mood, setting the moooood!
Hi all:
Long time no write in!
I am working on something that is a genre I never thought I would
write, horror! Normally I wouldn't even dream of it, but strangely
enough, I kept having dreams of these characters and would wake up
terrified, and sweaty, just like I feel after reading the latest
Stephen King thriller, etc. This morning, after waking up after
another one of these dreams and not being able to get back to sleep
for the umteenth time, I got up and made a variety of notes. the
problem is that when I sat down to write the prologue, or start
writing the prologue, that I can't capture the feelings of dread
and terror that were in my dream. Of course it's entirely possible
that I will capture this mood more fully when I start the actual
story, but right now I feel my writing is flat, and lacks the mood I
want it to have. Do you all have any tips on creating a mood for
writing? Do you get the main story line down first, then go back
and put more mood in? I hate flat writing and fear that will be all
I get and it won't match the terror I feel.
