of her life she was waiting for or trying to please another, so it was time to begin doing what she wanted for herself, even if it felt strange to her. Nonetheless it still tied in with her motherly and kind nature, and it was these factors combined that moved her toward her final decision to give her life—in the alternate future she had sworn to avert no matter the personal cost to her, she was willing to sacrifice others when in reality, had she remained true to herself and not go down the extreme path her brother had, she should have offered herself first.

So that was exactly what she did, placing full faith in those who had accompanied her as she should have from the very beginning in Auldrant.

A variation of Tear's Mystic Arte, Fortune's Arc. By unleashing 4 pulsing waves of light in glyphs, Sylvarie inflicts damage to enemies caught within a 15ft radius for one turn while allies within 5ft are cured of one status effect.
Level 2: AOD increases to 20ft, and number of pulses increases to 7.
Level 3: The AOE is extended to 10ft for curing allies of status ailments.
Level 4: A 20% healing effect is included to allies within range, but at the cost of half of Sylvarie's current health.
