Research suggests that fathers' involvement in their children's lives is associated with enhanced child functioning. The current study examined (a) whether presence of a father was associated with better child functioning, (b) whether children's perceptions of fathers' support was associated with better functioning, and (c) whether the above association was moderated by the father's relationship to the child, the child's race, and the child's gender. Participants included 855 six-year-old children and their caregivers. Father presence was associated with better cognitive development and greater perceived competence by the children. For children with a father figure, those who described greater father support had a stronger sense of social competence and fewer depressive symptoms. Happiness is a valuable experience, and societies want their citizens to be happy. Although this societal commitment seems laudable, overly emphasizing positivity (versus negativity) may create an unattainable emotion norm that ironically compromises individual well-being. In this multi-national study (40 countries; 7443 participants), we investigate how societal pressure to be happy and not sad predicts emotional, cognitive and clinical indicators of well-being around the world, and examine how these relations differ as a function of countries’ national happiness levels (collected from the World Happiness Report). Hearing impairment impacts fluidity of communication and social interactions and thus may contribute to loneliness. We investigated the cross-sectional association between hearing impairment and loneliness in community-dwelling older U.S. adults using data from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project ( N = 3,196). Individuals reporting fair/poor hearing had 50% (95% confidence interval [CI] = [1.09–2.05]) higher odds of any loneliness compared with those reporting excellent hearing after adjusting for comorbidity index, functional and cognitive ability, self-reported health, and demographic characteristics. Test for trend suggests a dose–response relationship over levels of hearing impairment. Hearing impairment is highly prevalent and may be an important target for consideration in interventions to reduce loneliness. Further investigation of whether treatment of hearing impairment alleviates loneliness and its disabling effects is also needed.

Background Family-Based Treatment (FBT) is considered the first-line intervention for adolescent anorexia nervosa. However, access to this treatment is limited. Treatment programs for other pediatric mental health conditions have successfully overcome barriers to accessing evidence-based intervention by integrating mental health services into primary care. Background. We aimed to study the prevalence of chronic comorbidities in asthma patients and the costs of health care use associated with asthma with comorbidities.Material and Methods. We analysed the prevalence of the four most common chronic diseases in asthma patients in 2008–2014 in Finland. Background The Distress Thermometer (DT) is worldwide the most commonly used instrument for quick screening of emotional burden in patients with cancer. In order to validate the Greek version of the DT in the Greek population we aimed to explore the capacity of the DT to identify patients with comorbid depressive diagnosis. Methods We analyzed the routinely collected clinical data from 152 patients with cancer who had been evaluated by the consultation-liaison psychiatric service and had received a diagnosis of either depressive disorder or no psychiatric diagnosis. While there is a plethora of research on the prevalence of individual chronic conditions, studies that examine the clustering of these conditions are lacking, especially among immigrant, minority groups. Background This study investigates outcomes from two federal grant programs: the Evidence-Based Tele-Behavioral Health Network Program (EB THNP) funded from September 2018 to August 2021 and the Substance Abuse Treatment Telehealth Network Grant Program (SAT TNGP) funded from September 2017 to August 2020. As part of the health services implementation program, the aims of this study were to evaluate outcomes in patient symptoms of depression and anxiety across the programs’ 17 grantees and 95 associated sites, with each program having data from telehealth patients and from an in-person comparison group. Introduction:Bipolar patients show a significant degree of psychosocial disfunction even in euthymia. Recent studies have reported deficits in Theory of Mind and emotion recognition in BD. Our hypothesis is that social cognition deficit could be associated with a poor general functioning and psychosocial disadvantage in BD.Methods:A sample of 27 euthymic bipolar patients were recluted. Almost 50% of nursing home (NH) residents have a diagnosis of depression. Meaning in life (MIL) has been shown to be a protective factor against depression. Life Story Book (LSB) is a reminiscence intervention designed to provide a person with the opportunity to review their past and capture their history, stories, and photographs into a book. LSB has had significant effects on depression and psychological well-being for persons with dementia, but there is a gap in the literature for mentally alert NH residents. For this 9-week study, a quasi-experimental switching replication design was employed with two comparable NHs (NH-A and NH-B) and 21 mentally alert residents. Learning and memory for extinction of conditioned fear is a basic mammalian mechanism for regulating negative emotion. Sleep promotes both the consolidation of memory and the regulation of emotion. Sleep can influence consolidation and modification of memories associated with both fear and its extinction. After brief overviews of the behavior and neural circuitry associated with fear conditioning, extinction learning, and extinction memory in the rodent and human, interactions of sleep with these processes will be examined. Animal and human studies suggest that sleep can serve to consolidate both fear and extinction memory. In humans, sleep also promotes generalization of extinction memory. Time-of-day effects on extinction learning and generalization are also seen. Methods This is a pragmatic, two-arm, cluster randomized trial, with the oncology ward as random assignment unit. Centers were allocated to implement a Point of Information and Support (PIS) or to a control group. The PIS included a library for cancer patients and a specifically trained oncology nurse. Second-generation Latin-American adolescents tend to show higher levels of various health-risking behaviors and emotional problems than first-generation Latin-American adolescents. This cross-sectional study of 40 mother-adolescent dyads examined the association of mother-youth acculturation gaps to youth adjustment problems. Intergenerational acculturation gaps were assessed as a bidimensional self-report component and a novel observational measurement component. According to the concept of mental health literacy, recognition of symptoms is crucial to making decisions to seek or not seek professional help. The aims of this study were to investigate the types of health problems for which Japanese adults intend to seek help, their preferred sources of help, and the factors associated with help-seeking intentions. Sleep disturbance is a common complication among patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). The prevalence of sleep disturbances and their impact on affective status, stress and pain has not been well documented among adult patients with SCD. The findings of this study suggested that sleep disturbances are common and distressing among adults with SCD. This study represents an important step in addressing sleep disturbances in this population and implications for future directions in research are discussed.

Objective: This study aims to examine the view of the practice of mindfulness as a important factor for wellbeing. Methods: An extensive systematic electronic review (Google Scholar, EBSO, JSTOR, ProQuest Science, Science Direct and Research Gate, NCBI, PsycINFO) using key words ‘Mindfulness’, ‘Hinduism’ ‘Buddhism’ and ‘Well-being’. Results: 150 published studies from 1984 to 2014 were obtained out of which 20 are reviewed. Conclusion: Mindfulness has been recommended in several scripture and religious texts as a key aspect for well-being of self. This conclusion can be validated using the various programs studied in current research that provide empirical evidence to support the statements found in the early literature. There is a need to develop a standardized training procedure for mindfulness and test it across various age groups.

Aims: the present study aimed to investigate the association between indicatives of stress, anxiety and depression with life satisfaction and purpose in life among Brazilian older adults.Methods: this cross-sectional study was conducted with 654 Brazilian older adults who responded the Life Satisfaction Scale, Purpose in Life Scale, Perceived Stress Scale, Geriatric Anxiety Inventory and the Geriatric Depression Scale.
