I saw a comment of yours complaining about fanart getting more interactions than original art, and I decided to scroll through your blog. You draw very beautifully, and I realized I feel the same way about fanfiction vs original fiction. I write original fiction and almost nobody reads it, while everyone and their dog is reading fanfiction. (Nothing against fanart and fanfiction, I just want to talk to people about my stories and seeing you have a similar complaint about art made me feel seen.) As I'm typing this it's 1pm and I still haven't had breakfast so I'm gonna eat. What inspired you to start drawing? Or do you not remember?

Aww thank you!!

And yes! original written works suffer the same fate! It’s because services like this people are searching for their fandom tags. I find people rarely search tags of general genre or media type so no matter what you tag it, it doesn’t matter because hardly anyone is bothering to search general use tags in the first place. (this is a problem in quiet a few places, not just tumblr)

And likewise, I have nothing against fanworks, but I think it’s consumed so much of our interaction with the world that many people forget to intentionally look for anything that isn’t fandom-related and we all loose a form of connection as a result.

I started drawing because I had stuff in my head I wanted to share. I had soo many thing in my mind I could visualize and the only way I could share them, was to draw them, so I drew. All of my motivation to draw is to get the stuff in my head, onto something that I can share with others.

Alright, got the art summary, here.

Admittedly have been posting less to tumblr. For a number of reasons.

It makes for a nice sketch blog but eeehhhh. I should make a point to use my Dreamwidth account for sketch-blogging instead. (and maybe pillowfort when they make spruce up their image upload tool) It’ll be better in the long run.

armaina:

Hello friends, did you know I have a discord server that I post all my art to, with ping role updates you can opt into?
https://discord.gg/YpU6hhmKWW
I like using discord a lot because I’m the social type, so I talk a lot about what I’m working on, in there.

I am a very organized type of person when it comes to spaces like this and like to keep all my art in tidy categories and threads to make browsing art posts easier and keep discussion all in one place.

If you ever wanted to talk to me at length, here’s the place to do it.

Approaching the hill

Exactly a month from now is my birthday, and I’ll be turning 40 and that’s such a weird thought.

I remember the big deal it was when my mother turned 40, I would have been 9, approaching 10, at the time.

but it doesn’t even feel like it’s been that long, I can’t even say that I feel ‘old’
Granted I know well that I still have another 40+ years ahead of me, but still.

I guess good to be mindful of how short things really are in the grand scheme of things.

Anexentum Community

Since the community feature is now public, I’ve made a community for my personal verse that my stories take place in and anyone is welcome to join.

A little FAQ

Will you still post art to your blog?

Yes absolutely, that’s not changing.

How will this be different from your art blog?

The purpose is more for community interaction than just art sharing. I’d like it to be a place for people to share fan works, discuss comic updates, create/share fan characters, and for me to host little events in addition to the occasional community-only lore drop.

A scanned page of pencil sketches drawn by OP, Armaina. Sketches are of multiple images of her character, Talon. Description of individual sketches from left to right, starting from the top. A headshot sketch of Talon look off and downward with a sullen expression. Talon seated, facing to the side. She is leaning against a table, legs crossed. One arm is leaning on the table with her head resting on the palm, the other hand is resting in her lap. She looks forlorn and sullen. A sketch of her face facing three quarters from the viewer, looking far off, her mouth is slightly parted pulled back in a grimace teeth clenched. She looks intensely strained, stressed, worried. A full-body sketch of talon standing in a light robe, looking irritated. One hand is on her hip, the other is holding a glass with a beverage of some sort. Her tail can be seen thumping against the ground. A sketch of Talon on all fours, poised to attack. Her face is looks angry and focused, mouth open with teeth bared in a snarl. A headshot of Talon from the side with her looking back. Her eyes are focused and intense, a hand is raised to wipe blood off her mouth using the back of the hand. A sketch of Talon seated leaning back, looking down and off looking sullen and tired.ALT

Been too long since I drew her so sketch page, not been drawing enough in general. The sketch on the left in her robe, IDK I think someone bothered her at home. Ertakar body language note: Thumping tail on the ground is a common sign of irritation/anger.

Image is a digital illustrated piece by the OP, Armaina. It contains her character, Naelynn, an anthropomorphic insectoid character dressed as the character Eido from Destiny 2. The scene looks in low light in a vast underground cavern. Naelynn is looking upward as luminous spores drop from the cavern's ceiling.ALT

With only a few hours left, I finally got this done before Halloween ends (in my time zone). Naelynn dressed up as Eido from Destiny 2. Even though this wouldn’t be anything ‘canon’ (since that character/reference wouldn’t exist in the setting) I still kinda made a vague background to the setting she’s in. Supposed to be some sort of luminous spores dropping from the ceiling to set to mood.
