Surgery for Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer

In the time of rapidly emerging data on the feasibility of surgery in locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC), this specialized edition of Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology seeks to summarize and critically evaluate the existing data on the topic and to provide a guidance for best clinical practice for surgical resection and oncologic treatment of LAPC.

Global GI Malignancies

The increasing issues of globalization and caring for our populations have created a unified effort of all healthcare stakeholders worldwide. Population health has emerged to integrate public health, health policy, quality and safety, as well as chronic care management under one roof. Although the concept of population health has been around for generations, a measurable definition of “population-level health outcomes” with the health factors and policy/interventions that influence it was not reported until Kindig and Stoddart in 2003. This focus series of global GI malignancies from a population health management perspective is intended to provide a broad overview of relevant topics.

Current Strategies in Colon Cancer Management

Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer in females and the third most common in males worldwide. In this issue of Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology, we will focus on the surgical management of colon cancer and give an update on its latest developments.

Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

The incidence of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) continues to increase, prompting renewed interest in the pathophysiology and treatment of this disease. This focused series comprehensively reviews the pathophysiology, tumorigenesis, available clinical trials, and approved therapies for patients with pNETs. A deeper understanding of these factors is necessary to enhance our efforts to improve patient improve patient outcomes through the application of more innovative treatment sequencing.
