To provide a contemporary global prevalence of mental health issues among the general population amid the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. We searched electronic databases, preprint databases, grey literature, and unpublished studies from January 1, 2020, to June 16, 2020 (updated on July 11, 2020), with no language restrictions. Observational studies using validated measurement tools and reporting data on mental health issues among the general population were screened to identify all relevant studies. We have included information from 32 different countries and 398,771 participants. The pooled prevalence of mental health issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic varied widely across countries and regions and was higher than previous reports before the COVID-19 outbreak began. What is it like to learn to speak English as international students in the context of English as a foreign language? The article contains a short theoretical foray into defining the concepts of anxiety and self-esteem and analyzing the empirical results obtained. It was found that most preadolescents are characterized by average reactive and stable anxiety, the self-esteem of most study participants is average. Gender differences were found in the manifestation of anxiety and self-esteem in preadolescents, especially in 5th grade students. Significant indirect relation between anxiety and self-esteem in preadolescents has been demonstrated.

Antecedentes. La ansiedad por el desempeño musical es un fenómeno bien conocido en los profesionales de la música. Entre los métodos usados para abordar este problema, se encuentran las técnicas de meditación, y en particular los tratamientos basados en atención plena, se han perfilado como una opción de intervención para este grupo poblacional. Objetivos. Evaluar la factibilidad de utilizar una intervención basada en atención plena compasiva para reducir los niveles de ansiedad de rasgo y estado en estudiantes de música. Método. Se implementó un estudio experimental con un diseño pretest-postest sin grupo de comparación en el que se reclutó a veinte participantes para una intervención basada en atención plena compasiva que constó de ocho sesiones de 120 minutos cada una, impartidas una vez a la semana. Para evaluar los niveles de sintomatología ansiosa, atención plena y compasión se hicieron evaluaciones psicométricas antes y después de la intervención. De igual manera, se midieron también la frecuencia cardiaca y el cortisol salival. Resultados. Los niveles de ansiedad de rasgo y estado, así como las variables fisiológicas, no mostraron cambios significativos. Sin embargo, se encontró un aumento estadísticamente significativo en el nivel de compasión y una tendencia a aumentar los niveles de atención plena. Conclusiones. Se sugiere que en futuras investigaciones se aumente el número de sesiones de práctica guiada y se empleen grupos de comparación. De igual manera, se recomienda la evaluación del desempeño musical de los participantes.

Background Medicinal cannabis (MC) is an increasingly utilized treatment option for various refractory diseases. While robust clinical evidence supporting MC efficacy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is lacking, many IBD patients report using MC to obtain symptomatic relief. Understanding this use and associated outcomes may help inform future clinical trials. Methods A cross-sectional anonymous online survey was conducted involving Australians with IBD. It examined attitudes and experiences with MC in relation to IBD management. The survey included validated sub-questionnaires assessing quality of life, medication adherence, IBD severity, and functional impairment. Results A total of 838 responses were obtained. The objective of this literature review is to analyze the extent to which engaging in PA during the COVID-19 pandemic impacts psychological health in the adult population. The literature was searched in all databases from the EBSCOhost Research Database—MEDLINE, APA PsycArticles, between others—published between 1 January 2019 and 15 July 2020. Loneliness—perceived social isolation—is defined as a discrepancy between existing social relationships and desired quality of relationships. Whereas most research has focused on existing relationships, we consider the standards against which people compare them. Participants who made downward social or temporal comparisons that depicted their contact with others as better (compared to other people’s contact or compared to the past) reported less loneliness than participants who made upward comparisons that depicted their contact with others as worse (Study 1–3). Extending these causal results, in a survey of British adults, upward social comparisons predicted current loneliness, even when controlling for loneliness at a previous point in time (Study 4). O presente artigo teve como objetivo comparar a imagem corporal e satisfação sexual em mulheres obesas e mulheres submetidas a cirurgia bariátrica há pelo menos 8 meses; verificar qual a autopercepção de ambas as amostras em relação ao peso; verificar se há correlação entre a satisfação com a imagem corporal e a satisfação sexual entre os dois grupos. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate sleep impairment, symptoms of anxiety and depression, and associations with sleep characteristics of sleep in female HIV/AIDS patients. METHOD: 30 female patients with HIV/AIDS were evaluated along with 30 female controls with a mean age of 35.4 years in the study group and 33.1 years in the control group, with: a) the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index; b) the Beck Anxiety Inventory; c) the Beck Depression Inventory. RESULTS: Sleep quality was more impaired in AIDS patients than in those with HIV+ or in controls. The AIDS patients showed more symptoms of anxiety. There were associations of sleep impairment with anxiety in HIV+ patients; whereas in AIDS patients associations were found between sleep impairment and depression. CONCLUSION: There was sleep quality in the presence of symptoms of anxiety and depression. In HIV+ patients, sleep impairment was associated with anxiety, while in AIDS patients sleep impairment was associated with depression.
